97 James Suckling
(6/14/2017) "Beautiful clarity and brilliance define this with blackberry, currant and floral aromas that follow through to a full body, glorious fruit and remarkable tension. Velvety and opulent. Needs four to five years to come around. Try in 2022."

Chappellet "Pritchard Hill" Napa Valley Cabernet Sauvignon 2013

97 James Suckling
98+ Wine Advocate
(12/21/2015) "The flagship wine, the 2013 Cabernet Sauvignon Pritchard Hill is a blend of 83% Cabernet Sauvignon, 8% Malbec, 6% Cabernet Franc and the rest Petit Verdot aged 22 months in 100% new French oak. This is a 40- to 50-year wine and simply compelling. Inky bluish/purple with a stunning nose of white flowers, crushed rock, blueberry, black raspberry and cassis, this is a great, great effort in this vintage, which is not that surprising, but this youthful wine still seems in its infancy and certainly has huge upside to it. It's very deep and full-bodied, but still coiled very tight and restrained, this should turn out to be a tour de force and a great offering in 2013. Don't touch it for another 5-7 years."

Domaine de Jaugaret St.-Julien Bordeaux 2010

New low price! Regular Vin Chicago retail on this Magnum - $219.99!
97 Our Score
(06/2015) In our tasting at Neal Rosenthal's warehouse in New York, the 2010 Jaugaret fully coats the sides of the glass with a beautiful, opaque black/purple/ruby color. The nose is quickly filled with classic, appealing aromas of red Bordeaux including blackberry, black and red currants, plum and black cherry. Also immediately noticeable is an absence of intense new oak flavors. Young "high-end" Bordeaux, especially the classified growths, are typically chock full of toast, vanilla and cedar flavors. Not here! Instead, a pure mineral and organic earth tone comes through, as do secondary notes of rocky/dusty earth, smoke, tomato leaf, dark chocolate and bell pepper. The complexity of flavors is supported by a structure that is both elegant and powerful. Being a young wine, the tannins are intense. This is old school Bordeaux! As the wine finishes, we realize it is too young to drink now. Ideally, the 2010 Jaugaret sits another 10 years before drinking. That said, we sampled a second bottle of this wine more recently in Chicago and on day three after being opened the wine was beginning to soften and reveal a glimmer of its ultimate potential. If you do plan on opening a bottle within the next year, we recommend decanting for an extended amount of time and pairing with a hearty meal.

Clos i Terrasses "Clos Erasmus" Priorat 2014

97 Wine Advocate
(10/28/2016) "There is a little more Syrah in the blend of the 2014 Clos Erasmus, where it reached around 30% to complement the majority of Garnacha. As is the norm, the wine matured for some 18 months before bottling, with most of the volume in French oak barrels, 40% of which are renewed each vintage, but there are also one or two amphorae. I tasted it next to the 2013 and as the 2013 required so much attention, it took some time to get to the 2014. It showed a bit shy at first, but when I finally came back to it, I found that it had really blossomed with a mixture of violets, ground, smoky meat and black raspberries. The slight increase in Syrah was noticeable, but it somehow also seemed to increase the voice of the slate in the bottle. The palate is medium to full-bodied with wonderful balance and elegance combined with inner strength. This is simply terrific. 3,000 bottles were filled at the end of May 2016. Drink Date: 2016 - 2025."

Bodegas Valdespino "Cardenal" Palo Cortado VORS NV

99 Wine Advocate
(8/2013) ?The NV Palo Cortado Cardenal VORS, like the whole VORS collection from Valdespino is outstanding. It is fed from the solera of the Palo Cortado C.P. where the Palomino grapes come from the Macharnudo Alto vineyard, fermented in American oak botas. It's 22% alcohol and has nine grams of (undetectable) residual sugar which makes it very drinkable. It's a monumental wine of dark mahogany color with a green edge, a complex, ever-changing, concentrated, clean and delineated nose of spices, dark chocolate, Cuban cigar and balsamic notes of incense, and a sharp, saline palate. It is highly concentrated, powerful and clean, with an eternal, lingering aftertaste. Deciding between Coliseo and Cardenal might be splitting hairs, and as much as I love Coliseo, I felt Cardenal was just one notch above. At the quality helm of Palo Cortado. Drink 2013-2025. ?

