Vina Zorzal "Malayeto" Navarra Garnacha 2013

Blowout pricing on this single-vineyard bottling from Zorzal!
91 Decanter
(9/8/2016) "A splendid Garnacha of depth and complexity, showing ripe plums, black cherries, liquorice and earthy notes plus hints of balsamic. From very old vines in a cooler, high-altitude area, it is focused on the palate and supported by grainy fine tannins, fresh acidity and a long length. Great value!"

Bodegas Valdespino "Inocente" Fino Sherry NV

93 Decanter
94 Wine Advocate
(8/2013) "I've often called Valdespino 'the Romanee-Conti of Jerez.' Well, there, I've said it. To me they represent quality and tradition at the very top of the Sherry hierarchy. The NV Fino Inocente must be one of the few wines in Jerez that is still fermented in 600-liter American oak botas, which is an incredible amount of work compared with fermenting tens of thousands of kilos of grapes (or even more) in a big stainless steel tank. This method was the norm of yesteryear, but is so labor intense that it was discontinued in most wineries, and gives a big diversity of wines, as each barrel has its own character, which contributes to the complexity of the blend. Furthermore, the bottled wine is on average 8 to 10 years old. One other thing that makes it apart from other Finos is that the grapes are exclusively from the high part of the Macharnudo vineyard, so this is a single-vineyard Fino. The nose is very complex, showing the effect of the long lees contact: chalk, dried hay, aromatic herbs and salty almonds. The palate is full, but at the same time elegant and balanced, powerful and fine, with the texture of a Meursault rather than a Puligny. A very complex wine, that manages to be both powerful and elegant. Inocente is great value for money. Drink 2013-2016."

Crapula "Cr Gold" Jumilla 2013

92 Wine Enthusiast
(11/1/2015) "Powerful blackberry aromas are matched by creamy oak. This Monastrell-Syrah blend is a driller, with strong tannins and more than enough body weight. Oaky flavors of dark-berry fruits and black plums finish with vanilla and lactic notes. This is rock solid from head to toe; drink through 2021."

Bodegas Bula "Bula" Montsant 2013

90+ Our Score
90 Vinous, Antonio Galloni
(9/2014) "(50% carinena, 30% garnacha and 20% syrah; aged for four months in French and American oak): Brilliant ruby. Bright red fruits on the nose, with peppery spices and a floral pastille element adding nuance. Deep and appealingly sweet but energetic too, with good energy and lift to its raspberry and bitter cherry flavors. Silky tannins build slowly on the long, pliant finish, with the floral note echoing."

Espelt "Old Vines" Emporda Garnacha 2015

90 Our Score
(3/2017) Our favorite value Garnacha from the northeast corner of Spain is back and it is super delicious! Purply-pink in the glass, the vines for this wine average 95 years in age and are certified organic. Very fresh with a lifted grapey beginning, the wine is deeper than initially suspected, with dark red berry fruit and medium tannins. Winemaker Anna Espelt has delivered another outrageous value.

(11/1/2015) "A terrific value, the 2013 Cuvée Tradition shows the sort of concentration and ripeness you'd only expect to find in much pricier bottlings. Black olive, cassis and cured meat notes deliver ample complexity, and the wine finishes long, with supple tannins. Best Buy."
