Sojourn "Durell Vineyard" Sonoma Coast Chardonnay 2013

95 Wine Advocate
(12/2014) "A steely, mineral-dominated white, the 2013 Chardonnay Durell Vineyard was made from the Old Wente clone and was aged in 40% new oak. A pebbly, rocky minerality along with notes of white peaches, honeysuckle and a subtle touch of roasted nuts emerge from this full-bodied, complex, impressively endowed, multilayerd wine. It is capable of evolving for 5-6 years."

Clos i Terrasses "Laurel" Priorat 2014

95 Wine Advocate
(10/28/2016) "I was really blown away by the aromatics of the 2014 Laurel. As soon as I put my nose in the glass I was transported to the vineyards of Gratallops, with a blast of wild herbs and flowers followed by a stream of smoked meat, juicy red currants and raspberries. It is mostly Garnacha but with some 10% each Syrah and Cabernet Sauvignon. The grapes are cooled down during the night and in the morning some are destemmed, and some others are left with the stems on and fermented mostly with indigenous yeasts. The élevage here is one year in a combination of used oak barrels, oak vats, cement and amphorae. They have increased the volume of wine being raised in amphorae in this 2014. This might very well be the finest Laurel to date. Simply stunning!"

Hartford Court "Highwire Vineyard" Russian River Valley Old Vine Zinfandel 2012

New low price! Regular Vin Chicago retail - $53.99!
95 Wine Advocate
(12/2013) "The 2012 Zinfandel Highwire Vineyard, a site that is half head-pruned and half on a high wire trellising system, sees more new French oak (52%), and achieved 15.5% natural alcohol. A dense ruby/purple color is followed by a rich, full-bodied wine displaying lots of boysenberry, black raspberry and cherry fruit intermixed with hints of incense and Asian spice. Supple tannins and a big, pedal-to-the-metal, juicy, succulent style suggest it will drink well for 5-6 years. "

Varner "Amphitheater Block" Spring Ridge Vineyard Chardonnay 2013

95 Vinous, Antonio Galloni
(7/2015) "Varner's Chardonnay Amphitheater Block is rich, ample and super-expressive. Lemon peel, almonds, chamomile, earthiness, dried apricot and sage meld together effortlessly. The 2013 Amphitheater is a classic Varner Chardonnay built on phenolic intensity and plenty of savory/floral notes that add nuance, while the fruit is pushed a bit into the background. Drink 2016-2023."

Terrazas de los Andes "Las Compuertas" Lujan de Cuyo Mendoza Malbec 2011

97 James Suckling
(6/11/2014) "There is a clarity and purity to this malbec with dark berries, pepper, rose petal, violets. Even cloves. Full body, with wonderfully fine tannins and a polished and beautiful finish. It lasts for minutes on the finish. Such precision. Better in 2016 but so gorgeous now."

K Vintners "Morrison Lane" Walla Walla Valley Syrah 2013

95 Wine Advocate
(6/2016) "Another wine that overachieves is the 2013 Syrah Morrison Lane. Easily the best vintage of this cuvee to date, it has a killer bouquet of olive tapenade, grounded, peppered meats and a core of darker fruits. Medium to full-bodied, seamless, elegant and with fine tannin, it's terrific and will drink nicely for 10-15 years."

The Hilt "The Vanguard" Sta. Rita Hills Pinot Noir 2013

New low price! Regular Vin Chicago retail - $49.99!
95 Vinous, Antonio Galloni
(8/2015) "Dark, pliant and seductive, the 2013 Pinot Noir Vanguard wraps around the palate with striking depth and pure textural richness. Smoke, tobacco, licorice and spices inform the super-expressive aromatics. With time in the glass, the 2013 shows a deeper, darker register. Drink this bold, racy Pinot over the next decade or so. The 2013 is 100% Sanford & Benedict, done with fully destemmed fruit and aged in 40% new oak."

Descendientes des Palacios "Villa de Corullon" Bierzo 2012

95 Wine Advocate
(1/2015) "The 2012 Corullón is very fresh and aromatic, with citric aromas, very subtle, like an amplified version of Pétalos, more fragrant and fresh than Moncerbal, really open and accessible, changing by the minute, with faint notes of underbrush and captivating hints of bitter almonds and fennel. The palate is medium-bodied, very accessible, silky, with velvety tannins and good acidity. This is approachable now, but with it's balance, freshness and weight, it should age effortlessly and with class. I'm also tempted to say that this is the best Corullón to date. Drink: 2015 - 2022."

Forman Napa Valley Chardonnay 2014

95 Vinous, Antonio Galloni
(9/2015) "Ric Forman's 2014 Chardonnay is a real stunner. A bit riper than it usually is, the 2014 possesses superb richness and intensity, but tapered with the vibrant, blocked-malo style that Forman pioneered in Napa Valley. The 2014 is a wine of push and pull that engages all the senses with superb textural balance and tons of nuance. Lemon oil, orchard fruit, almonds and dried flowers open up, but above all else the 2014 is a wine of feel. The balance here is just unreal."

(12/30/2016) "The 2015 Hunting Hill Chardonnay displays a youthful restraint, yet nonetheless delivers an exciting array of stone fruit, pink grapefruit, ginger and marzipan notes with subtle hints of orange blossoms, crushed stones and lightly buttered toast. Medium bodied and tightly woven, is has a lively backbone supportting the generous flavor layers, finishing with great length and depth. As usual - just gorgeous! Drink Date 2017 - 2027."
