Quintessa Rutherford Napa Valley Proprietary Red 2013

98 James Suckling
96 Wine Advocate
(10/2015) "The 2013 Proprietary Red Wine has always been good, but I think they have re-positioned themselves at a much higher pinnacle with the 2013. This is a Cabernet Sauvignon-dominated blend but has important component parts such as Cabernet Franc, Merlot and Petit Verdot from their gorgeous vineyards just off the Silverado Trail in Rutherford. The wine has a dense bluish/purple color and a beautiful nose of black raspberries, blueberries, lead pencil shavings, and touches of oak and spring flowers. The complexity of the fragrance is followed by a wine with terrific body, stunning purity, wonderful balance, and great depth and richness. This is certainly the most profound Quintessa made to date and should evolve gracefully for at least 20-25 years."

Quintessa Rutherford Napa Valley Proprietary Red 2012

96 James Suckling
94 Wine Advocate
(10/2014) "This beautiful winery adjacent to the Silverado Trail south of St. Helena boasts Michel Rolland as its consulting winemaker and he is undeniably responsible for increased quality. The outstanding 2012 Proprietary Red Blend Quintessa is composed of Bordeaux varietals dominated by Cabernet Sauvignon followed by Merlot, Cabernet Franc, Petit Verdot and Carmenère. One of the strongest efforts to date from this winery, it possesses a deep ruby/purple color as well as abundant aromas of sweet white chocolate, acacia flowers, and black and red fruits, full-bodied opulence, velvety tannins, and enough acidity to provide freshness and focus. It can be drunk now or cellared for another 10-15+ years."

Freemark Abbey "Bosche Vineyard" Napa Valley Cabernet Sauvignon 2012

97 Wine Advocate
(12/2015) "The classic 2012 Cabernet Sauvignon Bosché Vineyard is 90.1% Cabernet Sauvignon and the rest 9.9% Merlot, aged 26 months in oak. This is one of the iconic wines of Napa, and one of the great vineyard sources coming from Rutherford on foothill bench soils at the base of the Mayacamas Mountains. This is one of the finest examples of this wine I've ever tasted, and there have been many. The wine shows plenty of loamy soil notes intermixed with blackberry, cassis, cedar wood and spice box. It's full-bodied, shows terrific intensity, a multi-dimensional mouthfeel and moderate tannin in the finish. It still needs cellar time - and 5-6 years should bring forth plenty of magic, but this wine will also last 30-40 years."

McGah Family Vineyards "Scarlett" Rutherford Cabernet Sauvignon 2014

94 Wine Advocate
(12/30/2016) "The 2014 Cabernet Sauvignon McGah Family Vineyard tips the scales at 14.9% natural alcohol and is a cuvée of 425 cases from their Rutherford site. This was all aged in Darnajou and Taransaud barrels, which seems to be the modus operandi for high-quality producers these days. With a nice structured mouthfeel for 2014 and loads of creme de cassis, black chocolate, espresso roast and coffee, this wine from the vineyard near the Beckstoffer Georges III is rich, opulent, fleshy and already strutting its complexity and fruit-forward characteristics. Drink it over the next 15-20 years."

Round Pond Rutherford Napa Estate Cabernet Sauvignon 2013

93 Our Score
94 Wine Advocate
(12/30/2016) "The 2013 Cabernet Sauvignon Rutherford is a blend of 77% Cabernet Sauvignon, 19% Petit Verdot and 4% Malbec. This is a beautiful Rutherford Cabernet Sauvignon. Layers of gorgeous fruit and some kirsch liqueur followed by blacker currants and plums jump from the glass of this opaque ruby/purple-colored wine. Full-bodied, layered and rich, this provocative wine is actually a great value considering its stunning quality. Drink it over the next 20 years."

Frog's Leap Rutherford Napa Valley Cabernet Sauvignon 2014

93 Our Score
(12/2016) John Williams of Frog's Leap has delivered a worthy follow-up to his stellar 2013 with this 100% estate grown 2014 Cabernet Sauvignon. The quality of this wine is apparent from the first sip, with a texture, structure and classic flavors that will put a smile on the face of any Napa Cabernet lover. Olive and green herb flavors deliciously complement black cherry and blackberry fruits. The wine spent 18 months in French oak, resulting in notes of coffee, tobacco and sweet vanilla. Structurally, it gives a very long finish supported by medium-plus tannins and medium-plus acidity. Perfectly balanced. Perfectly pleasurable.

Frog's Leap Rutherford Napa Valley Sauvignon Blanc 2015

90 Our Score
(12/2016) This is a great bottle of Napa Sauvignon Blanc. Produced entirely from certified organic grapes grown exclusively on Frog's Leap's Rutherford estate (a rarity at this price), this is as good as $20 Napa Sauvignon gets. Delicious flavors of honeydew melon, peach and grapefruit are followed by complexities of sage and grass. A rich mouthfeel and a bright, balanced finish.

90+ Cellars "Lot 94" Rutherford Cabernet Sauvignon 2014

90 Our Score
(11/2016) When was the last time you saw a Cabernet from Napa Valley's prestigious Rutherford appellation for under twenty bucks a bottle? The folks at 90+ Cellars won't tell us where they sourced this wine from, but they really hit it big on the value scale. Offering notes of green olive, chocolate covered espresso bean, rosemary, thyme, roasted meat and coconut, this serious, full-bodied Cabernet seriously over delivers. It's good when you pop the cork and even better with aeration. Drink now and over the next 5-7 years or more.
