Beeslaar Stellenbosch Pinotage 2013

94 Our Score
(12/2016) Wine writer Jamie Goode calls this wine the "Grand Cru Burgundy" of Pinotage. It is, without a doubt, the greatest Pinotage we've ever had. Before you say, "So what," do yourself a favor and try a bottle. Only 400 cases were produced - talk about limited production! A very deep purple ruby color is followed by a beautiful and intensley flavorful nose with complex notes of smoke, coffee and blackberry. This is only the second vintage from Beeslaar and we are sure the press will get on these wines soon, so don't wait!

Glenelly "Lady May" Stellenbosch Cabernet Sauvignon 2010

90 Vinous, Stephen Tanzer
91 Wine Spectator
(2014) "Solidly built, with cassis bush, blackberry and fig fruit flavors rolled up with charcoal and bittersweet cocoa notes. The rugged tannins are integrated through the finish, lending this a muscular feel. A buried iron accent should emerge with some cellaring. Cabernet Sauvignon and Petit Verdot. Drink now through 2019. 250 cases imported."

Kershaw "Clonal Selection" Elgin Chardonnay 2014

95 Decanter
93 Vinous, Stephen Tanzer
93 Our Score
(5/2017) Using Dijon clones 76, 96 and 95, Master of Wine Richard Kershaw crafts this beauty in South Africa's Elgin Valley, where the cool climate is quite similar to that of southern Burgundy. Aged for 10 months in a combination of new, second and third year French oak barrels, with no malolactic fermentation, it leads off with powerful tropical fruit aromas along with a good dose of minerality. Juicy flavors of pear and apple dominate on the palate, where the texture lets you know you are drinking a special bottle of Chardonnay. Though it is influenced by Burgundy, the power is all South Africa - and that's a good thing. The finish is long and clean.

Paul Cluver Elgin Chardonnay 2013

92 Vinous, Stephen Tanzer
91 Wine Advocate
(10/2014) "Enormous, beautiful estate - tick. Talented winemaker - tick. Great quality wines - tick. Unbeatable value - tick. Wild leopards roaming at night - tick. Paul Cluver really is doing everything right. The 2013 Chardonnay comes from the estate's 15.32 hectares of vine planted between 1987 and 2004 on Bookveld shale. Picked March 1-19, it is fermented in French oak barrels of which 20% is new, with reduced batonnage compared to previous years as Andries wanted to avoid too much creaminess in the wine, especially because there was slightly more malolactic fermentation. It has a typically gorgeous bouquet with touches of lemon curd, patisserie, apricot blossom and shaved almond. The definition is superb. The palate is very well balanced with crisp acidity: touches of mango and lemon peel on the entry with more exotic notes such as passion fruit and pineapple coming at the finish. Perennially one of my favorite Chardonnays from South Africa, this is no different. Drink 2015-2020."

De Wetshof "Limestone Hill" Robertson Valley Chardonnay 2015

An unoaked South African Chardonnay that displays way more finesse than you'd ever expect for the price.
90 Our Score
91 Wine Advocate
(11/2015) "The 2015 Limestone Hill Chardonnay comes from seven- to 21-year-old vines cropped between five and eight tons per hectares. This unwooded Chardonnay has a pretty nose with apricot blossom, slate and almond-tinged bouquet that gently opens in the glass. The palate is fresh and poised with a fine bead of acidity, tensile with a focused dried apricot and lemon curd finish. This is an excellent Chardonnay from De Wetshof and at this price, you cannot go wrong. Drink 2016-2026."

Catherine Marshall Elgin Valley Sauvignon Blanc 2015

Our first time working with this producer. Very good stuff here!
91 Vinous, Stephen Tanzer
92 Our Score
(5/2017) Catherine crafts this from beauty from 96% Sauvignon Blanc and 4% barrel fermented Semillon grown on southeast facing vineyards in the Elgin Valley. Wild gooseberry and passion fruit aromas and flavors are perfectly balanced with a nice dose of stony minerality. Crisp and clean, this small South African producer really got it right here.
