(7/2016) Most wine lovers don't realize that Pinot Gris is a genetic mutation of Pinot Noir and that it has a reddish-gray (Gris = Gray) color to its skin. How does Pinot Gris make a pink wine? Winemakers simply let the red-gray skins sit in contact with the clear juice for a few hours. In the case of the 2015 Dyckerhoff, the skins stayed in contact for 5 hours. The result is a vibrant, zesty, textured, tangy, red-fruited wine that will drink well on its own or with grilled salmon, guacamole, burgers and just about anything else you eat during the summer.

Domaine Reuilly Reuilly Pinot Noir Rouge 2011

(6/2016) Denis Jamain and his family have been quietly crafting very humble yet delicious wines in the little known region of Reuilly in the Loire Valley for over three generations. The vineyards are certified organic and are farmed with minimal intervention. Denis is also known for going into his nearby forest and personally selecting the trees he will use for his barrels, one of the few vignerons in the world to do such a thing. This bottling of 100% Pinot Noir is youthfully fresh and vibrant. The vivid red berry fruit plays a prominent role, highlighted by notes of tart cranberry and fresh juiced pomegranates, with a slight herbal undertone. Snappy and "oh-so-bright", this is a great rendition of Loire Valley Pinot Noir.
