La Rioja Alta "904" Gran Reserva Rioja 2007

95 Wine Advocate
(8/30/2016) "This wants to be the classic Gran Reserva--polished, silky and elegant, with aging potential. It is a blend of Tempranillo with 10% Mazuelo aged for four years in well-seasoned American oak barrels, with eight manual rackings. I found that the freshness of the vintage and its relatively young age gave the wine a youngish character that I loved, combining developed notes of meat, spices, leather and balsam with almost cherry-like aromas. The palate feels balanced and elegant, with fine-grained and fully resolved tannins and great acidity. This vintage of 904 surprised me!"

Valenciso Rioja Alta Reserva 2007

93 Wine Advocate
(12/2013) "The 2007 Valenciso Reserva is pure Tempranillo from argilo-calcareous soils around Haro cropped at 38 hectoliters per hectare, fermented in cement vats with native yeasts, and aged for 16 months in French oak barrels, one third of which are new. 2007 was a cold, wet, Atlantic and difficult vintage, where the date of the harvest made a big difference. At Valenciso they started on October 14 and the wine is quite tight at the moment, with subtle and elegant notes of red and black fruit, cedar wood, nutmeg and vanilla. The characteristic that strikes me as more important here is the balance, something that Valenciso seems to be quite good at, producing classically proportioned wines with the right amount of extraction, acidity and wood. It should age very well. This wine represents the bulk of the 100,000 bottles produced by the winery. Drink 2014-2022."

Remelluri Rioja Reserva 2010

95 James Suckling
93 Wine Advocate
(2/4/2015) "A blend of the reds Tempranillo, Garnacha, Graciano and the whites Viura and Malvasia Riojana, it fermented with indigenous yeasts in a combination of stainless steel and oak vats then matured in French oak barrels for 17 months. The nose has earthy aromas and notes of ripe orange peel giving old-style character to the wine marked by very well-integrated oak and an obvious Rioja character. There are cherries, plums and spices with licorice and ink aromas. The day after, it has more strawberries with very good freshness, so the evolution in bottle should be good. The palate is medium-bodied with grainy tannins and good acidity that ends with sweet fruit flavors and something earthy, very pleasant and easy to drink. It grows on you. Drink 2014 - 2024."

R. Lopez de Heredia "Vina Tondonia" Reserva Rioja 2004

94 James Suckling
94 Wine Advocate
(4/2015) "The 2004 Viña Tondonia Reserva is a completely different story. It is a worthy follower of the 2001, the greatest of the Viña Tondonia Reservas of recent times. It has the usual blend and usual levels of alcohol and acidity, bottled after six years in oak barrels. The nose feels savory (if that's possible-umami?) and developed, with tertiary aromas and good balance between spices, leathery notes, cherries and balsamic notes of cigar box and incense. The palate is both round and crisp, with refined tannins. It has very good balance with subtle acidity and very good persistence. Drink Date: 2015 - 2024."

(9/2014) "(75% tempranillo, 15% garnacha, 5% graciano and 5% mazuelo): Vivid ruby. Musky red fruits, cherry, pipe tobacco and a hint of vanilla on the fragrant nose. Juicy and tightly focused, offering tangy raspberry and bitter cherry flavors and a touch of candied rose. Finishes on a tangy note, with a hint of blood orange, repeating florality and silky tannins coming up late. This is ready to drink but I wouldn't be surprised to see it age gracefully."

(11/2015) "Bright ruby-red. Ripe cherry, vanilla and floral pastilles on the smoky, oak-spiced nose. Sweet and supple on the palate, offering pliant red fruit and spicecake flavors with suave mocha and vanilla bean nuances. Quite lively and fresh for a wine from a hot vintage, and showing no excess fat. Finishes sweet, toasty and very long, with smooth tannins making a late appearance."

La Rioja Alta "Vina Ardanza" Rioja Reserva 2007

92-93 Our Score
94 Wine Advocate

(11/2015) "Brilliant red. Lively, oak-spiced raspberry and cherry scents are complemented by candied rose and vanilla, with a smoky mineral topnote providing added lift. Sappy and seamless on the palate, offering juicy red fruit, mocha and coconut flavors plus a suggestion of sweet chewing tobacco. In a graceful, approachable style, finishing with strong, thrust and silky, late-arriving tannins. While this suave Rioja is quite enjoyable now, I'd give it some more time in the cellar so that the American oak is able to integrate with the wine's fruit. Drinking window: 2019 - 2025"

Cune Gran Reserva Rioja 2010

#22 - Wine Spectator's Top 100 Wines of 2016! We called this one a shoo-in for Top 100. We were right!
94 Wine Spectator
(6/30/2016) "Highly Recommended - This generous red shows a traditional character, with leafy, dried herb, tea and spice notes framing dried cherry, licorice and leather flavors. Firm tannins and balsamic acidity impart structure, and this shows plenty of depth, with a juicy, spicy finish. Drink now through 2025. 600 cases imported."

Remelluri "Lindes de Remelluri - Labastida" Rioja 2010

92 Our Score
93 Wine Advocate
(8/2012) "The 2010 Lindes de Remelluri Vinedos de Labastida is produced with grapes purchased from suppliers in the village of Labastida. Telmo Rodriguez returned to Remelluri in February 2010, and the 2009 wines from external suppliers were already blended together. In 2010, he kept the different lots produced with purchased grapes separated by village. In these wines he wants to give protagonism to the grape growers and to the villages. The wines are fresh and fluid, but this is gentler and finer, softer than the one sourced from fruit grown in San Vicente, subtler and more elegant. In 2010, the grapes were harvested late, and the ripening process was slow, which resulted in very pure fruit, and a Burgundian wine with lots of freshness, great acidity and clean and pure flavors. A new delicious way for Rioja. For the quality this wine delivers I think it has a very good price. 60,000 bottles produced. Drink 2014-2020."
