E.Guigal "La Turque" Cote-Rotie 2009

New low price! Regular Vin Chicago retail - $499.99!
98 Wine Spectator
100 Wine Advocate
(12/2013) "The blockbuster 2009 Cote Rotie La Turque needs time, but there's no denying the quality here. Very ripe and voluptuous, with incredible aromas and flavors of black currants, coffee bean, roasted meats, licorice and raw steak, this full-bodied, muscular and powerful effort has a stacked mid-palate, ultra-fine, yet building tannin and a finish that just won't quit. Comprised of 93% Syrah and 7% Viognier, it's much more masculine and dense than the La Mouline, and will need additional cellar time to hit its peak."

E.Guigal "La Landonne" Cote-Rotie 2010

New low price! Regular Vin Chicago retail - $499.99!
99 Wine Spectator
100 Wine Advocate
(12/2014) "As with the other two single-parcel Cote Roties, the 2010 Cote Rotie La Landonne is pure perfection in a glass. An incredibly massive, muscular, full-bodied effort, it has an insane amount of structure to go with an equal amount of concentrated fruit. Cassis, smoked bacon, coffee bean, cracked pepper and liquid rock-like qualities are all present here, and it hits the palate with a chiseled, focused textured, building tannin and terrific length. It's the most backward of the 2010s and will require a decade of cellaring, but will keep for about as long as you'd like to hold onto bottles."

New low price! Regular Vin Chicago retail - $499.99!
99 Wine Spectator
100 Wine Advocate
(12/2013) "Another 2009 that exhibits over the top extravagance and richness, and one I can find no fault in, the 2009 Cote Rotie La Landonne offers a colossal and full-bodied profile that carries incredible aromas and flavors of roasted meats, smoke, asphalt and assorted meatiness that's all grounded by a massive core of fruit. A huge wine, it stays perfectly in check, with notable freshness, a deep, layered mid-palate and masses of fine tannin that carry through the finish. Hide this beauty in the cellar for another decade and enjoy."

New low price! Regular Vin Chicago retail - $499.99!
99 Wine Spectator
100 Wine Advocate
(12/2014) "On this showing, the 2010 La Turque was incredible, in a lineup of incredible wines. Offering off-the-chart notes of cassis, blackberry, aged beef, chocolate, crushed rock and exotic flowers, it flows onto the palate with a massive, full-bodied feel that carries ultra-fine tannin, awesome depth and a blockbuster finish. Syrah, or wine for that matter, doesn't get any better. Give this monumental Cote Rotie 5-6 years and enjoy it over the following 2-3 decades."

E.Guigal Ermitage "Ex Voto" Rouge 2009

New low price! Regular Vin Chicago retail - $499.99!
97 Wine Spectator
99 Wine Advocate
(12/2013) "Starting out and one of the most prodigious wines in the vintage, the 2009 Ermitage Ex-Voto is locked and loaded, with a massive amount of raw material. Giving up thrilling amounts of plum, licorice, toasted spice and powdered rock-like minerality, it hits the palate with a muscular, full-bodied texture, big tannin and a blockbuster finish. Serious on all accounts, this incredible effort has the fruit and texture to dish out plenty of enjoyment even now, yet really needs short-term cellaring. Two to three decades of evolution should not be out of the question."

Tenuta dell'Ornellaia "Le Serre Nuove" Bolgheri 2011 3.0 LT

New low price! Regular Vin Chicago retail on this Double Magnum - $299.99!
94 Wine Advocate
94 Vinous, Antonio Galloni
(9/2014) "The 2011 Le Serre Nuove dell'Ornellaia comes across as tight and shut down today. There is plenty of depth in the glass, but less of the appeal I saw just a few months ago. The high tannins of the vintage and the relatively large amount of Petit Verdot (14%) are both very marked at this stage in the wine's life. Readers holding the 2011 are best off cellaring their bottles for at least another 1-2 years. The 2011 Le Serre Nuove is a powerhouse."

