Uccelliera Rosso di Montalcino 2014

90+ Our Score
(5/2016) Rosso di Montalcino remains one of the greatest values in the wine world, but relatively unknown to many oenophiles. Imagine if every great $45-$75 Napa Cabernet producer also made a "baby brother" version of their wine and sold it for under $20. That is basically what Rosso di Montalcino is, and we accordingly call it "Baby Brunello"! Like its older sibling it is crafted from pure Sangiovese - but designed to be more approachable in its youth. This 2014 from Uccelliera is medium-bodied with a silky soft texture. Complex flavors of fresh and dried cherry and cranberry abound, followed by coffee bean, dried herbs and gritty red earth. It finishes with pour-me-another-glass balancing tension. Get yours before the secret is out!

90 Our Score
(10/2016) This gorgeous Rosso di Montalicino (100% Sangiovese) shows off a distinctive cherry and cranberry core of fruit surrounded by beautiful secondary aromas of licorice, cured salami, fennel, dried herbs and rocky earth. The palate is soft, silky and juicy with bright acidity and a touch of warm richness that coats the mouth. Pair this delicious Tuscan Rosso with hearty pastas or roasted meats.

Caprili Rosso di Montalcino 2014

90 James Suckling
89+ Our Score
(2/2017) While the small estate of Caprili makes outstanding Brunello, they also do a great job with this ready-to-drink Rosso di Montalcino. Bright with cassis and black cherry fruits leading the dense mouthfeel, this Chianti-like red is drinkable by itself or with your favorite pizza take out!
