Tenuta Degli Sforza "Marchesano" Colli d'Imola Cabernet Sauvignon Riserva 2011

This Cabernet Sauvignon made our jaws drop. Cab lovers, do not miss.
94 Our Score
(4/2017) This is as good of a $50 Cabernet Sauvignon as you will ever find. Interestingly, it's not from Napa Valley but from a very small, eccentric producer in Emilia Romagna. The hand-picked grapes, some of which were allowed to dry by over-ripening on the vine, were vinified and then aged for 24 months in small, fine oak and another year in bottle before release. The resulting wine has an incredible nose that is intense, complex and loaded with wood spice, leather and dark berry aromas. The palate is oozing with dark berries, oak and spice with gripping tannins that smooth out nicely on the oh-so-long finish. Complex and layered with serious depth of flavor, this outstanding Cabernet is done just the way we like 'em at Vin Chicago.

Celli "I Croppi" Albana di Romagna Secco 2015

90 Our Score
(3/2017) This impressive dry white earned the coveted "Tre Bicchieri" award from Gambero Rosso and is one of the most unique Italian wines you will come across in this price category. From a family winery in a unique, cooler climate, clay and limestone soiled sub-zone of Emiglia-Romagna, this golden-tinged wine gives off aromas of ripe apple, apricot and lemon pith along with white flowers and intense minerality. Only stainless steel was used which preserves the bright acidity and freshness while the texture is unctuous, making it an awesome pairing with fatty seafood or white meats. This was a real eye-opener at our "Tre Bicchieri" dinner paired with fried bread with smoked eel. Wow!

Celli "Le Grillaie" Romagna Sangiovese 2015

90+ Our Score
(3/2017) Celli's "Le Grillaie" is a perfectly priced, slightly rustic and totally over-delivering Sangiovese. Produced in stainless steel tanks, without any oak contact, the color is darker and the intensely aromatic nose filled with black cherry, raspberry and purple plum, with a light nuance of black pepper spice and floral note. On the palate, this medium-bodied charmer offers gritty tannins that engage but do not overpower. The result is a charismatic wine that begs to be paired with Italian sausage, braised and grilled meats, hearty red sauce pastas and deep dish pizza.

Fiorini "Becco Rosso" Grasparossa Lambrusco 2015

88-89 Our Score
(7/2017) This is a great, dry, real-deal Lambrusco - Forget the semi-sweet wines that dominated the 1970's and '80s! You're greeted by a surprisingly dark, nearly purple appearance. Fruity aromas of black cherry, plum and blackberries are complicated by violet, dried oregano, sassafras and smoke. This wine flashes a savory side in your mouth that screams of an eagerness to pair with a range of food. The palate gets refreshed with moderate effervescence and balanced acidity. This fun bubbly even packs a bit of soft tannin on its lengthy finish! Try with cured meats, summer grilling fare or a fennel sausage pizza to find out what you're missing.

Winemakers Notes
"Deep rosé colour, with clear fragrances of strawberry and brushwood. Its taste is fresh, pervasive, mineral, and at the same time velvety and surprisingly pleasant. Dynamic."
