Clos i Terrasses "Clos Erasmus" Priorat 2014

97 Wine Advocate
(10/28/2016) "There is a little more Syrah in the blend of the 2014 Clos Erasmus, where it reached around 30% to complement the majority of Garnacha. As is the norm, the wine matured for some 18 months before bottling, with most of the volume in French oak barrels, 40% of which are renewed each vintage, but there are also one or two amphorae. I tasted it next to the 2013 and as the 2013 required so much attention, it took some time to get to the 2014. It showed a bit shy at first, but when I finally came back to it, I found that it had really blossomed with a mixture of violets, ground, smoky meat and black raspberries. The slight increase in Syrah was noticeable, but it somehow also seemed to increase the voice of the slate in the bottle. The palate is medium to full-bodied with wonderful balance and elegance combined with inner strength. This is simply terrific. 3,000 bottles were filled at the end of May 2016. Drink Date: 2016 - 2025."

Domaine Gerard Seguin "Vieilles Vignes" Gevrey Chambertin 2014

93 Our Score
(3/2017) This young Gevrey-Chambertin explodes from the glass with complex notes of cassis, sweet cherry, bergamot, citrus tea and wood spice. Aged in 50% new oak, this smartly priced Burgundy offers a dense palate with noticeable earth, medium-plus tannins and a high pitched finish. Drinkable now with a good decanting!

Peirson Meyer "Miller Vineyard" Russian River Valley Pinot Noir 2014

94 Wine Advocate
(10/28/2016) "Two veteran winemakers from the Northern California wine scene - Peirson and Meyer have their own set of wines ranging in production from a low of 45 cases to a high of 500 cases. Most of these are in the 200- to 300- case range. ...The 2014 Pinot Noir Miller Vineyard was treated similarly, but is a much lighter color as it is from 100% Dijon clone 828. This has the forest floor, rose petals, sweet strawberry and cherry notes, but the killer aromatics is what gives this wine sensational appeal. It is medium-bodied, fleshy and should be drunk over the next 5-6 years to take advantage of the exceptional fragrance it offers."

Domaine Eric Forest "Les Crays" Pouilly Fuisse 2014

92+ Our Score
(3//2017) Wow! This serious and delicious single-site Chardonnay could easily be mistaken for a $50 Puligny-Montrachet. An avalanche of complex flavors reveal themselves with every sip, including lime creme, spiced pear, tangerine, vanilla and toast. The structure is beautiful, with interwoven acidity quietly balancing the density and length. This is serious white Burgundy!

Regis Bouvier "Clos du Roy" Marsannay 2014

This was the top bottling in a Wine Spectator article titled "10 Masterful Marsannays." An extraordinary showing for a sub-$30 Burgundy!
93 Wine Spectator
(2/16/2017) "A taut, austere style, with a structure like a steel spring, waiting to release the cherry, currant and mineral flavors. Shows fine purity and elegance, presenting a long, juicy aftertaste. Best from 2019 through 2035. 264 cases imported."

Stolpman Estate Grown Syrah 2014

93 Wine Enthusiast
91 Vinous, Antonio Galloni
(9/2016) "The 2014 Syrah Estate is surprisingly succulent for a young Stolpman Syrah, which Peter Stolpman attributes to warmer nights and softer extractions. Dark cherry, plum, mocha and dark spices are fused together in a deep, yet mid-weight, highly expressive Ballard Canyon Syrah. The whole clusters are felt but also very nicely balanced. If this is the future direction for Stolpman, all I can say is the winery has made huge strides in recent years."

Varner "El Camino" Santa Barbara County Chardonnay 2014

Typical retail is $25. As we went to press, our price beat every single online listing!
92 Vinous, Antonio Galloni
(6/2016) "Despite its very reasonable price, the 2014 Chardonnay El Camino Vineyard delivers serious intensity, richness and nuance. Broad, ample and phenolic, the 2015 exudes all the classic Varner signatures, structure being the most obvious of these. Yellow orchard fruit, mint, candied lemon, chamomile and lightly honeyed notes are front and center. This is one of the most singular Santa Barbara Chardonnays readers will come across. The style and palate weight is more than a little reminiscent of the wines the Varners made in the Santa Cruz Mountains. The 2014 was fermented in steel and aged in a combination of puncheon (25%) and steel, with blocked malo. This is a very serious Chardonnay for $25."

Baileyana "Firepeak" Edna Valley Chardonnay 2014

90 Our Score
93 Wine Enthusiast
(3/2017) "Burgundy-raised vintner Christian Roguenant gets to show his stuff in this line of Firepeak wines. Wet cement, honeysuckle, crisp Asian pear and the slightest hints of tropicality show on the nose, while the palate offers yellow grapefruit, lemon skins, squeezed lime and lime-blossom flavors, wrapped around nervy tension."

Mas d'En Compte "Black Slate" Porrera Priorat 2014

92 Wine Advocate
(10/28/2016) "Part of the collection from different villages from Priorat, Cellar Cal Pla produced a 2014 Black Slate Porrera, which is a blend of 50% Garnacha with 40% Cariñena and the rest Cabernet Sauvignon. It is a village wine from 20- to 30-year-old vines on slate soils fermented in stainless steel and concrete vats and matured in 225- and 300-liter oak barrels (80% French oak, 20% Hungarian) for one year. The nose is beautiful, combining violets, a hint of beef blood, something ashy and an organic, soil note, developing a smoky bacon twist with time in the glass. The palate shows good integration of the oak, better than in the majority of wines from this winery. Beautiful flowers appear with time and made me go back to the glass again and again. Drink Date: 2016 - 2020."
