Kir-Yianni "Ramnista" Xinomavro 2011

Totally gorgeous! This is a must-try wine.

(6/10/2016) "A Xinomavro aged for 12 months in 30% new and 70% used French oak. It comes in at 13.4% alcohol. This 2011 has opened up just a bit, though, since I first saw it. We can be more confident now in where it is going. Classic, somewhat rustic and rather old school, this shows less oak than some (beginning in 2009, the toast of the oak was reduced) and better purity of fruit. Then, it adds all that unbridled power. And more power. More or less impossible to approach now, the hope is that it might settle down by around 2021. Certainly, this issue's vertical demonstrates that Ramnista has no problem lasting for 30+ years or so in a fine vintage, so don't feel like you have to rush in. It should hold indefinitely. Let's just say that this is a wine you buy in quantity, sample periodically and lay down for the longer haul. It will ultimately provide many rewards, but it's not going to be your "drink-me-now" companion."
