(8/1/2014) "White peach aromas give a warm feeling. It has fine acidity as well, bursting with fruit and with just a touch of toast. It's ready to drink but will benefit by holding until 2015 in bottle."

Cantina di Mogoro San Bernadino Monica di Sardegna 2012

New low price! Regular Vin Chicago retail - $12.99!
90 Our Score
(1/2016) A new vintage of this sassy Sardinian steal! The blend is 85% Monica and 15% Bovale (known as Bobal in Spain). Light but penetrating aromas of red berry, cherry and spice. Soft in the mouth with flavors of sour cherry, strawberry, pepper and other spice - this shows more minerality on a slightly leaner frame than did the prior vintage. Fantasticly balanced, this is fresh as could be with sweet tannin and a warm, lingering finish. Serve with pasta in tomato based sauces or roasted meats.

Domaine Lafage "Cote Est" Grenache Blanc/Chardonnay/Roussanne 2015

90 Wine Advocate
(3/26/2016) "Checking in as a blend of 50% Grenache Blanc, 30% Chardonnay and 20% Roussanne that spent four months in tank, on lees, the smoking good 2015 IGP Cotes Catalanes Cote d'Est comes from vineyards located right up against the Mediterranean Sea. This medium-bodied, juicy and deliciously fresh white is almost overflowing with notes of orange blossom, peach, salty sea breeze and honey on the nose. It's a terrific value that should be bought by the case and enjoyed over the coming year."

Fattoria del Cerro Chianti Colli Senesi 2015

Bodegas Valdespino "Inocente" Fino Sherry NV

Holy cow, you need to read this write-up! This kind of complexity for ten bucks is unreal.
93 Decanter
94 Wine Advocate
(8/2013) "I've often called Valdespino 'the Romanee-Conti of Jerez.' Well, there, I've said it. To me they represent quality and tradition at the very top of the Sherry hierarchy. The NV Fino Inocente must be one of the few wines in Jerez that is still fermented in 600-liter American oak botas, which is an incredible amount of work compared with fermenting tens of thousands of kilos of grapes (or even more) in a big stainless steel tank. This method was the norm of yesteryear, but is so labor intense that it was discontinued in most wineries, and gives a big diversity of wines, as each barrel has its own character, which contributes to the complexity of the blend. Furthermore, the bottled wine is on average 8 to 10 years old. One other thing that makes it apart from other Finos is that the grapes are exclusively from the high part of the Macharnudo vineyard, so this is a single-vineyard Fino. The nose is very complex, showing the effect of the long lees contact: chalk, dried hay, aromatic herbs and salty almonds. The palate is full, but at the same time elegant and balanced, powerful and fine, with the texture of a Meursault rather than a Puligny. A very complex wine, that manages to be both powerful and elegant. Inocente is great value for money. Drink 2013-2016."

(12/31/2014) "A blend of 60% Syrah, 27% Merlot and a handful of other varieties added to the mix, this aromatically pops, with complex notes of plum, blueberry, smoke, chocolate and floral accents. It's silky smooth in feel, with abundant chocolaty flavors that help it go down far too easy."

Bodegas Bula "Bula" Montsant 2013

90+ Our Score
90 Vinous, Antonio Galloni
(9/2014) "(50% carinena, 30% garnacha and 20% syrah; aged for four months in French and American oak): Brilliant ruby. Bright red fruits on the nose, with peppery spices and a floral pastille element adding nuance. Deep and appealingly sweet but energetic too, with good energy and lift to its raspberry and bitter cherry flavors. Silky tannins build slowly on the long, pliant finish, with the floral note echoing."
