Descendientes des Palacios "Villa de Corullon" Bierzo 2012

95 Wine Advocate
(1/2015) "The 2012 Corullón is very fresh and aromatic, with citric aromas, very subtle, like an amplified version of Pétalos, more fragrant and fresh than Moncerbal, really open and accessible, changing by the minute, with faint notes of underbrush and captivating hints of bitter almonds and fennel. The palate is medium-bodied, very accessible, silky, with velvety tannins and good acidity. This is approachable now, but with it's balance, freshness and weight, it should age effortlessly and with class. I'm also tempted to say that this is the best Corullón to date. Drink: 2015 - 2022."

Dominio del Aguila "Picaro del Aguila" Ribera del Duero 2013

92+ Our Score
92 Wine Advocate
(10/2015) "The 2013 Pícaro Tinto is Tempranillo with 5% Albillo from a mixture of north facing vineyards in the Sotillejo quarter of La Aguilera, the village of Burgos where they have all of their vineyards. They do not own a destemmer machine, so all of their wines ferment in full clusters and always with indigenous yeasts, in this case in cement vats. This 2013 had a shorter aging in barrel than the previous years and they also used a smaller percentage of new oak. This part of the village produces wines of great energy; the nose is fresh with an Atlantic, cool, herbal twist, representing the vintage, a year with a shorter vegetative cycle in the shape of red and black wild berries with some floral hints. This is an accessible, fresh and quite fruit-driven Ribera from a cool place in a cool vintage. The oak is very nicely integrated, with some spices and some grainy, slightly chalky tannins. Ideal for food. 8,000 bottles."

Finca Villacreces Ribera del Duero 2009

Typical retail is $39. We're blowing it out for $27.99!

(6/2014) "Pure in its expression of place, Villacreces is a selection from low-yielding vines among the 160 acres that the winery tends in Quintanilla de Onésimo. Ripe red fruit scents dominate this wine, along with aromas of anise and spice. The oak is well integrated, perceptible in the smooth texture yet not imparting any overt wood flavors. The fruit has such depth that it invites a second glass, while also suggesting a long life ahead."

Bodega del Abad "Carracedo" Bierzo Mencia 2010

Not many wines manage to simultaneously be delicate AND powerful. Something very special here.
92 Our Score
92 Wine Advocate
(8/28/2013) "The 2010 Carracedo is the winery's flagship red, sourced from two vineyards over 80 years old, where each vine produced between 1 and 1.3 kilograms of grapes. The grapes were fermented in oak barrels of 300 and 500 liters. Malolactic fermentation was carried out in new oak barriques. The wine aged for 14 months in second- and third-year barrels. They didn't produce it in 2009, because they thought it was too warm, but the 2010 has a deep purple color and a nose of dark cherries and plums. The palate is full-bodied, with plenty of stuffing and dry extract, balanced by good acidity. It displays good length and a persistent finish. It's a wine that needs powerful food, red meat or a stew to enjoy on a winter day. Drink 2014-2019."

(4/2016) "Always among the best values of Spain, the 2013 Pétalos del Bierzo has an extra degree of freshness in a cool vintage, and some time in bottle always does this wine wonders. It's aromatic, open and expressive, with floral aromas and bright fruit, wild strawberries and violets. This is always a subtle, medium-bodied wine, with fine tannins, sleek acidity and a fine minerality. Ready now."

(9/2014). "(Aged in large, old wooden tanks): Light yellow. Pungent, mineral-accented aromas of lemon pith and green apple, with subtle herbal and floral qualities adding complexity. Fleshy and smooth on entry, then tighter in the middle, offering refreshingly bitter lemon zest and quince flavors and a touch of anise. Closes on a minerally note, with very good clarity and length."

Bodegas Vetus "Flor de Vetus" Toro Red 2012

Best Vetus we've ever tasted. Delicious!
92 Our Score
92 Wine Advocate
(6/2014) "Made from 100% Tinta de Toro aged ten months in French and American oak, the full-bodied, complex, dry 2012 Flor de Vetus offers up notes of Provencal herbs, white chocolate and jammy black cherry and blackcurrant fruit. This opulent, chewy, voluptuously textured red comes from high-elevation (2,100 feet) vineyards and represents a stunning value. Drink it over the next 3-4 years."
