Domaine Auguste Clape Cotes du Rhone Rouge 2014

The famed Cornas producer also makes a Cotes du Rhone! This ain't no bistro juice, however. This is 100% Syrah, including some young vine Cornas. This is a chance to drink Clape for less than 40 bucks. Incredibly, this wine is as allocated as the Cornas!
91 Vinous, Josh Raynolds
(3/2016) "Opaque ruby. Deep aromas of red berry compote, licorice, olive and cracked pepper, and a subtle floral nuance that builds with air. Concentrated but energetic, offering sappy black raspberry and spicecake flavors lifted by juicy acidity and a smoky mineral note. Closes with resonating red fruit character, very good length and smooth, fully integrated tannins. This wine shows the elegant side of northern Rhône Syrah to very nice effect."

Xavier Vignon "Cuvee SM" Cotes du Rhone MV

A multi-vintage blend from Xavier Vignon, the master of Chateauneuf-du-Pape!

(10/30/2014) "The NV Côtes du Rhône S.M. is thrilling stuff. Made from equal parts Grenache and Syrah and aged half in concrete and half in barrel, it offers a full-bodied, voluptuous and decadent style to go with overflowing notes of plum and darker fruits, licorice and violets. Gorgeous on all counts, it's a shockingly good Côtes du Rhône to drink over the coming 4-6 years, although I wouldn't be surprised to see it last even longer."

J.L. Chave Selection "Mon Coeur" Cotes du Rhone Rouge 2014

91 Our Score
(3/2016) This ripe 50/50 blend of Grenache (from higher altitude vineyards in the northern part of the southern Rhone) and spicy Syrah offers fantastic complexity and depth. Beautiful aromas and flavors of red and black fruits lead to a perfect marriage of acidity and tannin structure on the finish. What a great Côtes du Rhône!

Domaine Gramenon "Poignee de Raisins" Cotes du Rhone Rouge 2014

Median online retail is $23. We've made a special by and are blowing it out for $16.99!
91 Our Score
(12/2015) Time and again, importer Kermit Lynch delivers wines that are both supremely delicious and convey a remarkable sense of place. Fermented and aged in cement, this biodynamically produced red has no added sulfur, no fining, no filtration and no additional yeasts or enzymes. An intensely electric ruby purple color, it offers profound floral aromas. The palate unfolds a delicious array of juicy fresh raspberry, wild strawberry and red currant flavors. This initial cavalcade is promptly followed by white pepper, limestone, clay and earth tones. There's no shortage of energy and lift in this brilliantly focused wine. Perfect with duck or roast chicken.

Domaine La Remejeanne "Les Chevrefeuilles" Cotes du Rhone Rouge 2012

90 Our Score
(12/2014) A richly structured blend of 70% Syrah and 10% each Grenache, Carignan and Marselan. Bold Syrah flavors of red and black berries dominate on the palate along with a peppery spice. Good acidity and a sub-14% alcohol level make this a classic Cotes-du-Rhone.

Sappy, focused and energetic on the palate, offering gently sweet red fruit and peppery spice flavors that deepen as the wine opens up. Juicy acidity adds spine and back-end cut, and supple tannins frame a long, refreshingly spicy finish."

Domaine de la Janasse "Reserve" Cotes du Rhone Rouge 2014

90 Our Score
(11/2016) The Sabon family ages this Reserve bottling in large barrels known as foudres. With flavors of black pepper, coffee, strawberry, raspberry, fresh herbs and a grainy palate, this is an old school Côtes du Rhône. This Eric Solomon import is a blend of Grenache, Syrah, Mourvedre, Carignan and Cinsault.

(6/2016) "Green-tinged straw. Mineral-laced pear and melon aromas show good clarity and a suave floral nuance. Broad, sappy and focused on the palate, offering juicy pit fruit and honeydew flavors braced and lifted by a citrus pith element. The floral note comes back on the finish, which lingers with good, mineral-driven tenacity."