Brovia "Rocche di Castiglione" Barolo 2011

95 Our Score
94 Vinous, Antonio Galloni
(3/2015) "The 2011 Barolo Rocche di Castiglione is sweet, floral and wonderfully expressive, all Brovia signatures. Silky tannins provide the backdrop as this sensual, polished Barolo shows off its class. Perfumed notes are woven throughout, but it is the wine's exceptional textural finesse that stands out most. Hints of hard candy, mint, cinnamon and succulent red cherries add the final shades of dimension. In 2011, the Rocche stands out for its total sense of class. Drinking window 2018 - 2036."

Caymus "Special Selection" Napa Valley Cabernet Sauvignon 2013

Wine #44 - Wine Spectator's Top 100 Wines of 2016!
95 Wine Spectator
(10/15/2016) "This zeroes in on a rich, hedonistic core of wild berry, blackberry, plum and currant flavors, with a graceful, elegant mouthfeel and supple, caressing tannins. The long and powerful yet refined aftertaste keeps reverberating fruit generosity while maintaining Cabernet's strength of personality. Drink now through 2030."

Roberto Voerzio "La Serra" Barolo 2008

95 Wine Spectator
96+ Vinous, Antonio Galloni
(4/2012). "The 2008 Barolo La Serra emerges from the glass with dark red fruit, tar, smoke, licorice, spices and new leather. Today the 2008 comes across as surprisingly dark and masculine. The high-toned floral notes that are typical of this site have been replaced by a much darker, brooding register filled with tar, incense and black fruit notes. The wine freshens up beautifully with time in the glass as the aromatics become a bit more expressive. Voerzio's 2008 La Serra is a huge and hugely promising wine. The firm tannins argue for at least a few more years in bottle. A hint of rose petal lingers on the intese finish."

Snowden "Brothers Vineyard" Napa Valley Cabernet Sauvignon 2013

95 Wine Advocate
94+ Vinous, Antonio Galloni
(9/2015) "Explosive and powerful to the core, the 2013 Cabernet Sauvignon The Brothers presents dark tonalities of fruit along with distinctly savory and mineral notes. Grilled herbs, smoke, lavender and pencil shavings add nuance. The Brothers is dark, powerful and brooding in style, not to mention more structured than the Ricos Cabernet, Accordingly, it needs a few years to fully come together. Snowden fans will see a few changes in the lineup this year. The flagship Reserve Cabernet has been replaced by series of single-vineyard wines from Snowden's estate vineyard, which sits on the border of the St. Helena and Rutherford AVAs, adjacent to Hall's Sacrashe vineyard (from which Sloan was carved out). Diana Snowden is also releasing small amounts of Cabernet Franc and Petit Verdot bottlings. As usual, I caught up with Diana Snowden between her harvests in Napa Valley and Burgundy, where she runs Domaine Dujac with her husband Jeremy Seysses. The 2013 here are juicy and forward, with a bit more early appeal than most wines of the vintage."

Il Marroneto "Madonna Delle Grazie" Brunello di Montalcino 2012

99 Wine Advocate
(2/28/2017) "Alessandro Mori is the Sangiovese whisperer: l'uomo che sussurrava il Sangiovese. I need to say it in Italian, too, because it sounds so beautiful. The 2012 Brunello di Montalcino Madonna Delle Grazie is a phenomenal wine that speaks so highly of the potential of the mighty Tuscan grape, Sangiovese. This wine mirrors all the greatest attributes of the 100-point 2010 edition. Most significantly, it delivers profound purity and a most authentic varietal voice that sings both the high notes and the bass-baritone. First you have the wine's dark ruby appearance that is brilliant and vibrant but beautifully concentrated. Then you have the multilayered bouquet that skillfully presents ethereal notes of wild berry and grilled herb on first nose. Those lighter tones lift gracefully to reveal substantial aromas of dark fruit, spice, tobacco and white truffle that form the wine's lasting aromatic core. The mouthfeel is feather light in texture, but don't underestimate its power or persistence. This is a true gem of Italian enology and sadly only 6,200 bottles were made. Drink Date: 2018 - 2040."