94 Wine Advocate
(6/2013) "Vorezio offers new perspective on one of Piedmont's most popular red grapes. The 2008 Barbera d'Alba Riserva Vigneto Pozzo dell'Annunziata (tasted in a magnum) delivers impressive sophistication to Barbera. Careful barrel aging has shaped aromas of bacon fat, smoke, underbrush, rum cake and bitter chocolate. The wine shows impeccable smoothness and elegance in the mouth, with a spicy acidic accent that will appeal to die-hard Barbera enthusiasts. Anticipated maturity: 2014-2022."

(7/2016) "The 2005 Barbera d'Alba Riserva Vigneto Pozzo dell'Annunziata from magnum is fabulous. Rich, voluptuous and exquisitely layered, the 2005 hits all the right notes. Dark red cherry, plum, mocha and sweet spices are all pushed forward into the sensual, inviting finish. This is a superb showing from Voerzio's Barbera. Drinking Window: 2016 - 2025."

94 Wine Advocate
(4/29/2002) "Along with the 1997, the 1999 is the most forward and accessible La Mondotte yet produced. Its opaque purple color is followed by a glorious nose of candied black fruits, graphite, licorice, and underbrush. It is full-bodied and sumptuous, possessing amazing extract and richness for the vintage. Its high tannin is hidden by a wealth of glycerin, fruit, and extract. Moreover, the finish lasts for 35-45 seconds. This is an amazing achievement in 1999. Anticipated maturity: 2005-2020."

Quintarelli Recioto della Valpolicella 2001

New low price! Regular Vin Chicago retail - $184.99!
Our Score
Recioto is the semi-sweet version of Amarone and is actually the style that predates the dry version. After the Corvina and Rondinella grapes have been dried on wooden racks for 4 months, they are pressed yielding small quantities of juice. The wine is then aged for at least 8 years in neutral barrel. This is an extremely special bottle and it will be perfect as a dessert.

(3/2016) "Bollinger's 2009 Millesime Edition Limitee 007 has a very clear, fine and fruity bouquet that reflects a perfect blend of Grands Crus dressed with Pinot Noir (68%) and Chardonnay (32%). Fermented in small used barrels and disgorged in February 2014, the 2009 is very elegant, intense and balanced on the palate; it reveals a remarkable finesse with fine pearls and sweet cherry-flavored fruit. Its finish is well structured and quite powerful and fruity, though it keeps the elegant style."

"It is a ruby ??color, bright and deep with hints of garnet; persistent perfumes, large and complex, which express fruit notes, spices and flowers. The palate shows a powerful lobby and at the same time is delicate, rich, and of intriguing originality. It is a tasty, complex wine that makes you want to taste repeatedly. Its great softness and richness of tannins make it ideal for pasta dishes made with truffles and mushrooms, red meat, game and aged cheeses and meats."

Chateau Bellevue Mondotte St. Emillion 2006

95+ Wine Advocate
(2/2009) "This tiny, 5-acre vineyard with nearly 50-year old vines produces only 4,000 bottles from a blend of 90% Merlot and 10% Cabernet Franc. The broodingly tannic, backward 2006 is remarkably concentrated, pure, and deep. It is an amazing tour de force in winemaking, but like nearly all the Perse 2006s, it is a massively built vin de garde with no compromises meant for serious connoisseurs and long-term cellaring. Forget it for 7-8 years, and drink it over the following 25-30."

96 Vinous, Antonio Galloni
(8/2016) "The NV Brut Blanc de Noirs Grand Cru Les Crayères Vieilles Vignes is one of the more refined, polished wines I have ever tasted from Francis Egly. Everything is simply in the right place. Mirabelle plum, hard candy, flowers, mint and chalk are all beautifully delineated in a super-classy, polished Champagne that showcases the Egly-Ouriet style at its very best. Lifted, gracious and precise, the Vieilles Vignes is simply magnificent. The 25% new oak is totally integrated, even at this early stage. This release is 60% 2009 and 40% 2008, a blend of vintages that could not possibly be more complementary. Disgorged November, 2015. Dosage is 2 grams per liter."

