Clos i Terrasses "Clos Erasmus" Priorat 2014

97 Wine Advocate
(10/28/2016) "There is a little more Syrah in the blend of the 2014 Clos Erasmus, where it reached around 30% to complement the majority of Garnacha. As is the norm, the wine matured for some 18 months before bottling, with most of the volume in French oak barrels, 40% of which are renewed each vintage, but there are also one or two amphorae. I tasted it next to the 2013 and as the 2013 required so much attention, it took some time to get to the 2014. It showed a bit shy at first, but when I finally came back to it, I found that it had really blossomed with a mixture of violets, ground, smoky meat and black raspberries. The slight increase in Syrah was noticeable, but it somehow also seemed to increase the voice of the slate in the bottle. The palate is medium to full-bodied with wonderful balance and elegance combined with inner strength. This is simply terrific. 3,000 bottles were filled at the end of May 2016. Drink Date: 2016 - 2025."

Clos Erasmus "Laurel" Priorat 2010

92 International Wine Cellar
90 Wine Advocate
94 Rhone Report
"A mini Clos Erasmus (as it should be since it's a straight declassification from the grand vin), the 2010 Laurel is comprised of 75% Garnacha, 20% Syrah, and 5% Cabernet Sauvignon that spent 16 months in a combination of larger wooden vat and smaller, 2-4 year old barrels. A serious, age-worthy wine in its own right, this beauty has classy, pure aromas of black cherry, spice-box, balsamic, and lead pencil along with a full-bodied, deep, concentration, yet gorgeously fresh palate. Seemingly more elegant and structured than previous vintages, this knockout effort finished with chalky minerality and blockbuster length. Give bottles another 2-3 years, and enjoy over the following decade."

Clos i Terrasses "Laurel" Priorat 2014

95 Wine Advocate
(10/28/2016) "I was really blown away by the aromatics of the 2014 Laurel. As soon as I put my nose in the glass I was transported to the vineyards of Gratallops, with a blast of wild herbs and flowers followed by a stream of smoked meat, juicy red currants and raspberries. It is mostly Garnacha but with some 10% each Syrah and Cabernet Sauvignon. The grapes are cooled down during the night and in the morning some are destemmed, and some others are left with the stems on and fermented mostly with indigenous yeasts. The élevage here is one year in a combination of used oak barrels, oak vats, cement and amphorae. They have increased the volume of wine being raised in amphorae in this 2014. This might very well be the finest Laurel to date. Simply stunning!"

Sao del Coster "S" Priorat 2013

92 Our Score
(10/2016) Sub-$25 Priorat is a rare treat and this one has us buzzing. A biodynamically farmed blend of 40% Carignan, 30% Grenache, 15% Cabernet Sauvignon, 10% Syrah and 5% Merlot, the 2013 Sao del Coster "S" is a gorgeous wine. It starts out with full, ripe red fruit aromas and flavors followed by complex notes of purple flowers, licorice, balsamic and white pepper. The touch of minerality on the finish really elevates the entire experience. We paired this with oxtail stew and will never forget how perfect they went together!

Bodegas Mas Alta "Black Slate" La Vilella Alta Priorat 2012

(9/2014) "(60% garnatxa, 35% carinena and 5% cabernet sauvignon; aged in French oak, 60% of it new): Saturated ruby. Deeply pitched aromas of dark berry liqueur, licorice, violet and Indian spices. A zesty mineral nuance adds cut and lift to plush blackberry and cassis flavors, which become sweeter with air. Quite lively for its heft, finishing with strong thrust and smooth, slowly building tannins that add grip."

Mas d'En Compte "Black Slate" Porrera Priorat 2014

92 Wine Advocate
(10/28/2016) "Part of the collection from different villages from Priorat, Cellar Cal Pla produced a 2014 Black Slate Porrera, which is a blend of 50% Garnacha with 40% Cariñena and the rest Cabernet Sauvignon. It is a village wine from 20- to 30-year-old vines on slate soils fermented in stainless steel and concrete vats and matured in 225- and 300-liter oak barrels (80% French oak, 20% Hungarian) for one year. The nose is beautiful, combining violets, a hint of beef blood, something ashy and an organic, soil note, developing a smoky bacon twist with time in the glass. The palate shows good integration of the oak, better than in the majority of wines from this winery. Beautiful flowers appear with time and made me go back to the glass again and again. Drink Date: 2016 - 2020."
