Bodegas Enrique Mendoza "La Tremenda" Monastrell 2014

92 Wine Advocate
(4/2016) "This wine has six months in used 500-liter barrels and a variable time in vat, between six months and one year. The 2014 feels very tender, it has the esparto grass austerity of the stony vineyards with the chalky soils and a myriad of Mediterranean herbs. They used some stems for the fermentation, which added a fine thread and makes it subtly textured. It has the dusty tannins and the saline tastiness of the limestone soils. It represents a superb value and a great introduction to the Monastrell from Alicante; the price is hard to believe."

Corte Alla Flora "Podere de Giuggiolo" Toscana Sangiovese 2014

90 Our Score
(6/2017) Corte Alla Flora produces a delicious Vino Nobile di Montepulciano as well as this crazy good Toscana Rosso, also made entirely from Sangiovese. Look for classic Tuscan flavors of tart black cherry, wild strawberry, dried flowers, wet leaves and cigar wrapper. With medium-plus acidity, great length and wonderful freshness, this is a perfect everyday red, especially for summertime grilling or paired with Wednesday night pizza. It is very well put together and quintessentially Tuscan.

90 Our Score
(8/2017) Wonderful complexity in this nicely-priced Cotes du Rhone Rose. A 50/50 blend of Grenache and Cinsault, it leads off with aromas and flavors of melon, apple and tart currant and finishes with notes of cherry, pink grapefruit and earth.

Fattoria del Cerro Chianti Colli Senesi 2015

92 James Suckling
(8/21/2016) "The nose here reminds me of Burgundy with dried flowers and red berry aromas. Tight but has beautiful ethereal red fruit and polished, almost inexistent tannins. Beautiful and delicate. Drink now."

Charles Gonnet Chignin Vin de Savoie 2014

New low price! Regular Vin Chicago retail - $12.79!
90 Our Score
(7/2015) The appellation of Savoie lies in eastern France, near the Swiss and Italian borders. This deceptively dense, dry white from the Savoie sub-zone of Chignin is made from 100% Jacquere, a grape grown here and in Switzerland. A perfect summertime white, it offers flavors of banana, apple and nectarine. Medium-plus in acidity, it has just 11.5% alcohol yet gives surprising weight in the mouth. Super fresh, alive and fun.

You just can't find this kind of value coming out of California. Washington State rocks!
91 Wine Spectator
(12/15/2015) "Supple, focused and distinctive, with a core of ripe plum, currant, sage and floral flavors, mingling effectively and harmoniously on the long, expressive finish. The tannins are nicely shaped. Drink now through 2020."

Domaine de Mongillon Cotes du Rhone Villages Visan Rouge 2015

This estate-grown wine delivers so far beyond expectations for $9.99 that we hardly know where to start!
90 Our Score
(5/2017) Juicy and delicious from the moment you pop the cork, this blend of 60% Grenache, 30% Syrah and 10% Carignan gets even better after spending an hour in a decanter. Yes, a ten buck wine you should decant! After being allowed to breathe, the Mongillon reveals even deeper, richer flavors while maintaining near perfect acidity. Pass a bottle around while you are warming up the coals on the barbecue and make sure to have a second bottle ready to enjoy with the burgers, lamb sausages or pork chops coming off the grill. If you are not familiar with the Southern Rhone, this is a tremendous start - if you ARE familiar, you need a case right now!

90 Wine Enthusiast
(6/1/2016) "This is a big-hearted, ripe wine from the Verhaeghe family, one of the top producers in Cahors. It is packed with black fruits and firm tannins. They promise richness to come with structure, wood aging flavors and density. It's a wine that is just starting out, still boasting its youthful fruit. Give it until 2020 before drinking."

Castro Ventosa "El Castro de Valtuille" Mencia Joven 2012

New low price! Regular Vin Chicago retail - $12.99!
90 Wine Advocate
(8/2013) "The young 2012 El Castro de Valtuille Mencia Joven, like all their wines fermented in stainless steel, spends two months in oak vats before being bottled, and needs lots of air. It displays very good concentration of aromas and flavors, showing minerality and elegance. It slowly reveals some licorice notes together with wild herbs and flowers. The palate is dense and ripe, while maintaining the freshness. Drink 2013-2018."

Casa Silva "1912 Vines" Colchagua Valley Sauvignon Gris 2014

New low price! Regular Vin Chicago retail - $14.99!
90+ Our Score
90 Vinous, Josh Raynolds
(6/2015) "Pale yellow. Smoky minerals, dried citrus fruits and jasmine on the fragrant nose. Spicy and precise, offering intense Meyer lemon and green apple flavors that flesh out and deepen with air. Powerful yet lithe and finely etched, finishing with excellent clarity and mineral-driven persistence. That 1912 designation refers to when the vines were planted, not how many of them are planted."