Donnhoff Oberhauser Brucke Riesling Eiswein 2011

New low price! Regular Vin Chicago retail - $149.99!
Winemakers Notes
92 Wine Advocate
(2/2013) ""'You with your (expletive) Eiswein!' Gabi told me when we left these grapes hanging," relates Donnhoff, and in fact his 2011 Oberhauser Brucke Riesling Eiswein was another of those that threatened to disrupt the Christmas holidays, and when that didn't happen threatened yet worse. Helmut and Gabi Donnhoff left for Singapore and Cornelius for the U.S. "My daughter Christina was at home," Donnhoff continues, "academically astute, loves wine, but has no idea about viticulture. On January 17, the telephone rings. 'Mama, it's going to get cold tonight. And not just a little: minus 10 (14o F.). What should I do?!' So we set-up a three-way Skype connection, helped organized everything with the pickers, monitored the situation hour-by-hour, and walked Christina through the entire cellar process." I wish I could after all that say we have here 250 liters of truly great Donnhoff Eiswein, but the 2011 vintage itself is surely responsible for any weaknesses, not the unorthodox process by which picking and pressing were managed, let alone Christina, thanks to whom the world is enriched by an amazing if slightly awkward young wine. Musk and leather; prickly radish and lemon rind; caramel apple and honey; passion fruit and mango inform an intense aromatic as well as ultra-concentrated palate performance. Unlike with so many other 2011s rendered from frozen grapes in early 2012, one can't complain here about a lack of Eiswein-like acidity - but it takes-on a somewhat detached, slightly metallic and strident edge. Perhaps this extreme wine's caramelized and animal aspects will reconcile themselves in time with its sharp citricity and radish-like sizzle, but the ways of Eiswein in the bottle are capricious."

Textbook "Mise en Place" Napa Valley Cabernet Sauvignon 2012

New low price! Regular Vin Chicago retail on this Magnum - $127.99!
95 Wine Advocate
(10/2014) "The inky/purple-colored 2012 Cabernet Sauvignon Mise en Place comes from the rocky east side of Oakville, and spent 24 months in French oak. Playing it closer to the vest than its siblings, with coaxing, it reveals some extraordinarily ripe, rich blueberry and blackberry fruit intermixed with hints of charcoal, scorched earth and wet rocks. It has tremendous upside potential, but at present it is the least flattering of the Textbook Cabernets. Full-bodied and powerful, it should turn out to be a beauty, but buyers should plan on deferring their gratification for 2-4 years. Watch the magic unfold over the following two decades. Drink: 2016 - 2036."

This 100% Verzernay stunner is composed of Pinot Noir and Chardonnay with less than 750 bottles produced. This expression is rich and chewy with dark cherry and blackberry as protagonist. Solid supporting roles are played by tobacco, spice and bitter dark chocolate. The 2010 vintage shows a superior sense of finesse and silkiness in the mouth. Picconero can be put aside for long cellar aging."

Violets, plums, licorice, sweet spices and tar are all woven together in a wine that shows the finesse Nuits can at times achieve. The tannins are firm yet also impeccable in their silkiness. Following six months of sur lie aging in barrel, the wine was bottle aged an additional 16 months en tirage prior to disgorging. The wine was finished with no dosage, to preserve its finesse. (9/2016) Among many a feather in Heidi Barret's cap are two 100-point wines while at the helm of Screaming Eagle in its infancy. One bottle would later net a world record for its $500,000 purchase price. Robert Parker has dubbed her "The First Lady of Wine". This is her gift to us: an "obtainable cult wine!" Wine Advocate awarded a score of 91+ back in 2014. Two years later, after some time in the bottle, we think it's drinking even better and will continue to evolve with further aging. It has impressive complex flavors of dark berries, cassis, pepper and cedar. A wine with longevity, this should drink well for the next 10-15 years. Chateau Louis St.-Emilion 2010

