Domaine Serene "Evenstad Reserve" Willamette Valley Pinot Noir 2012

(3/2015) "The 2012 Pinot Noir Evenstad Reserve was picked from late summer after one of the driest on record. There was better heat accumulation, according to Erik Kramer, but he does not regard it has a hot vintage. It was a low yield at around 1.7 and 1.8 tons per acre, partly due to a preflowering cluster removal. The skin-to-pulp ratio was very high and it was raised in 65% new oak over 16 months. It has a deep garnet color. The bouquet is in stark contrast with strawberry pastille and raspberry coulis, hints of iodine developing in the glass. The palate is medium-bodied with fleshy ripe red berry fruit interlaced with sea salt and white pepper. There is an undercurrent of gaminess to this 2012 that lends intrigue toward the finish that gently grips the mouth. Not as opulent as other 2012 Pinot Noirs that I have tasted, but clearly very well crafted by winemaker Erik Kramer and with a prosperous future ahead. Drink: 2016-2028."

Patricia Green Cellars "Mysterious" Pinot Noir 2014

94 Vinous, Josh Raynolds
92 Wine Advocate
(4/23/2016) "The 2014 Pinot Noir Mysterious comes from the Dundee Hills; it includes 55% whole cluster fermentation and was matured in 33% new oak barrels. It has a very perfumed bouquet with blueberry and redcurrant aromas given lift by the new oak, a touch of sous-bois developing in the glass. The palate is medium-bodied with supple tannin, quite sensual in the mouth thanks to its silkiness, very cohesive with cranberry, wild strawberry and a pinch of black pepper. It feels so lithe with a persistent finish that lasts 30 seconds. Like many to their 2014s, I love the purity here and it should give a decade's worth of pleasure, possibly more."

Beckham Estate Vineyard Chehalem Mountains Pinot Noir 2012

91 Our Score
(11/2015) Beckham Estate is a small, family owned vineyard and winery located in Willamette Valley's Chehalem Mountains. The 2012 vintage for Oregon is regarded as one of the greatest ever and Beckham has made one of their greatest wines in their short history. The 100% estate fruit was hand-harvested, hand-sorted, de-stemmed and whole berry fermented. The cool climate and high elevation of their vineyards yield a wine that is leaner and brighter compared to most, with strong flavors of earth, dried red flower petals and rocky earth that compliment the delicate cherry, strawberry and cranberry fruits. 15 months aging in French oak, 40% of which was new, adds further complexity in the form of baking spices and a round texture. Only 210 cases were bottled in March of 2014.

Patricia Green Cellars "Notorious" Pinot Noir 2014

94 Vinous, Josh Raynolds
93 Wine Advocate
(4/23/2016) "The 2014 Pinot Noir Notorious is a barrel selection from new oak barrels, each with four to seven gallons of settling lees added when they are filled. This consists of two barrels from Freedom Hill, two barrels from Balcombe Vineyard, and one barrel from Durant and Olenik Vineyard. Naturally, the new oak comes through quite strongly at this early stage, although it feels in sync with the fruit, quite polished and pure. The palate is medium-bodied with a smooth, velvety texture, the acidity very well judged, very harmonious and yet it is obvious that it will need several years for its personality to be revealed. This will be a seductive and doubtless quite sensual Pinot Noir with great pedigree."

Domaine Serene "Evenstad Reserve" Willamette Valley Pinot Noir 2011

91 Wine Enthusiast
(2/1/2015) "Light and elegantly crafted, this iconic release is the textbook example of well-made cool-vintage Oregon Pinot Noir. It's aromatic, floral and sillky. The tangy berry fruit is clean and ripe, though definitely on the lighter side. Pretty berry and cherry flavors are set against tart acids, with just a touch of milk chocolate from barrel aging."

Arterberry Maresh "Maresh Vineyard" Willamette Valley Pinot Noir 2014

95 Wine Advocate
(6/2016) "The 2014 Maresh Vineyard Pinot Noir has a beautiful bouquet with wonderful precision. The vine age does show through here (44-years-old now) with crisp detailed red berry fruit that just exudes Pinoté. The palate is medium-bodied with fine tannin, very well-judged acidity, touches of truffle and undergrowth tincturing the red berry fruit that fans out wonderfully towards the long and satisfying finish. This is a great Pinot Noir from an estate that seems to have thrived in 2014. Drink: 2018 - 2035."

Patricia Green Cellars "Etzel" Estate Willamette Valley Ribbon Ridge Pinot Noir 2013

92 Vinous, Josh Raynolds
94 Our Score
(10/2015) Harvested from her estate vineyards, specifically sitting on a parcel bordering vineyards owned by Beaux Freres vigneron Mike Etzel. The wine is an hommage to Mike, whom Patty holds in very high regard. She proclaims: "This wine stands out in our line of 2013 Pinot Noirs much like Mike would stand out at a convention of boring people." We were blown away by the complexity and complete and total elegance of this wine. There are loads of youthful flavors here, including sweet pomegranate, cherry, sage, incense, brush fire, talc, rose, cocoa, wood spice and more. Though the tannins are intense, it wine remains quite approachable. Remarkably, the alcohol is a a reserved 12.5%! It will continue to develop for another 5 to 10 years - and likely drink well for many years beyond that.

Beaux Freres Willamette Valley Pinot Noir 2014

New release of this Oregon favorite from proprietors Robert Parker, Michael Etzel and Robert Roy. From the outstanding 2014 vintage. Grab some now before the ratings come out!
92 Vinous, Josh Raynolds
(12/2016) "Bright ruby-red. Suave, oak-spiced aromas of ripe dark berries, cherry cola and minerals carry a zesty floral overtone. Silky and expansive on the palate, offering juicy black raspberry, cola and lavender pastille flavors plus hints of mocha and spicecake. Shows impressive clarity and spicy lift on a very long, fruit-driven finish that's shaped by even, slow-mounting tannins."

Beaux Freres Willamette Valley Pinot Noir 2013

93 Our Score
92 Wine Spectator
91 Vinous, Josh Raynolds
(10/2015) "Brilliant red. Heady, spice-accented aromas of fresh red berries and flowers, along with hints of white pepper and underbrush. Fresh, precise and appealingly sweet, with lively raspberry and mulberry flavors picking up a candied rose quality with air. Shows very good tenacity and lift on the persistent finish, which is given shape by silky, fine-grained tannins."
