Remelluri Rioja Reserva 2010

95 James Suckling
93 Wine Advocate
(2/4/2015) "A blend of the reds Tempranillo, Garnacha, Graciano and the whites Viura and Malvasía Riojana, it fermented with indigenous yeasts in a combination of stainless steel and oak vats then matured in French oak barrels for 17 months. The nose has earthy aromas and notes of ripe orange peel giving old-style character to the wine marked by very well-integrated oak and an obvious Rioja character. There are cherries, plums and spices with licorice and ink aromas. The day after, it has more strawberries with very good freshness, so the evolution in bottle should be good. The palate is medium-bodied with grainy tannins and good acidity that ends with sweet fruit flavors and something earthy, very pleasant and easy to drink. It grows on you. Drink 2014 - 2024."

R. Lopez de Heredia "Vina Tondonia" Reserva Rioja 2004

94 James Suckling

(4/2015) "The 2004 Viña Tondonia Reserva is a completely different story. It is a worthy follower of the 2001, the greatest of the Viña Tondonia Reservas of recent times. It has the usual blend and usual levels of alcohol and acidity, bottled after six years in oak barrels. The nose feels savory (if that's possible-umami?) and developed, with tertiary aromas and good balance between spices, leathery notes, cherries and balsamic notes of cigar box and incense. The palate is both round and crisp, with refined tannins. It has very good balance with subtle acidity and very good persistence. Drink Date: 2015 - 2024."

(9/2014) "(75% tempranillo, 15% garnacha, 5% graciano and 5% mazuelo): Vivid ruby. Musky red fruits, cherry, pipe tobacco and a hint of vanilla on the fragrant nose. Juicy and tightly focused, offering tangy raspberry and bitter cherry flavors and a touch of candied rose. Finishes on a tangy note, with a hint of blood orange, repeating florality and silky tannins coming up late. This is ready to drink but I wouldn't be surprised to see it age gracefully."

(11/2015) "Bright ruby-red. Ripe cherry, vanilla and floral pastilles on the smoky, oak-spiced nose. Sweet and supple on the palate, offering pliant red fruit and spicecake flavors with suave mocha and vanilla bean nuances. Quite lively and fresh for a wine from a hot vintage, and showing no excess fat. Finishes sweet, toasty and very long, with smooth tannins making a late appearance."

La Rioja Alta "Vina Ardanza" Rioja Reserva 2007

92-93 Our Score
94 Wine Advocate

(11/2015) "Brilliant red. Lively, oak-spiced raspberry and cherry scents are complemented by candied rose and vanilla, with a smoky mineral topnote providing added lift. Sappy and seamless on the palate, offering juicy red fruit, mocha and coconut flavors plus a suggestion of sweet chewing tobacco. In a graceful, approachable style, finishing with strong, thrust and silky, late-arriving tannins. While this suave Rioja is quite enjoyable now, I'd give it some more time in the cellar so that the American oak is able to integrate with the wine's fruit. Drinking window: 2019 - 2025"

Cune Gran Reserva Rioja 2010

#22 - Wine Spectator's Top 100 Wines of 2016! We called this one a shoo-in for Top 100. We were right!
94 Wine Spectator
(6/30/2016) "Highly Recommended - This generous red shows a traditional character, with leafy, dried herb, tea and spice notes framing dried cherry, licorice and leather flavors. Firm tannins and balsamic acidity impart structure, and this shows plenty of depth, with a juicy, spicy finish. Drink now through 2025. 600 cases imported."

(11/2015) "Deep ruby. Spice-accented aromas of dark berries, cherry pit, chocolate and candied rose, with a smoky element emerging slowly. Densely packed and sharply focused, with zesty acidity adding lift and cut to the wine's bitter cherry and redcurrant flavors. Finishes with silky, building tannins, a kick of peppery spices and strong spicy persistence. By all means give this youthful wine some aeration. Drink 2019-2025."

R. Lopez de Heredia "Vina Cubillo" Crianza Rioja 2007

An incredible buy here from Rioja's most classic estate!
91 Vinous, Josh Raynolds
93 James Suckling
91+ Wine Advocate
(2/16/2015) "The 2007 Viña Cubillo Crianza is the most affordable red. It is a wine that was born to go with tapas and to be sold at local restaurants showing a combination of fruit and the earth where the vines grow. It is a blend of the usual 70% Tempranillo, 20% Garnacho, 5% Graciano and 5% Mazuelo fermented in old oak vats with natural yeasts and matured in barrel for three years. The intoxicating nose shows blood orange, bitter cherries, leather and spices in a subtle and balanced way. The palate is sinewy, polished, has good acidity and is not terribly complex nor powerful, but is built more on the subtlety and lightness. This could well be the best Cubillo of recent times. Drink 2015-2022."
