A.P. Vin "Gary's Vineyard" Santa Lucia Highlands Pinot Noir 2014

93 Wine Advocate
(9/28/2016) "Moving back to the Santa Lucia Highlands releases, the 2014 Pinot Noir Garys' Vineyard offers lots of savory, medium-bodied, complex notes of sassafras, scrub brush, black cherry, peppery spice and earth in a perfectly balanced, layered package. Its integrated acidity and fine tannin all suggest it will drink nicely through 2022."

(8/2013) "the knockout 2012 Pinot Noir Garys' Vineyard is loaded with potential. Gorgeously textured and rich, with beautiful acidity and focus, this medium to full-bodied effort offers up plenty of blackberry, blueberry, flowers, spice, underbrush and floral qualities to go with a layered, complex profile. It's a beauty and I can't wait to try if from bottle. Drink 2015-2022."

Morgan "Twelve Clones" Santa Lucia Highlands Pinot Noir 2014

(12/31/2016) "Light raspberry, cranberry, pomegranate and strawberry fruit tones greet the nose on this bottling. The aromas then offer a brick-like minerality bolstered by chiseled slate and wet river stones. Flavors are also rocky and rusty, with lots of crushed gravel and turned earth giving complexity to the cran-pomegranate fruit."

(6/2015) "Bright ruby-red. Primary dark berry and cherry scents unfold slowly to show peppery spice, cola and mocha elements. Fleshy and seamless in the mouth, offering pliant red and dark berry flavors that tighten up on the back half. Shows surprising vivacity for its heft, finishing with strong cut, harmonious tannins and a touch of lingering woodsmoke."

(6/2015) "Light yellow-gold. Smoky and spicy on the nose, displaying ripe citrus and orchard fruit aromas and flavors and a suggestion of candied ginger. Smooth and open-knit but lively as well, with a touch of leesiness emerging slowly. Finishes silky, broad and long, with refreshing bitterness and mineral-driven persistence. Drinking window: 2017 - 2021."

(10/2016) "Brilliant ruby. Vibrant, highly perfumed red and dark berry and floral scents show very good clarity and suave spicecake and cola nuances. Sweet, seamless and energetic on the palate, offering intense black raspberry and rose pastille flavors supported by a spine of juicy acidity. Finishes sappy and quite long; smooth tannins provide frame for the lush berry fruit."

Gauthier "Highland River Road Vineyard" Santa Lucia Highlands Riesling 2012

New low price! Regular Vin Chicago retail - $13.99!
90 Our Score
(8/2016) Planted in 1969 by Robert Mondavi and Jerry McFarland, the Highland-River Road vineyard is located in a high elevation, cool-climate area of the Santa Lucia Highlands which is perfectly suited to Riesling. Winemaker Greg Gauthier purchases the fruit from this historic vineyard and makes this delicious and distinctive single site offering. The wine shows pleasing flavors of apple, ripe citrus and white peach while remaining well-balanced with a nervy mineral spine and a taut, lively finish. Reminiscent of a well-done German Kabinett, it is one of the most distinctive semisweet American Rieslings we've ever had!
