Michel Gassier "Lou Coucardie" Costieres de Nimes Rouge 2011

Big, soft and totally beautiful. Lookup "silky" in the dictionary and you'll find a picture of the 2011 Lou Coucardie!

(12/2013) "The leading estate in the potential rich Costieres de Nimes region, these knockout wines are made by the talented Michel Gassier, who is leading the way in this appellation and showing what's possible when you focus on quality. Both the 2011s (which are as good, if not better than his 2010s) and 2012s are incredibly strong here. The richest and most concentrated cuvee, the 2011 Costieres De Nimes Lou Coucardie, which was bottled earlier in the year, offers up aromas and flavors of ripe black fruits, chocolate, graphite, licorice and hints of smoked herbs. A blend of 48% Mourvedre, 30% Grenache and 22% Syrah that spent 12-18 months in French oak, it is a serious, layered and textured effort that was hard to spit. While hard to resist now, it should have a broad drink window as well."

Domaine de la Patience "Nemausa" Costieres de Nimes Rouge 2013

90 Our Score
(7/2016) This family-operated winery values the idea of terroir, naming their estate "La Patience" after a wild herb that grows around the property. A Grenache/Syrah/Mourvedre blend, the Nemausa is vinified in concrete tanks using indigenous yeast. Their hands-off approach has resulted in a deliciously concentrated red that is meaty and smoky with herbaceous notes of garrigue, pepper and spice along with both red and black fruit. An ideal pairing with grilled meats.

Chateau Cornut "Tradition" Costieres de Nimes Rouge 2015

87+ Our Score
(3/2017) Costieres de Nimes is a region on the Rhone/Languedoc border, just southwest of Avignon. Wines here are similar in style to Cotes-du-Rhone, as demonstrated by this equal parts blend of Syrah and Grenache. With a rustic grip, this authentic Southern Rhone red shows hints of dark red berries, smoke, green herbs and dried earth. Perfect with burgers or even taco night!

(5/2016) "Deeper pink in color, the 2015 Costieres de Nimes Rose de Carlot offers more black cherry, hard candy and crushed flower notes in a medium-bodied, rich, nicely textured package. Close in style to a lighter Tavel, it has tons of charm and will drink well for 6-12 months."
