E.Guigal Ermitage "Ex Voto" Rouge 2009

97 Wine Spectator

(12/2013) "Starting out and one of the most prodigious wines in the vintage, the 2009 Ermitage Ex-Voto is locked and loaded, with a massive amount of raw material. Giving up thrilling amounts of plum, licorice, toasted spice and powdered rock-like minerality, it hits the palate with a muscular, full-bodied texture, big tannin and a blockbuster finish. Serious on all accounts, this incredible effort has the fruit and texture to dish out plenty of enjoyment even now, yet really needs short-term cellaring. Two to three decades of evolution should not be out of the question."

Cave de Tain "Gambert de Loche" Hermitage Rouge 2009

(3/2014) "Inky ruby. Deeply pitched dark fruit liqueur, olive and smoky Indian spice aromas are brightened by a zesty mineral quality. Palate-coating blackberry and blueberry flavors pick up an exotic floral nuance with air and are enlivened by juicy acidity. Finishes smooth, broad and long, with subtle vanilla and cola notes and strong mineral cut. There's lots going on here now but I'll bet that a few more years of patience will be rewarded." 92/100 - Wine Spectator. (2/2012) "A ripe, muscular, mouthfilling style, with loads of blackberry, fig and boysenberry pâte de fruit flavors backed by juicy briar, sweet spice and dark melted licorice snap notes. This has ample toast, but very solid fruit at the core. Best from 2013 through 2018. 500 cases made."