(2/2013) "From the proprietors of the famous Paris bistro founded in 1924, L'Ami Louis, Chateau Louis is the renamed estate formerly called Rol de Fombrauge, purchased in 2006 by the late Thierry de La Brosse. It is a tiny estate of just over 10 acres, with vines averaging just over 45 years. The yields in 2010 were virtually nothing - a mere 12 hectoliters per hectare. A blend of 80% Merlot and 20% Cabernet Franc this big, powerful, full-bodied, rich wine in many ways reflects the generous cuisine of this famous bistro. Full-bodied, with a dense opaque/purple color and notes of creosote, truffle, blackberry and black raspberry, the wine also has a floral note and hints of crushed rock, giving it a certain minerality. The precision of the 2010 is there because of good acidity. Forget this dense, back-strapping, intense wine for 4-5 years and drink it over the following two decades. It tips the scales at 14.7% natural alcohol."

Talley Vineyards "Rincon Vineyard" Arroyo Grande Vally Pinot Noir 2011

New low price! Regular Vin Chicago retail - $49.99!
94 Wine Advocate
"Showing the darker, more masculine side to the variety, the 2011 Pinot Noir Rincon Vineyard dishes out deep, mineral-laced aromas and flavors of black raspberry, licorice, vanilla and tinges of leather. Pure, rich and textured, with ripe tannin and a fantastic sense of tension and verve, it will have 12-15 years of ultimate longevity. Drink 2015-2026."

Chateau de Suronde Quarts de Chaume 1997

Made entirely with Chenin Blanc from Vouvray, this Loire Valley dessert wine is just about perfect. Golden raisins and ripe pear envelop the palate with creamy richness, while a subtle suggestion of acidity keeps the texture from becoming sappy. The fact that this is already 15 years old offers a glimpse as to why the flavors are so darn cohesive here. This should be a very seductive alternative to Sauternes drinkers looking for something a little different (and, in our opinion, better). (10/2015) "Brilliant red. Heady, spice-accented aromas of fresh red berries and flowers, along with hints of white pepper and underbrush. Fresh, precise and appealingly sweet, with lively raspberry and mulberry flavors picking up a candied rose quality with air. Shows very good tenacity and lift on the persistent finish, which is given shape by silky, fine-grained tannins."

Charles Smith "Sixto" Frenchmen Hills Vineyard Chardonnay 2012

New low price! Regular Vin Chicago retail - $48.99!
93 Wine Advocate
(6/2015) "Of the three Sixto Chardonnay releases, the 2012 Chardonnay Frenchman Hills Vineyard comes from the highest elevation site and cool, north-facing slopes and broken basalt soils. Seeing a scant 17% new French oak, it has lively, crisp notes of green citrus, toasted bread and buttered apple to go with a medium to full-bodied, balanced, fresh, yet also rich style on the palate. One of the top Chardonnays coming out of Washington, it should drink nicely for at least 2-3 years."

This lovely Rose shows a brilliant pink core, with streaks of garnet and magenta. On the nose, cranberry, raspberry and cherry notes are followed by a white mineral tone. The complexity is impressive, but the deliciousness is forward and accessible. A very high quality grower Rose Champagne.

(8/1/2016) "A stunning bottling from the Franscioni family, this shows exotic cinnamon, crystallized black-cherry juice, fresh black raspberry and graphite on the extremely elegant, soft and inviting nose. There's a tension between ripe black raspberry and everything else on the palate, from fennel and black pepper to black slate minerality. It's a seamless wine."

