Mark Herold Wines "Herold" Napa Valley Cabernet Sauvignon 2010

95 Wine Advocate
"The 2010 Cabernet Sauvignon Herold, 100% Cabernet Sauvignon largely from the Stagecoach Vineyard in Coombsville, is a spectacular effort. It boasts copious notes of licorice, charcoal, burning embers, graphite, blackberries and cassis in a full-bodied, full throttle, pedal-to-the-metal, muscular, intense personality. The tannins are soft and the wine is rich as well as convincing. Drink it over the next 12-15 years."

92 Wine Spectator
"Shows a good touch of bottle age and a notably oaky presence, marked by dill, vanilla bean and coconut notes wrapped around a rich, authoritative, full-bodied core of dark berry, licorice, dusty, loamy earth and espresso. Drink now through 2028."

Phelps "Insignia" Napa Valley Proprietary Red 2013

Top 100 of 2016 - Wine & Spirits

98+ Wine Advocate
(10/28/2016) "The 2013 Insignia (their 40th vintage) is a blend of 88% Cabernet Sauvignon, 5% Petit Verdot, and the rest Merlot, Malbec and Cabernet Franc. This wine is aged 24 months in 100% new French oak barrels, and the production can vary from just over 10,000 cases to nearly 20,000 cases in a very abundant vintage. There were 12,300 cases produced in 2013, and this vintage of Insignia is certainly going to turn out to be one of the great ones. The wine offers a stunning inky blue/purple color, a gorgeous nose of blueberry and blackberry liqueur, pen ink, graphite, new saddle leather and barrique. The wine has fabulous concentration, a full-bodied, multi-layered mouthfeel, and tremendous finish with moderate tannin. It's interesting to note that the Phelps winemaking staff had been gradually reducing the amount of Merlot in this wine over recent vintages. The 2013 should hit its peak in 5-7 years and last for 35-50."

Chappellet "Pritchard Hill" Napa Valley Cabernet Sauvignon 2013

97 James Suckling
98+ Wine Advocate
(12/21/2015) "The flagship wine, the 2013 Cabernet Sauvignon Pritchard Hill is a blend of 83% Cabernet Sauvignon, 8% Malbec, 6% Cabernet Franc and the rest Petit Verdot aged 22 months in 100% new French oak. This is a 40- to 50-year wine and simply compelling. Inky bluish/purple with a stunning nose of white flowers, crushed rock, blueberry, black raspberry and cassis, this is a great, great effort in this vintage, which is not that surprising, but this youthful wine still seems in its infancy and certainly has huge upside to it. It's very deep and full-bodied, but still coiled very tight and restrained, this should turn out to be a tour de force and a great offering in 2013. Don't touch it for another 5-7 years."

Phelps "Insignia" Napa Valley Proprietary Red 2012

96 Wine Advocate
97 James Suckling
96 Vinous, Antonio Galloni
(10/2015) "Just bottled, the 2012 Insignia is rich, voluptuous and racy to the core. Raspberry jam, mocha, wild flowers, spices and espresso are laced together in a sensual, enveloping Insignia that should drink well with minimal cellaring. I imagine the 2012 will reward readers with a long drinking window of pure pleasure. Today, it is a total knock-out."

Spottswoode Napa Valley Cabernet Sauvignon 2012

98 James Suckling
95 Vinous, Antonio Galloni
96+ Wine Advocate
(10/2014) "The opaque purple-hued 2012 Cabernet Sauvignon exhibits a glorious bouquet of crème de cassis, spring flowers, a Pauillac-like lead pencil note, and background new oak. The overall impression is one of restraint combined with richness. This full-bodied effort possesses good acidity and ripe tannin. It has been crafted for the long-term. The hallmarks of great Spottswoode wines are their purity and elegance combined with serious power. The 2012 has that in abundance. This youthful, reserved Cabernet will benefit from 3-5 years of cellaring, and will keep for two decades or more."

Caymus "Special Selection" Napa Valley Cabernet Sauvignon 2013

Wine #44 - Wine Spectator's Top 100 Wines of 2016!
95 Wine Spectator
(10/15/2016) "This zeroes in on a rich, hedonistic core of wild berry, blackberry, plum and currant flavors, with a graceful, elegant mouthfeel and supple, caressing tannins. The long and powerful yet refined aftertaste keeps reverberating fruit generosity while maintaining Cabernet's strength of personality. Drink now through 2030."

Snowden "Brothers Vineyard" Napa Valley Cabernet Sauvignon 2013

95 Wine Advocate
94+ Vinous, Antonio Galloni
(9/2015) "Explosive and powerful to the core, the 2013 Cabernet Sauvignon The Brothers presents dark tonalities of fruit along with distinctly savory and mineral notes. Grilled herbs, smoke, lavender and pencil shavings add nuance. The Brothers is dark, powerful and brooding in style, not to mention more structured than the Ricos Cabernet, Accordingly, it needs a few years to fully come together. Snowden fans will see a few changes in the lineup this year. The flagship Reserve Cabernet has been replaced by series of single-vineyard wines from Snowden's estate vineyard, which sits on the border of the St. Helena and Rutherford AVAs, adjacent to Hall's Sacrashe vineyard (from which Sloan was carved out). Diana Snowden is also releasing small amounts of Cabernet Franc and Petit Verdot bottlings. As usual, I caught up with Diana Snowden between her harvests in Napa Valley and Burgundy, where she runs Domaine Dujac with her husband Jeremy Seysses. The 2013 here are juicy and forward, with a bit more early appeal than most wines of the vintage."

Orin Swift "Papillon" Napa Valley Red 2012

Papillon is Dave Phinney's Bordeaux blend. Over the past few vintages, it has been one of the quickest Orin Swift wines to sell out. The 2010 and 2011 vintages earned Wine Spectator scores of 92 and 93 points. The Wine Advocate just released the following 93 point review for the 2012!
93 Wine Advocate
(12/2014) "The 2012 Proprietary Red Papillon is composed of Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, Petit Verdot, Malbec and Cabernet Franc. Another big-time winner, it was sourced from multiple AVAs, including Oakville, St. Helena, Howell Mountain and Rutherford. Gorgeous aromas of white chocolate, blackberries, blackcurrants, blue fruits and toasty oak are followed by a full-bodied, layered wine that builds incrementally. The tannins are sweet and well-integrated, and the acidity is sufficient for definition. It is a savory, hedonistic as well as intellectually pleasing wine to enjoy over the next decade or more."

Spottswoode Napa Valley Cabernet Sauvignon 2011

94 Vinous, Antonio Galloni
(11/2013) "Spottswoode's 2011 Cabernet Sauvignon is beautiful, immediate and impeccable in its balance. The 2011 doesn't have the layered, explosive personality of some of the iconic vintages, but it isn't too far off that level. Spottswoode fans should drink the 2011 relatively early, while some of the more powerful, structured vintages age. I will not be surprised if the 2011 turns out to be one of the jewels of this vintage. The medium-bodied structure argues for early drinking, but there is more than enough energy and acidity to suggest the 2011 will age gracefully for a number of years. Incidentally, the 2011 is the first Spottswoode Cabernet under 14% in a decade. Once again, the winemaking team led by Aron Weinkauf has done a fabulous job. The 2011 is 89% Cabernet Sauvignon, 8% Cabernet Franc and 3% Petite Verdot."
