Herman Story Wines "Bien Nacido Vineyard" Santa Barbara County Syrah 2013

96 Wine Advocate
(8/2016) "The 2013 Syrah Bien Nacido is silky, elegant and ethereally textured, with killer aromas and flavors of black olives, smoked game, black fruits and pepper. A textbook example of Syrah from this cool climate, marine-influenced site, drink this full-bodied, gorgeously fresh, pure and lengthy Syrah anytime over the coming decade. This was co-fermented with 3% Viognier and spent 24 months in 100% new French oak, which has been completely adsorbed by this sensational wine."

Foxen "Block 8 - Bien Nacido Vineyard" Santa Maria Valley Pinot Noir 2012

94 Wine Advocate
(8/2014) "The 2012 Pinot Noir Block 8 Bien Nacido Vineyard Santa Maria Valley is pure class, with fabulous purity of fruit and an elegant, seamless style. Exhibiting notions of sweet red fruits, crushed flowers and sweet spice, it shows the suppleness of the vintage, yet has solid richness, a layered, balanced feel and a terrific finish. Completely destemmed and aged 17 months in 50% new French oak, it's an awesome Pinot Noir to drink over the coming 5-8 years."

The Hilt "The Old Guard" Santa Barbarra County Chardonnay 2013

94 Wine Advocate
95 Vinous, Antonio Galloni
(8/2015) "A wine of precision and translucent purity, the 2013 Chardonnay Old Guard is superb. Here, the greater reliance on Santa Maria fruit over Sta. Rita Hills, aging in neutral oak and mostly blocked-malo style come together to yield a vibrant, pulsating Chardonnay built on energy. Lemon peel, white flowers, green orchard fruit and chalk are all given an extra kick of brightness of acidity on the finish, where a slight element of Burgundian-inflected reduction adds further nuance. This is a stunning Chardonnay from The Hilt and Winemaker Matt Dees. Drinking window 2016 - 2025."

A Tribute to Grace Santa Barbara Highlands Grenache 2014

90 Vinous, Antonio Galloni
(9/2016) "The 2014 Grenache Santa Barbara Highlands Vineyard is one of the most lifted and perfumed wines in Angela Osborne's lineup, although of course, all the wines are aromatic in style. Dried leaves, tobacco, wild flowers and spices waft from the glass in a delicate, nuanced Grenache. Eccentric in style, the 2014 is not as varietally as some of the other wines in the range, but instead provides plenty of insights into Osborne's deeply personal style. The 2014 was done with about 2/3rds whole clusters and aged predominantly in neutral oak."

Fess Parker "Bien Nacido Vineyard" Santa Barbara Pinot Noir 2012

93 Wine Advocate
(8/2014) "The 2012 Pinot Noir Bien Nacido is a medium-bodied, rich, textured, yet elegant red that has plenty of ripe black cherries, underbrush, salt block and wild herb aromas and flavors. Seeing 15% whole cluster inclusion and 17 months in 46% new French oak, it excels for it purity, as well as for its seamless, silky texture. I'd drink it over the coming 4-6 years, but suspect it will evolve for longer."

Samsara "Turner Vineyard" Santa Barbara Syrah 2012

93+ Wine Advocate
95+ Vinous, Antonio Galloni
(6/2015) "Once again, the 2012 Syrah Turner Vineyard is the star of the show at Melville. An exotic mélange of blood orange, violets and spices makes a strong first impression. Deep and beautifully layered on the palate, the Turner offers superb depth and plenty of tannin to back it up. An explosive, vibrant finish only adds to the wine's considerable appeal. This is a real head-turner from SAMsARA and proprietor Chad Melville."

A Tribute to Grace Santa Barbara County Grenache 2014

90 Our Score
(8/2016) Angela Osborn's Santa Barbara County bottling is a 100% Grenache from three different sites in the region, all farmed organically. The 2014 growing season was a bit hot in these areas, resulting in a fuller, more fruit forward wine than in previous vintages. The end result however is still delicious. The win spent 17 months in neutral French Oak. Notes of ripe black plum and black cherry are complemented by notes of anise, fennel and undertones of wild flowers. Decant for at least an hour or two, and pair with hearty grilled fair to get the best result.

Mer Soleil "Reserve" Santa Barbara County Chardonnay 2014

90 Our Score
(9/2016) This new Santa Barbara bottling is the best Mer Soleil we've tasted in quite some time. The Wagner family (the folks from Caymus) have introduced this Santa Barbara Chardonnay to go along with their well known Santa Lucia offering. The labels are essentially the same, so it's a bit confusing, but it is definitely worth seeking this one out. Look for flavors of ripe red and yellow apple, nectarine, pineapple, butterscotch, vanilla and baking spice. This new bottling offers the overt lushness that Mer Soleil is known for, wrapped in a fresher and more vibrant structure.

Sans Liege "The Offering" Santa Barbara County Red 2013

91 Wine Spectator
91 Wine Advocate
(8/2016) "The 2013 The Offering checks in as a blend of 45% Grenache, 36% Syrah, 18% Mourvedre and a splash of Viognier, all of which spent 22 months in mostly neutral barrels. It's another upfront, charming, fruit-loaded and full-bodied effort from Curt that has lots of ripe black fruits, pepper and spice on both the nose and palate. It opens up nicely with time in the glass and is a Chateauneuf du Pape look-alike to enjoy over the coming 5-6 years."