Fess Parker "Bien Nacido Vineyard" Santa Barbara Pinot Noir 2012

New low price! Regular Vin Chicago retail - $47.99!
93 Wine Advocate
(8/2014) "The 2012 Pinot Noir Bien Nacido is a medium-bodied, rich, textured, yet elegant red that has plenty of ripe black cherries, underbrush, salt block and wild herb aromas and flavors. Seeing 15% whole cluster inclusion and 17 months in 46% new French oak, it excels for it purity, as well as for its seamless, silky texture. I'd drink it over the coming 4-6 years, but suspect it will evolve for longer."

(1/2015) "One of the great values in Napa Valley, David Ramey's 2012 Cabernet Sauvignon is fabulous. The flavors are bold, intense and creamy, with silky tannins, voluptuous energy and tons of pure balance. The 2012 is delicious today, but also has enough depth to drink well for another decadeplus. Drinking window: 2015 - 2024."

Chateau La Tour du Pin St. Emilion 2009

New low price! Regular Vin Chicago retail - $45.99!
90+ Wine Advocate
(2/2012) "This wine has closed down somewhat since I had it from barrel and exhibits a firm, earthy, mineral-laced style. Made from 80% Merlot and 20% Cabernet Franc, the ripe black raspberry and blueberry fruit are present, along with some sandy, loamy soil notes. The tannins are sweet, but very elevated, and the wine rich and long but currently somewhat austere and needing bottle age. Give it 2 or 3 years of cellaring and drink it over the following 15+ years."

(7/2013) "A fascinating contrast to the Vanguard, the 2011 Chardonnay Old Guard is much more airy, precise and delicate. Hints of lemon, pastry and white stone fruits all flow in a Chardonnay that stands out for its pure class and personality. Bright, saline-infused notes support the finish. This is a first-class showing. The 2011 was aged 68% in neutral oak and 32% in steel, with partial malolactic fermentation (25%) and weekly batonnage."

De Martino "Vigno" Dry-Farmed Maule Valley Carignan 2013

New low price! Regular Vin Chicago retail - $44.99!
96 Wine Advocate
(12/2015) "The 2013 Vigno Single Vineyard La Aguada is part of the Vigno association of producers of Carignan (Cariñena) from the Maule Valley. The wine is produced from a field blend from an ungrafted, dry farmed, head-pruned old vineyard called La Aguada in Sauzal. The secret here is to mature the wine in large volume oak containers, something they are doing with all of their top wines that has worked really well. 2013 is a year with better natural acidity than previous years, while alcohol levels were moderate, yields were naturally high and they had to work to contain them. The grapes fermented with indigenous yeasts and the wine matured in 5,000-liter oak foudres for two years. This is a wine of character, the nose has a special freshness and incipient complexity for such an early age; there are aromas of bacon, tree bark, wild berries and a pinch of spices. The palate is medium-bodied with refined, ultra-polished tannins that give elegance to that internet rusticity, while at the same time it is restrained with a certain austerity. I've had this wine at least four times and it's quite a chameleon, sometimes showing itself more like a Syrah, sometimes it felt more Cariñena and it was always ever changing in the glass. There is a lot of complexity, and even if sometimes I felt like there was a lack of typicity, my final conclusion is that the field blend has to be the reason for such complexity and changing personality. For now, this is certainly world-class Cariñena, and among the best wines produced in Chile. Well done! An open bottle evolved nicely during the course of three days, which gives an indication of a robust wine resistant to oxidation, which I think should also evolve nicely and slowly in bottle."

Calera "De Villiers Vineyard" Mt. Harlan Pinot Noir 2011

New low price! Regular Vin Chicago retail - $43.99!
93 Wine Advocate
(8/2014) "First up and seriously perfumed, the 2011 Pinot Noir de Villiers is a gorgeous wine that excels both for its complexity and for its richness and breath on the palate. Giving up notes of ripe cherries, wild strawberries, exotic flowers, citron and spice, it has medium to full-bodied richness, a core of sweet fruit and a rich, seamless texture. In fact, it has a rare level of depth and texture in the vintage, and while beautiful today, I imagine it will evolve gracefully."
