Beeslaar Stellenbosch Pinotage 2013

94 Our Score
(12/2016) Wine writer Jamie Goode calls this wine the "Grand Cru Burgundy" of Pinotage. It is, without a doubt, the greatest Pinotage we've ever had. Before you say, "So what," do yourself a favor and try a bottle. Only 400 cases were produced - talk about limited production! A very deep purple ruby color is followed by a beautiful and intensley flavorful nose with complex notes of smoke, coffee and blackberry. This is only the second vintage from Beeslaar and we are sure the press will get on these wines soon, so don't wait!

Glenelly "Lady May" Stellenbosch Cabernet Sauvignon 2010

90 Vinous, Stephen Tanzer
91 Wine Spectator
(2014) "Solidly built, with cassis bush, blackberry and fig fruit flavors rolled up with charcoal and bittersweet cocoa notes. The rugged tannins are integrated through the finish, lending this a muscular feel. A buried iron accent should emerge with some cellaring. Cabernet Sauvignon and Petit Verdot. Drink now through 2019. 250 cases imported."

Kershaw "Clonal Selection" Elgin Chardonnay 2014

93 Vinous, Stephen Tanzer
95 Decanter
93 Our Score
(5/2017) Using Dijon clones 76, 96 and 95, Master of Wine Richard Kershaw crafts this beauty in South Africa's Elgin Valley, where the cool climate is quite similar to that of southern Burgundy. Aged for 10 months in a combination of new, second and third year French oak barrels, with no malolactic fermentation, it leads off with powerful tropical fruit aromas along with a good dose of minerality. Juicy flavors of pear and apple dominate on the palate, where the texture lets you know you are drinking a special bottle of Chardonnay. Though it is influenced by Burgundy, the power is all South Africa - and that's a good thing. The finish is long and clean.

Rustenberg Stellenbosch Chardonnay 2015

This toasty beauty earns a solid 90 from our tasting panel and a whopping 95 from Decanter!
95 Decanter
(11/2016) "An impressive Stellenbosch Chardonnay that wouldn't look out of place in Corton-Charlemagne with its complex leesy character. A mosaic of smoke and flint adds considerable interest to this charming wine. Plush aromas of buttery lemons, biscuits and honeydew melon translate well onto the palate. This wine combines power with restraint, richness with acidity, due in part to expertly handled oak. The intensity is palpable, and the flavour and aroma characteristics last a lifetime in the mouth."

Catherine Marshall Elgin Valley Sauvignon Blanc 2015

Our first time working with this producer. Very good stuff here!
91 Vinous, Stephen Tanzer
92 Our Score
(5/2017) Catherine crafts this from beauty from 96% Sauvignon Blanc and 4% barrel fermented Semillon grown on southeast facing vineyards in the Elgin Valley. Wild gooseberry and passion fruit aromas and flavors are perfectly balanced with a nice dose of stony minerality. Crisp and clean, this small South African producer really got it right here.

Graham Beck Western Cape Brut Rose NV

89 Vinous, Stephen Tanzer
(5/2017) "(disgorged Jan. 2017): Pale silver-pink. Lively, fruit-driven scents of strawberry, raspberry and flowers; I might have picked this blind as Pinot from the nose. Conveys a touch of sweetness but lovely acidity frames the wine's lively red berry and cherry fruit flavors. Not the most refined mousse but easy to drink, and with good backbone and acidity. Finishes with a touch of mineral firmness and very good length. A distinctly open-knit, rather commercial style but very good."

Graham Beck Western Cape Brut NV

89 Wine Advocate
(4/28/2017) "The NV Brut , which carries six grams per liter of residual sugar and was disgorged December 2016, is an equal blend of Chardonnay and Pinot Noir. It has a fresh lime and sea spray bouquet, well defined with a light honeysuckle aroma. The palate is well balanced with citrus peel on the entry. It might not be as persistent as other South African MCCs, but it is bounding with freshness and delivers a tangy orange-pith finish. How how many champagnes can you get change from with a twenty dollar bill?"

Buitenverwachting "Bayten" Constantia Sauvignon Blanc 2016

90 Vinous, Stephen Tanzer

(2/28/2017) "This is refined, with a steely spine that lets gooseberry, verbena and white peach flavors streak through. A hint of shortbread adds range and mouthfeel along the edges. The long finish has lovely cut. Drink now through 2019."
