Freemark Abbey "Bosche Vineyard" Napa Valley Cabernet Sauvignon 2012

97 Wine Advocate
(12/2015) "The classic 2012 Cabernet Sauvignon Bosche Vineyard is 90.1% Cabernet Sauvignon and the rest 9.9% Merlot, aged 26 months in oak. This is one of the iconic wines of Napa, and one of the great vineyard sources coming from Rutherford on foothill bench soils at the base of the Mayacamas Mountains. This is one of the finest examples of this wine I've ever tasted, and there have been many. The wine shows plenty of loamy soil notes intermixed with blackberry, cassis, cedar wood and spice box. It's full-bodied, shows terrific intensity, a multi-dimensional mouthfeel and moderate tannin in the finish. It still needs cellar time - and 5-6 years should bring forth plenty of magic, but this wine will also last 30-40 years."

Textbook "Mise en Place" Napa Valley Cabernet Sauvignon 2012

New low price! Regular Vin Chicago retail on this Magnum - $127.99!
95 Wine Advocate
(10/2014) "The inky/purple-colored 2012 Cabernet Sauvignon Mise en Place comes from the rocky east side of Oakville, and spent 24 months in French oak. Playing it closer to the vest than its siblings, with coaxing, it reveals some extraordinarily ripe, rich blueberry and blackberry fruit intermixed with hints of charcoal, scorched earth and wet rocks. It has tremendous upside potential, but at present it is the least flattering of the Textbook Cabernets. Full-bodied and powerful, it should turn out to be a beauty, but buyers should plan on deferring their gratification for 2-4 years. Watch the magic unfold over the following two decades. Drink: 2016 - 2036."

Vina Sena Valle del Aconcagua Red Blend 2013

96 Wine Advocate
99 James Suckling
(7/2015) "Superb aromas of black currants, rose petal and mint. Lavender and stones too. Full body with incredible fruit density. Complex, yet it's agile and bright. Tannins are perfectly polished. It builds on the palate and shows the structure of a first growth Bordeaux but remains so Chilean. A blend of 58% cabernet sauvignon, 15% carmenere, 12% malbec, 10% merlot, and 5% petit verdot. From biodynamically grown grapes. This is a joy to taste now but it will show itself in 2019. Even better than the amazing 2012."

Egly Ouriet "Vieillissement Prolonge" Grand Cru Champagne NV 1 1

95 Vinous, Antonio Galloni
(11/2014) "The NV V.P. Grand Cru emerges from parcels in Ambonnay, Bouzy and Verzenay, and sees a total of 72 months on its lees. Intense fruit, structure and minerality meld together in a super-expressive, vertical Champagne bursting with pure personality and class. All the elements come together in the glass. Effortless yet powerful, the V.P. is simply striking. Hints of honey, orange peel, spices, mint and chamomile add nuance. The V.P. succeeds in blending mature, slightly oxidative notes with tension and acidity, a rare combination that lifts this wine into the upper echelon. Disgorged July 2013."

Egly Ouriet "V.P." Grand Cru Champagne NV 2 2

95 Vinous, Antonio Galloni
(8/2016) "One of the many highlights in this range, the NV Extra Brut Grand Cru V.P. (Vieillissement Prolongé) bristles with energy from start to finish. Two important vintages (2008 and 2006) come together in this release. Lemon oil, chamomile, pear, hazelnut, acacia and wild flowers open up in the glass, but it is the wine's interplay of power and freshness that is totally beguiling. There is so much to like. The current release is 70% Pinot Noir and 30% Chardonnay, 60% 2008 and 40% 2006. Disgorged November, 2015. Dosage is 2 grams per liter."

Bacio Divino Napa Valley Proprietary Red 2013

95 Wine Advocate
(10/2015) "One of their best efforts ever (and that says something, given how many fine wines have been produced under the Bacio Divino moniker), the 2013 Bacio Divino, which is a blend of Cabernet Sauvignon (sourced from four different vineyards) and Sangiovese (from the Benessere Vineyard in St. Helena), is a beautifully complex wine with big, sexy notes of new saddle leather, blackberry and blackcurrant fruit, silky tannins, a full-bodied, voluptuous texture and lots of personality and glycerin-filled fruit. This is a beauty to drink over the next 7-8 years"

Chateau La Gaffeliere St Emilion Bordeaux 2009

95+ Wine Advocate
"An absolutely spectacular effort, the 2009 is one of the all-time great La Gaffelieres produced. One would have to go back to the 2005, 1947 or 1961 to find this level of quality from this ancient, historic vineyard planted adjacent to the walls of St.-Emilion, on the Cote Pavie. Dating back to the 1400s, this estate has been owned for over three centuries by the Malet-Roquefort family. Composed of 80% Merlot and 20% Cabernet Franc (in the past it was two-thirds Merlot and the rest split between Cabernet Sauvignon and Cabernet Franc), the 2009 reveals compelling elegance, tremendous intensity and opulence and more viscosity than one normally sees. Lots of kirsch, licorice, incense, truffle, asphalt, blackberry and cassis notes dominate the aromatics and flavors of this full-bodied, viscous, fabulously pure, flamboyant St.-Emilion. Drinking it now may be considered infanticide by some consumers, but it is already attractive, and should last for 3-4 decades."

Quinta do Vale Meao Douro 2013

97 Wine Enthusiast
95 Wine Advocate
(3/2016) "The 2013 Tinto (the Estate, flagship red here) is a blend of 58% Touriga Nacional, 35% Touriga Franca, 5% Tinta Barroca and 2% Tinta Roriz, aged for 18 months in 225-liter Allier barriques (80% new and 20% second use). It comes in at 14% alcohol. Adding a layer of concentration and more power to the Meandro, its sibling reviewed this issue, this has a wonderfully elegant feel, while adding some surprising pop and power to the gripping and lingering finish. Let's not forget the part where it provides wonderful intensity of flavor on the finish. It's just delicious this year, without ever being candied, sweet or obvious. Subtle at times, yet intense and persistent, this perfectly balanced beauty should hold well. It has some things to prove in the cellar, but it should develop well. As time goes on, I'm expanding drinking windows, but let's remain a little on the conservative side. Sourced from vines averaging 45 years in age, there were 2,050 cases produced. Drink 2017-2035."

Peirson Meyer Napa Valley Cabernet Sauvignon 2013

95+ Wine Advocate
(10/2015) "The 2013 Cabernet Sauvignon is aged in 75% new French oak for 20 months prior to bottling. This wine, which is 100% Cabernet Sauvignon, shows the classic blackberry and creme de cassis nose, with licorice, graphite and underbrush. Mostly from the Kenefick Ranch in Northern Napa, it has a rather viscous, thick, juicy mouthfeel, but with great acidity, purity and overall balance. This is another winner, as are virtually all the wines being made by Peirson Meyer. Drink this Cabernet over the next 15+ years."
