Dominio del Aguila "Picaro del Aguila" Ribera del Duero 2013

92+ Our Score
92 Wine Advocate
(10/2015) "The 2013 Pícaro Tinto is Tempranillo with 5% Albillo from a mixture of north facing vineyards in the Sotillejo quarter of La Aguilera, the village of Burgos where they have all of their vineyards. They do not own a destemmer machine, so all of their wines ferment in full clusters and always with indigenous yeasts, in this case in cement vats. This 2013 had a shorter aging in barrel than the previous years and they also used a smaller percentage of new oak. This part of the village produces wines of great energy; the nose is fresh with an Atlantic, cool, herbal twist, representing the vintage, a year with a shorter vegetative cycle in the shape of red and black wild berries with some floral hints. This is an accessible, fresh and quite fruit-driven Ribera from a cool place in a cool vintage. The oak is very nicely integrated, with some spices and some grainy, slightly chalky tannins. Ideal for food. 8,000 bottles."

Finca Villacreces Ribera del Duero 2009

Typical retail is $39. We're blowing it out for $27.99!
92 Vinous, Josh Raynolds

93 Wine & Spirits
(6/2014) "Pure in its expression of place, Villacreces is a selection from low-yielding vines among the 160 acres that the winery tends in Quintanilla de Onésimo. Ripe red fruit scents dominate this wine, along with aromas of anise and spice. The oak is well integrated, perceptible in the smooth texture yet not imparting any overt wood flavors. The fruit has such depth that it invites a second glass, while also suggesting a long life ahead."

Lambuena Ribera del Duero Crianza 2011

90+ Our Score
(7/2017) This blend of 95% Tempranillo and 5% Merlot from 60-year-old vineyards pours a dark garnet color while exhibiting aromas and flavors of dry cherries, red raspberries, cedar, mocha, leather and espresso. Considerable complexity for such a moderate price. Big yet well balanced, the wine shows some grippiness, suggesting you needn't be in a huge hurry to consume it - if, that is, you are able to resist the temptation to consume it now. Poised to be a staff favorite, this is one heck of value!

Bodegas Cepa 21 "Hito" Ribera del Duero 2014

90 Our Score
90 Vinous, Josh Raynolds
(12/2015) "Bright purple. Lively and spicy on the incisive nose, displaying intense black and blue fruit and floral scents and a hint of minerality. Silky and focused on the palate, offering bitter cherry and berry skin flavors that deepen slowly with aeration. Closes silky and long, with gentle tannins adding shape and grip. This elegant wine drinks surprisingly well now after being open for an hour or so."

Bodega Valdehermoso "Lagar del Rey" Rueda Verdejo 2015

The best value Rueda we've ever found!
89 Our Score
91 Wine & Spirits
(6/2016) "A particularly fresh and crisp Rueda, this wine's vivid white fruit merges with deep flavors of almonds-it spent more than four months in contact with the lees. Generously ripe, this doesn't lose sight of its acidity, which provides nerve and tension."

Bodegas Portia "Ebeia Roble" Ribera del Duero Tempranillo 2013

88 Our Score
(3/2017) If you're used to full-bodied, full-throttle reds from Ribera del Duero, Portia's 'Ebeia Roble' takes it down a notch. Matured flavors evoke an almost Port-like nose, with flavors from schriveled red and black fruits, mocha and a pleasant dose of milk chocolate. The wine has impressive complexity: there's also a gravelly, gritty earth element which is unmistakably Ribera. It's all the perks of a big Spanish red without the heft or alcohol. Enjoy with virtually anything off the grill, or even on its own!
