Caymus "Special Selection" Napa Valley Cabernet Sauvignon 2013

Wine #44 - Wine Spectator's Top 100 Wines of 2016!
95 Wine Spectator
(10/15/2016) "This zeroes in on a rich, hedonistic core of wild berry, blackberry, plum and currant flavors, with a graceful, elegant mouthfeel and supple, caressing tannins. The long and powerful yet refined aftertaste keeps reverberating fruit generosity while maintaining Cabernet's strength of personality. Drink now through 2030."

Roberto Voerzio "La Serra" Barolo 2008

95 Wine Spectator
96+ Vinous, Antonio Galloni
(4/2012). "The 2008 Barolo La Serra emerges from the glass with dark red fruit, tar, smoke, licorice, spices and new leather. Today the 2008 comes across as surprisingly dark and masculine. The high-toned floral notes that are typical of this site have been replaced by a much darker, brooding register filled with tar, incense and black fruit notes. The wine freshens up beautifully with time in the glass as the aromatics become a bit more expressive. Voerzio's 2008 La Serra is a huge and hugely promising wine. The firm tannins argue for at least a few more years in bottle. A hint of rose petal lingers on the intese finish."

Quintessa Rutherford Napa Valley Proprietary Red 2012

96 James Suckling
94 Wine Advocate
(10/2014) "This beautiful winery adjacent to the Silverado Trail south of St. Helena boasts Michel Rolland as its consulting winemaker and he is undeniably responsible for increased quality. The outstanding 2012 Proprietary Red Blend Quintessa is composed of Bordeaux varietals dominated by Cabernet Sauvignon followed by Merlot, Cabernet Franc, Petit Verdot and Carmenère. One of the strongest efforts to date from this winery, it possesses a deep ruby/purple color as well as abundant aromas of sweet white chocolate, acacia flowers, and black and red fruits, full-bodied opulence, velvety tannins, and enough acidity to provide freshness and focus. It can be drunk now or cellared for another 10-15+ years."

Brovia "Rocche di Castiglione" Barolo 2011

95 Our Score
94 Vinous, Antonio Galloni
(3/2015) "The 2011 Barolo Rocche di Castiglione is sweet, floral and wonderfully expressive, all Brovia signatures. Silky tannins provide the backdrop as this sensual, polished Barolo shows off its class. Perfumed notes are woven throughout, but it is the wine's exceptional textural finesse that stands out most. Hints of hard candy, mint, cinnamon and succulent red cherries add the final shades of dimension. In 2011, the Rocche stands out for its total sense of class. Drinking window 2018 - 2036."

Chateau Bellevue Mondotte St. Emillion 2006

95+ Wine Advocate
(2/2009) "This tiny, 5-acre vineyard with nearly 50-year old vines produces only 4,000 bottles from a blend of 90% Merlot and 10% Cabernet Franc. The broodingly tannic, backward 2006 is remarkably concentrated, pure, and deep. It is an amazing tour de force in winemaking, but like nearly all the Perse 2006s, it is a massively built vin de garde with no compromises meant for serious connoisseurs and long-term cellaring. Forget it for 7-8 years, and drink it over the following 25-30."

Spottswoode Napa Valley Cabernet Sauvignon 2012

98 James Suckling
95 Vinous, Antonio Galloni
96+ Wine Advocate
(10/2014) "The opaque purple-hued 2012 Cabernet Sauvignon exhibits a glorious bouquet of crème de cassis, spring flowers, a Pauillac-like lead pencil note, and background new oak. The overall impression is one of restraint combined with richness. This full-bodied effort possesses good acidity and ripe tannin. It has been crafted for the long-term. The hallmarks of great Spottswoode wines are their purity and elegance combined with serious power. The 2012 has that in abundance. This youthful, reserved Cabernet will benefit from 3-5 years of cellaring, and will keep for two decades or more."

Domaine Marcel Lapierre Morgon 2015 3.0 LT

93 Wine Advocate
(8/30/2016) "The 2015 Morgon has a clean and vibrant bouquet with perfumed dark cherries, redcurrant, a touch of gravel and touches of rose petal. The palate is nicely structured, brimming over with energy. The acidity is very well judged, quite sturdy as Morgon should be, no hard edges here but just the background "hum" of tension from start to finish. This is just a superb Morgon from Mathieu and Camille Lapierre."

Snowden "Brothers Vineyard" Napa Valley Cabernet Sauvignon 2013

95 Wine Advocate
94+ Vinous, Antonio Galloni
(9/2015) "Explosive and powerful to the core, the 2013 Cabernet Sauvignon The Brothers presents dark tonalities of fruit along with distinctly savory and mineral notes. Grilled herbs, smoke, lavender and pencil shavings add nuance. The Brothers is dark, powerful and brooding in style, not to mention more structured than the Ricos Cabernet, Accordingly, it needs a few years to fully come together. Snowden fans will see a few changes in the lineup this year. The flagship Reserve Cabernet has been replaced by series of single-vineyard wines from Snowden's estate vineyard, which sits on the border of the St. Helena and Rutherford AVAs, adjacent to Hall's Sacrashe vineyard (from which Sloan was carved out). Diana Snowden is also releasing small amounts of Cabernet Franc and Petit Verdot bottlings. As usual, I caught up with Diana Snowden between her harvests in Napa Valley and Burgundy, where she runs Domaine Dujac with her husband Jeremy Seysses. The 2013 here are juicy and forward, with a bit more early appeal than most wines of the vintage."

Orin Swift "Papillon" Napa Valley Red 2012

Papillon is Dave Phinney's Bordeaux blend. Over the past few vintages, it has been one of the quickest Orin Swift wines to sell out. The 2010 and 2011 vintages earned Wine Spectator scores of 92 and 93 points. The Wine Advocate just released the following 93 point review for the 2012!
93 Wine Advocate
(12/2014) "The 2012 Proprietary Red Papillon is composed of Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, Petit Verdot, Malbec and Cabernet Franc. Another big-time winner, it was sourced from multiple AVAs, including Oakville, St. Helena, Howell Mountain and Rutherford. Gorgeous aromas of white chocolate, blackberries, blackcurrants, blue fruits and toasty oak are followed by a full-bodied, layered wine that builds incrementally. The tannins are sweet and well-integrated, and the acidity is sufficient for definition. It is a savory, hedonistic as well as intellectually pleasing wine to enjoy over the next decade or more."

Domaine Serene "Evenstad Reserve" Willamette Valley Pinot Noir 2012

92 Vinous, Josh Raynolds
94 Wine Enthusiast
93 Wine Spectator
93 James Suckling
93 Wine Advocate
(3/2015) "The 2012 Pinot Noir Evenstad Reserve was picked from late summer after one of the driest on record. There was better heat accumulation, according to Erik Kramer, but he does not regard it has a hot vintage. It was a low yield at around 1.7 and 1.8 tons per acre, partly due to a preflowering cluster removal. The skin-to-pulp ratio was very high and it was raised in 65% new oak over 16 months. It has a deep garnet color. The bouquet is in stark contrast with strawberry pastille and raspberry coulis, hints of iodine developing in the glass. The palate is medium-bodied with fleshy ripe red berry fruit interlaced with sea salt and white pepper. There is an undercurrent of gaminess to this 2012 that lends intrigue toward the finish that gently grips the mouth. Not as opulent as other 2012 Pinot Noirs that I have tasted, but clearly very well crafted by winemaker Erik Kramer and with a prosperous future ahead. Drink: 2016-2028."
