New low price! Regular Vin Chicago retail on this Magnum - $299.99!
97 James Suckling

(6/2013) "Vorezio offers new perspective on one of Piedmont's most popular red grapes. The 2008 Barbera d'Alba Riserva Vigneto Pozzo dell'Annunziata (tasted in a magnum) delivers impressive sophistication to Barbera. Careful barrel aging has shaped aromas of bacon fat, smoke, underbrush, rum cake and bitter chocolate. The wine shows impeccable smoothness and elegance in the mouth, with a spicy acidic accent that will appeal to die-hard Barbera enthusiasts. Anticipated maturity: 2014-2022."

(7/2016) "The 2005 Barbera d'Alba Riserva Vigneto Pozzo dell'Annunziata from magnum is fabulous. Rich, voluptuous and exquisitely layered, the 2005 hits all the right notes. Dark red cherry, plum, mocha and sweet spices are all pushed forward into the sensual, inviting finish. This is a superb showing from Voerzio's Barbera. Drinking Window: 2016 - 2025."

Roberto Voerzio "La Serra" Barolo 2008

95 Wine Spectator
96+ Vinous, Antonio Galloni
(4/2012). "The 2008 Barolo La Serra emerges from the glass with dark red fruit, tar, smoke, licorice, spices and new leather. Today the 2008 comes across as surprisingly dark and masculine. The high-toned floral notes that are typical of this site have been replaced by a much darker, brooding register filled with tar, incense and black fruit notes. The wine freshens up beautifully with time in the glass as the aromatics become a bit more expressive. Voerzio's 2008 La Serra is a huge and hugely promising wine. The firm tannins argue for at least a few more years in bottle. A hint of rose petal lingers on the intese finish."

Brovia "Rocche di Castiglione" Barolo 2011

95 Our Score
94 Vinous, Antonio Galloni
(3/2015) "The 2011 Barolo Rocche di Castiglione is sweet, floral and wonderfully expressive, all Brovia signatures. Silky tannins provide the backdrop as this sensual, polished Barolo shows off its class. Perfumed notes are woven throughout, but it is the wine's exceptional textural finesse that stands out most. Hints of hard candy, mint, cinnamon and succulent red cherries add the final shades of dimension. In 2011, the Rocche stands out for its total sense of class. Drinking window 2018 - 2036."

Elio Grasso "Gavarina Vigna Chiniera" Barolo 2011

94 James Suckling
94 Vinous, Antonio Galloni
(11/2014) "Grasso's 2011 Barolo Gavarini Vigna Chiniera captures the essence and personality of the year in its inviting, radiant personality. Bright red stone fruits, crushed rocks, pine, mint and flowers are all lifted and aromatically expressive in the glass. The Gavarini is already quite open and inviting. I imagine it will offer a wide window of pure drinking pleasure over the next 20 years or so. This is a striking Barolo from the Grasso family."

Deltetto "Metodo Classico" Brut NV

90+ Our Score
(6/2017) The Deltetto family has been making wine in Piedmont since the 1950's. In 2000, their love of bubbles took hold (can you blame them??) and they began making traditional method sparklers. The "Metodo Classico" Brut NV is the best value of them all!! Juicy pear, Honeycrisp apple, lemon curd, dried apricot, spice and a bit of toasty goodness are backed by a clean acidic backbone. This wine spends 36 months on its lees (as long as vintage Champagne) which gives it that nuanced brioche note and a gorgeous round mouthfeel.

Brovia "Brea Vigna Ca' Mia" Barolo 2011

95 Our Score
94 Vinous, Antonio Galloni
(3/2015) "Lavender, mint, sage, smoke, tobacco and plums are all laced together in the 2011 Barolo Brea Vigna Ca'Mia. As always, the Ca'Mia is a decidedly vertical Barolo built on a spine of persistent tannin, but in 2011 there is a little bit of added polish that serves to soften the contours. Tucked off the main road, Brea remains one of the least well-known vineyards in Serralunga. The 2011 is a great wine to start exploring some of the nuances of this site. A huge finish that brings together power and voluptuousness captures the pure radiance of the year. Drinking window 2019 - 2036."

G. D. Vajra "Bricco Delle Viole" Barolo 2012

94 Our Score
94 Wine Spectator
94 Vinous, Antonio Galloni
(11/2015) "The 2012 Barolo Bricco delle Viole is pure class. A decidedly sensual, inviting Bricco delle Viole, the 2012 fleshes out in the glass with an effortless, inviting personality that is impossible to resist. Deep red cherry and plum notes open up first, followed by the classic floral notes that are so typical of this site. In 2012, the Bricco delle Viole is quite forward and fruit-driven, with essentially none of the angular contours that are typical when the wine is young. All of that means the 2012 will deliver immense pleasure pretty much upon release. There is so much to like here. The only real question is whether the 2012 will shut down in bottle or not. This is another addictively delicious Barolo from the Vajra family. Drinking window: 2020 - 2037."

Ghiomo "Sansteu" Nebbiolo d'Alba 2010

92 Our Score
(8/2015) Ghiomo has been a staff favorite here for years now. This 2010 bottling of Nebbiolo shows exactly why. A blend of two single vineyards in Alba, located directly across the river from Barbaresco. The Santseau showcases the more feminine side of Nebbiolo, much like its cousin from across the river but at a fraction of what you would pay for this quality. Quintessential Nebbiolo, whispering aromas of tar, smoke, leather and dried cherries follow through on the palate vibrantly. Lovely tannins grip snugly and the acidity leaves you thirsting for more. Drink now with a good bit of air or enjoy for many years to come.
