Phillip Togni Spring Mountain Napa Valley Cabernet Sauvignon 2014

94+ Wine Advocate
97 Vinous, Antonio Galloni
(10/2016) "Togni's 2014 Cabernet Sauvignon Estate is quite dark and powerful, but also very much medium in body. Graphite, smoke, savory herbs, mint, leather and a core of inky dark red and purplish fruit infuse this deep, beautifully layered Cabernet Sauvignon. The 2014 is a wine built on energy and aromatics that won't hit its stride until at least age ten. Drinking window: 2024 - 2039."

Tenuta di Valgiano Colline Lucchesi 2013

This organic and biodynamic foot-trodden bottling has been Tre Bicchieri for the last 11 straight vintages! Only 833 cases produced.
93 Vinous, Antonio Galloni
(11/2016) "The 2013 Tenuta di Valgiano is gorgeous, although it will need time in bottle to be at its most expressive. Dark raspberry, pomegranate, spice, mint and blood orange give the 2013 much of its exotic personality. The 2013 is a distinctly mid-weight Tenuta with bright acidity and considerable overall tension. I can't wait to see how the 2013 develops in bottle, as it has quite a bit of energy lying in reserve. Drink 2018 - 2033."

Tenuta Degli Sforza "Marchesano" Colli d'Imola Cabernet Sauvignon Riserva 2011

This Cabernet Sauvignon made our jaws drop. Cab lovers, do not miss.
94 Our Score
(4/2017) This is as good of a $50 Cabernet Sauvignon as you will ever find. Interestingly, it's not from Napa Valley but from a very small, eccentric producer in Emilia Romagna. The hand-picked grapes, some of which were allowed to dry by over-ripening on the vine, were vinified and then aged for 24 months in small, fine oak and another year in bottle before release. The resulting wine has an incredible nose that is intense, complex and loaded with wood spice, leather and dark berry aromas. The palate is oozing with dark berries, oak and spice with gripping tannins that smooth out nicely on the oh-so-long finish. Complex and layered with serious depth of flavor, this outstanding Cabernet is done just the way we like 'em at Vin Chicago.

Chateau La Peyre "R" Saint Estephe Rouge 2010

We're down to our last ten cases of this classic, under-the-radar, Neal Rosenthal-imported beauty!
94 Our Score
(10/2016) The wine is a 50/50 blend of Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot. While it sees a small percentage of new oak, most of the juice is raised in older barrels - in keeping with the estate's traditional philosophy of limited human intervention during the winemaking process. Classic Bordeaux flavors of cassis, blackberry and plum are supported by subtle red floral nuances along with black pepper, rosemary, tobacco and cedar. The complexity of flavor and integration of tannin and structure are top flight here. Neighboring properties, like the 100-point, Super-Second Chateau Montrose, sell for well over $200 this vintage!

Deovlet Santa Barbara County Pinot Noir 2014

92-93 Our Score
92 Wine Advocate
(8/30/2016) "Black cherries, graphite, underbrush, spring flowers and spice show in the ruby colored 2014 Pinot Noir Santa Barbara County, which is a mix of Bien Nacido, Sebastiano and La Encantada Vineyards. Medium-bodied, pure and balanced, with fine tannin and a silky texture, drink this high quality beauty over the coming 7-8 years. The elevage here is 15 months in 25% new French oak."

Seghesio "Cortina" Dry Creek Valley Zinfandel 2013

94 Wine Advocate
94 Wine Spectator
(12/15/2015) "This captures such a distinct sense of place it almost smells like Dry Creek Valley. Briary raspberry and smoky cinnamon aromas lead to complex, layered flavors of dried sage, licorice and dark cherry. Tannins sneak in on the finish. Drink now through 2024. 3,174 cases made."

Franco Molino "Rocche dell'Annunziata" Riserva Barolo 2010

Single-vineyard Barolo Riserva for $35? Yep, and it is outstanding!
93-94 Our Score
(4/2017) The Rocche dell'Annunziata vineyard is one of Barolo's most prized vineyards and this 2010 Riserva is from one of the all-time great Barolo vintages. The nose is quite complex with a very floral violet and rose petal aroma along with red berries, licorice and forest floor. Very rich on the palate with gripping tannins that slowly melt away to a silky, velvet-like mouthfeel. Give it some time in the cellar and you will be well rewarded.

Guillaume Gonet "Bel Ami" Chateauneuf du Pape Rouge 2015

Sourced from the La Crau vineyard of Vieux Telegraphe fame!
91 Our Score
(4/2017) The fruit for this wine was sourced entirely from the La Crau vineyard, made famous by the great Domaine du Vieux Télégraphe. This delicious red blends almost all of the approved Châteauneuf varieties, including Grenache (50%), Syrah (30%), Mourvedre (10%) plus small amount of Cinsault, Terret Noir, Counoise, Muscardin, Clairette, Roussanne and Bourboulenc! Flavors of spicy wild red berries are complemented by dried herb and red earth tones. The wine is full, giving and accessible now. 2015 is an excellent vintage for Chateauneuf-du-Pape and this one is a real winner.
