Amapola Creek "Amapola Creek" Sonoma Cabernet Sauvignon 2013

96 Wine Advocate
(3/2016) "Arrowood deserves a lot more credit than he often gets for his Cabernet Sauvignons, which are long-lived. Some of the early Chateau St. Jean Cabernet Sauvignons have stood the test of time, and those made under the Arrowood label, especially his Reserves, are 30+ year wines at the minimum. The 2013 Cabernet Sauvignon Estate, which is 94% Cabernet Sauvignon and 6% Petit Verdot, is brilliant. Notes of graphite, creme de cassis, blueberry and blackberry along with some espresso are all present in this dense, full-bodied wine with great fruit, beautiful purity and moderately high tannins. There are just under 1,600 cases. This wine ideally needs another 2-3 years of bottle age and should drink well for 25-30 years."

Peay Vineyards Sonoma Coast Pinot Noir 2015

93 Vinous, Antonio Galloni
(1/2017) "The 2015 Pinot Noir (Sonoma Coast) is a terrific appellation level wine from Peay. Bright red stone fruit, blood orange, tobacco, mint and orange peel give the wine its distinctive upper register. Finessed and light on its feet, the 2015 exudes class. This is a fabulous showing and an overachiever for the year. Drinking window: 2018 - 2025."

Ceretto Barolo 2012

92 Wine Advocate
93 James Suckling
93 Wine Spectator
(4/30/2017) "The new oak lends smoky, toasty nuances to the core of cherry and strawberry fruit, along with accents of vanilla. Sleek and focused, with dusty tannins lining the extended finish. Shows finesse and potential, but needs time. Best from 2022 through 2039."

Talley Vineyards "Rosemary's Vineyard" Arroyo Grande Valley Chardonnay 2014

94 Vinous, Josh Raynolds
93 Wine Advocate
(8/2016) "A sensational Chardonnay from one of the great vineyards in the Central Coast is the 2014 Chardonnay Estate Rosemary's Vineyard (this site is the coolest in the lineup). It offers classic Chardonnay notes of apple blossom, salt block, buttered citrus and hints of charcoal to go with building richness and depth on the palate, integrated acidity and a great finish. Drink this complete, balanced and lengthy beauty over the coming 5-6 years, although it will keep longer if well stored."

Kershaw "Clonal Selection" Elgin Chardonnay 2014

93 Vinous, Stephen Tanzer
95 Decanter
93 Our Score
(5/2017) Using Dijon clones 76, 96 and 95, Master of Wine Richard Kershaw crafts this beauty in South Africa's Elgin Valley, where the cool climate is quite similar to that of southern Burgundy. Aged for 10 months in a combination of new, second and third year French oak barrels, with no malolactic fermentation, it leads off with powerful tropical fruit aromas along with a good dose of minerality. Juicy flavors of pear and apple dominate on the palate, where the texture lets you know you are drinking a special bottle of Chardonnay. Though it is influenced by Burgundy, the power is all South Africa - and that's a good thing. The finish is long and clean.

Remelluri Rioja Reserva 2010

95 James Suckling
93 Wine Advocate
(2/4/2015) "A blend of the reds Tempranillo, Garnacha, Graciano and the whites Viura and Malvasia Riojana, it fermented with indigenous yeasts in a combination of stainless steel and oak vats then matured in French oak barrels for 17 months. The nose has earthy aromas and notes of ripe orange peel giving old-style character to the wine marked by very well-integrated oak and an obvious Rioja character. There are cherries, plums and spices with licorice and ink aromas. The day after, it has more strawberries with very good freshness, so the evolution in bottle should be good. The palate is medium-bodied with grainy tannins and good acidity that ends with sweet fruit flavors and something earthy, very pleasant and easy to drink. It grows on you. Drink 2014 - 2024."

Freemark Abbey Napa Valley Cabernet Sauvignon 2012

This stuff is drinking great! If you're looking for a classic bottle of Napa Cab at a fair price, this is it!
93 Wine Advocate
(12/2015) "An absolutely fabulous value is the 2012 Cabernet Sauvignon Napa. This comes from multiple sources and there are 46,000+ cases of it. A stunning Cabernet Sauvignon and a classic example of Napa viticulture, this blend of 75.5% Cabernet Sauvignon and the rest Merlot, Cabernet Franc, Petit Verdot and Malbec, was aged just over two years in oak. Loads of sweet blackcurrant fruit, cocoa, a touch of toast, earth, and baking spice are all present in this wine that has terrific fruit on the attack and mid-palate, a full-bodied mouthfeel, no hard edges and a luscious, opulent, gorgeously pure style. Drink it over the next 10-15 years. Although I wouldn't be surprised to see it last longer. For old-time reader/subscribers, this might be the modern-day equivalent of the great 1974 Souverain Vintage Selection that I recommended back in the late 1970s and is still going strong today. Drink: 2016 - 2031"

Chateau Saint Cosme Gigondas 2014

92 Wine Spectator
(9/30/2016) "Sports solid, charcoal-edged grip from the get-go, with roasted alder and savory notes forming a robust frame around the chewy-edged currant, plum and bitter cherry paste flavors. The long, dark, smoldering finish lets the woodsy and herb accents stride through. Shows the cool-weather profile of the vintage. Best from 2018 through 2024."

Charles Ellner "Carte Blanche" Brut Champagne NV

91 Wine Spectator
(7/31/2016) "Austere in structure at first, with rapier acidity. The flavors of black currant, slivered almond, white peach and candied lemon peel are intense and tightly knit, expanding on the palate and lingering on the vibrant, spiced finish. Drink now through 2019. 300 cases imported."
