Jean Lallement Millesime Grand Cru Brut 2008

New low price! Regular Vin Chicago retail - $91.99!
93+ Our Score
This 100% Verzernay stunner is composed of Pinot Noir and Chardonnay with less than 750 bottles produced. It is taut and powerful, needing a bit of air to open up before the refreshing citrus reveals itself. The yeast component is compelling and the balance uncanny. The Pinot really shines through here. At this price, it is a rare treat!

Sojourn Oakville Napa Valley Cabernet Sauvignon 2012

New low price! Regular Vin Chicago retail - $68.99!
93 Wine Advocate
(12/2014) "From Napa, the 2012 Cabernet Sauvignon Oakville possesses a dense ruby/purple color, a complex nose of forest floor, licorice, baking spices, Christmas fruitcake, blackberries and cassis intermixed with hints of coffee as well as oak. This full-bodied, supple textured, velvety, showy Cabernet Sauvignon should drink well for 10-15+ years."

(9/2016) Among many a feather in Heidi Barret's cap are two 100-point wines while at the helm of Screaming Eagle in its infancy. One bottle would later net a world record for its $500,000 purchase price. Robert Parker has dubbed her "The First Lady of Wine". This is her gift to us: an "obtainable cult wine!" Wine Advocate awarded a score of 91+ back in 2014. Two years later, after some time in the bottle, we think it's drinking even better and will continue to evolve with further aging. It has impressive complex flavors of dark berries, cassis, pepper and cedar. A wine with longevity, this should drink well for the next 10-15 years. Don't miss your opportunity to get a hold of a bottle of this small production gem!

91 Vinous, Stephen Tanzer
(12/2014) "(91% Cabernet Sauvignon, 7% Merlot and 2% Cabernet Franc): Good dark red. Superripe aromas of boysenberry, mocha and coffee, conveying an almost roasted aspect. Then wonderfully full, plush and sweet in the mouth, with cherry and currant flavors given added sex appeal by a chocolatey quality. Utterly seamless wine with a very long, sweetly tannic after. This offers immediate pleasure at a very reasonable price."

Chateau Louis St.-Emilion 2010

New low price! Regular Vin Chicago retail - $55.99!
92 Wine Advocate
(2/2013) "From the proprietors of the famous Paris bistro founded in 1924, L'Ami Louis, Chateau Louis is the renamed estate formerly called Rol de Fombrauge, purchased in 2006 by the late Thierry de La Brosse. It is a tiny estate of just over 10 acres, with vines averaging just over 45 years. The yields in 2010 were virtually nothing - a mere 12 hectoliters per hectare. A blend of 80% Merlot and 20% Cabernet Franc this big, powerful, full-bodied, rich wine in many ways reflects the generous cuisine of this famous bistro. Full-bodied, with a dense opaque/purple color and notes of creosote, truffle, blackberry and black raspberry, the wine also has a floral note and hints of crushed rock, giving it a certain minerality. The precision of the 2010 is there because of good acidity. Forget this dense, back-strapping, intense wine for 4-5 years and drink it over the following two decades. It tips the scales at 14.7% natural alcohol."

Charles Smith "Sixto" Frenchmen Hills Vineyard Chardonnay 2012

New low price! Regular Vin Chicago retail - $48.99!
93 Wine Advocate
(6/2015) "Of the three Sixto Chardonnay releases, the 2012 Chardonnay Frenchman Hills Vineyard comes from the highest elevation site and cool, north-facing slopes and broken basalt soils. Seeing a scant 17% new French oak, it has lively, crisp notes of green citrus, toasted bread and buttered apple to go with a medium to full-bodied, balanced, fresh, yet also rich style on the palate. One of the top Chardonnays coming out of Washington, it should drink nicely for at least 2-3 years."

(New Low Price! Original Vin Chicago Retail - $41.59!) (11/2015) "The NV Brut Cuvée Ste.-Anne is, as always, a terrific introduction to Alexandre Chartogne's wines. Equal parts Pinot and Chardonnay, the Ste.-Anne offers lovely textural breadth and nuance. Almonds, honey, mint and dried pears open up nicely in the glass. Think of the Ste.-Anne like a village-level Burgundy from a top grower. Best of all, the Ste.-Anne is a terrific value in fine, artisan Champagne. The current release is equal parts Chardonnay and Pinot Noir based on 2012, with 20% each 2011 an 2010 reserve wines. Drink this forward, supple Champagne over the next few years. Dosage is 4 grams/liter."

"Hansel's 2011 Chardonnay Cuvee Alyce is gorgeous. Not as overt as in most years, the 2011 is nevertheless quite beautiful. Butter, smoke, apricots and orange blossoms come to life in the glass. The 2011 isn't as tropical or buttery as it often is, but it is very, very pretty just the same. Sweet floral and spiced notes add lift on the hugely appealing finish. Anticipated maturity: 2013-2018." (April, 2013)

(8/2015) "The 2013 Malbec, mainly from Medrano and Perdriel, matured in used barrels for eight months. This is extremely aromatic and perfumed with intense aromas of violets and even lilies, and some fruitiness akin to a Touringa Nacional and even Moscatel, but of course, it had none in the blend. The palate is silky, the tannins are extremely fine and there is no trace of oak here plus the acidity is subtle and very well integrated. 2013 is higher in acidity than 2014. This is a superb Malbec with high-pitched fruit.."

Domaine Francis Blanchet "Vielle Vignes" Pouilly Fume 2014

90 Our Score
(8/2015) Pouilly Fume, located in the Loire Valley just across the river from Sancerre, has more flinty minerality than its famous neighbor and is just as delicious. Since 1684, Francis Blanchet's family has been carefully cultivating some of the tastiest Sauvignon Blanc in the area. The Vieilles Vignes bottling comes from vines that are 40-50 years old. Lime zest, peach and crushed white rocks dance out of the glass in this mouth-watering wine with a lovely finish of crisp acid and cheese and apple rind. Try it with scallops, goat cheese or ceviche.

(5/2017) - An amazing close-out opportunity! This wine blends 51% Marsanne with 31% Clairette and 18% Ugni Blanc and hails from the Provence appellation of Cassis, a majestic village whose vineyards literally touch the Mediterranean. Rhone like and slightly closed initially, the wine magically opens three days later, similar to how a mature Chateauneuf-du-Pape Blanc might behave. Honeyed, with white peach, grapefruit and melon, with hints of sea spray and marcona almond. A wonderfully unique bottling that grately benefits from oxygen! Decant it for two-three days - trust us!

Domaine de Fenouillet Vin de Pays de Vaucluse 2014

New low price! Regular Vin Chicago retail - $9.99!
90 Our Score
(8/2015) When we opened this bottle for our staff there was a chorus of "oohs and aahs" as aromas spilled out, redolent of wild flowers, strawberry jam, clove and slate. The palate echoes these notes and continues on with more robust elements of leather, pine needles, white pepper, spice box and with supple tannins, bright acidity and a wisp of smoke. Supremely versatile, it will pair beautifully with a humble hamburger, grilled rack of lamb or even a smoky baba ganoush. Despite the low price, this is not a high volume wine, with only 700 to 800 cases imported annually for the entire country.
