Domaine Auguste Clape Cotes du Rhone Rouge 2014

The famed Cornas producer also makes a Cotes du Rhone! This ain't no bistro juice, however. This is 100% Syrah, including some young vine Cornas. This is a chance to drink Clape for less than 40 bucks. Incredibly, this wine is as allocated as the Cornas!
91 Vinous, Josh Raynolds
(3/2016) "Opaque ruby. Deep aromas of red berry compote, licorice, olive and cracked pepper, and a subtle floral nuance that builds with air. Concentrated but energetic, offering sappy black raspberry and spicecake flavors lifted by juicy acidity and a smoky mineral note. Closes with resonating red fruit character, very good length and smooth, fully integrated tannins. This wine shows the elegant side of northern Rhône Syrah to very nice effect."

Xavier Vignon "Cuvee SM" Cotes du Rhone MV

A multi-vintage blend from Xavier Vignon, the master of Chateauneuf-du-Pape!

(10/30/2014) "The NV Côtes du Rhône S.M. is thrilling stuff. Made from equal parts Grenache and Syrah and aged half in concrete and half in barrel, it offers a full-bodied, voluptuous and decadent style to go with overflowing notes of plum and darker fruits, licorice and violets. Gorgeous on all counts, it's a shockingly good Côtes du Rhône to drink over the coming 4-6 years, although I wouldn't be surprised to see it last even longer."

Domaine du Gour de Chaule "Cuvee de la Vigneronne" Cotes du Rhone Rouge 2015

91 Our Score
(5/2017) This is a seriously kickin' Cotes du Rhone, imported by the great Neal Rosenthal! Mainly Grenache, the vines are almost exclusively from the village of Vacqueyras. This is old school in style, as the slightly garnet-colered edge suggests. Black pepper and ripe red fruits, with a red rock mineral core, medium-plus acidity and tannin, this classic bottling tastes like a $25 Gigondas. Great juice, and drinkable for the next 5-7 years!

J.L. Chave Selection "Mon Coeur" Cotes du Rhone Rouge 2014

91 Our Score
(3/2016) This ripe 50/50 blend of Grenache (from higher altitude vineyards in the northern part of the southern Rhone) and spicy Syrah offers fantastic complexity and depth. Beautiful aromas and flavors of red and black fruits lead to a perfect marriage of acidity and tannin structure on the finish. What a great Côtes du Rhône!

(12/2015) Time and again, importer Kermit Lynch delivers wines that are both supremely delicious and convey a remarkable sense of place. Fermented and aged in cement, this biodynamically produced red has no added sulfur, no fining, no filtration and no additional yeasts or enzymes. An intensely electric ruby purple color, it offers profound floral aromas. The palate unfolds a delicious array of juicy fresh raspberry, wild strawberry and red currant flavors. This initial cavalcade is promptly followed by white pepper, limestone, clay and earth tones. There's no shortage of energy and lift in this brilliantly focused wine. Perfect with duck or roast chicken.

Domaine de la Mordoree "La Dame Rousse" Cotes-du-Rhone Rose 2016

90 Our Score
A blend of 50% Grenache, 30% Syrah and 20% Cinsault, this "La Dame Rousse" bottling from Mordorée is year-in and year-out our most in-demand Côtes-du-Rhône Rosé. Deeper in color, weightier, and more powerful than most French Rosés, it is round and rich in the mouth, with deep red fruit tones, hints of pepper and roasted herbs, all balanced by a brisk, bright, lingering finish. This is a perfect "cocktail" Rosé, as it is generous enough to serve by itself, and will effortlessly stand up to all sorts of grilled meat, fish, or chicken.

Domaine La Remejeanne "Les Chevrefeuilles" Cotes du Rhone Rouge 2012

90 Our Score
(12/2014) A richly structured blend of 70% Syrah and 10% each Grenache, Carignan and Marselan. Bold Syrah flavors of red and black berries dominate on the palate along with a peppery spice. Good acidity and a sub-14% alcohol level make this a classic Cotes-du-Rhone.
