Quintarelli Recioto della Valpolicella 2001

New low price! Regular Vin Chicago retail - $184.99!
Our Score
Recioto is the semi-sweet version of Amarone and is actually the style that predates the dry version. After the Corvina and Rondinella grapes have been dried on wooden racks for 4 months, they are pressed yielding small quantities of juice. The wine is then aged for at least 8 years in neutral barrel. This is an extremely special bottle and it will be perfect as a dessert.

Valentina Cubi "Morar" Amarone 2006

92 Wine Enthusiast
(12/2014) "Aromas of blue flower, blueberry, blackberry and exotic spice almost explode from the glass. The rich palate offers black plum, prune marinated in spirits, black pepper and nutmeg alongside velvety tannins. You'll also detect the warmth of alcohol, but it's supported by the fruit richness. Drink through 2021."

Buglioni "Il Bugiardo" Valpolicella Classico Superiore Ripasso 2012

91+ Our Score
(9/2016) The name "Il Bugiardo" translates as "The Liar." As the story goes, when the first vintage (2000) was released, an experienced sommelier exclaimed, "If this is not Amarone, it is a lying wine!" We understand this reaction. Tasted blind, this beauty would have fooled us, too. It is chock full of black cherry, raisin, bittersweet chocolate and gorgeous exotic spices. With a long, oh-so-satisfying finish, this 2012 Ripasso will appeal to hardcore Italian and Cabernet aficionados alike. For once, we don't mind a lyin' wine!

Bisol "Crede" Valdobiadene Brut Prosecco Superiore 2015

91 Vinous, Ian D'Agata
(11/2016) Pale straw. Crisp aromas and flavors of green apple, nectarine and jasmine have a noteworthy mineral edge. Finishes long and bright, with memorable focus and purity. Delightful Prosecco Brut; I have long believed Crede to be one of the best Brut Proseccos made by anyone. Interestingly it is not 100% Glera but mixes in a touch of Pinot Bianco and of Perera. Even though the vintage is not cleary indicated on the front label, this wine is made with grapes picked in the 2015 harvest.

Gini "Foscarin" Recioto di Soave 2010

Insane blow-out price on this delicious sweet wine from Gini!
89 Our Score
(6/2017) This Italian dessert wine, from the region of Soave in the Veneto, is produced from 100% Garganega grapes that are planted in volcanic soils of the "Col Foscarin" vineyard. Organically farmed, the grapes are are harvested and then stored in wood crates for about six months to dry out prior to being pressed. The wine then sees roughly 18 months in 228-Liter barriques (small oak casks) prior to being bottles. Look for dried fruit flavors of peach and apricot layered with exotic spice. Perfect pairing with light pastries or blue cheese and candied walnuts.

Roberto Anselmi "San Vincenzo" Veneto White 2016

89 Our Score
(6/2017) A solid follow-up to the "Top 100" 2015 vintage, this familiar white blends 80% Garganega with 10% each Chardonnay and Sauvignon Blanc. Though the wine is essentially a fine Soave, Anselmi elects not to use the Denominazione on the label, a preference many producers in the zone share. Wine and politics! Bottom line, this dry, creamy, orchard and stone fruited white is really tasty, especially with shellfish!

Zenato "Alanera" Veronese Rosso 2012

New low price! Regular Vin Chicago retail - $17.99!
91 Our Score
90 Wine Advocate
(12/2014) "The 2012 Alanera is a new edition to the Zenato portfolio and pays tribute to the family patron who developed the estate's vineyards. the label depicts three swallows that are symbols of the three main hills that dominate this corner of Valpolicella. This IGT blend is composed of 55% Corvina, 25% Rondinella, 10% Corvinone and 10% other grapes that are aged in part in oak, and in part in stainless steel. The bouquet shows good intensity with bright layers of spice, dark fruit and prune. Drink: 2015 - 2022."
