Stolpman "Hilltops" Estate Grown Santa Ynez Valley Syrah 2011

91-93 Wine Advocate
90 Wine & Spirits
94 Vinous, Josh Raynolds
(11/2013) "(From the best sections of the estate vineyards, with roots deep into the limestone): Dark red-ruby. Deeply pitched aromas of mocha, chocolate and wild herbs, with pungent cherry and raspberry fruit emerging only after considerable time in the glass. Initially came across as even less fruity and more savory than the Originals, with a bit less early detail, but aeration brought a tactile, chewy texture and lovely floral lift. The wine's strong underlying energy gives the juicy, very long finish a light touch in spite of the wine's powerful impression of solidity. Lay this highly concentrated syrah down for more complexity."

Beckmen "Purisima Mountain Vineyard" Ballard Canyon Syrah 2013

94 Vinous, Antonio Galloni
93 Wine Enthusiast
93 Wine Advocate
(8/2015) "A step up over the smoking good 2012 version of this cuvee, the 2013 Syrah Purisima Mountain is a classic example from this estate that gives up tons of blackberries, cassis, licorice, roasted meats and a kiss of sweet oak. Full-bodied, beautifully pure, fresh and focused, it's an impeccably put together Syrah that will have a decade or more of longevity. The entry-level Purisima Mountain Syrah, it comes from the top of Ballard Canyon, was completely destemmed and spent 16 months in 40% new French oak."

Stolpman Estate Grown Syrah 2014

93 Wine Enthusiast
91 Vinous, Antonio Galloni
(9/2016) "The 2014 Syrah Estate is surprisingly succulent for a young Stolpman Syrah, which Peter Stolpman attributes to warmer nights and softer extractions. Dark cherry, plum, mocha and dark spices are fused together in a deep, yet mid-weight, highly expressive Ballard Canyon Syrah. The whole clusters are felt but also very nicely balanced. If this is the future direction for Stolpman, all I can say is the winery has made huge strides in recent years."

Beckmen Santa Ynez Valley Cabernet Sauvignon 2014

90 Our Score
(6/2016) The under-the-radar Beckmen Vineyards of Santa Barbara has yet again bottled a delicious $20 Cabernet. Flavors of cocoa, sweet wood, pure black and blue fruits and freshly turned earth are skillfully balanced with a soft but distinctive texture and structure. Impressively, the Beckmens produce all of their wine from estate grown fruit. This wine is drinking great now and will continue to do so for at least the next three to four years.

Ground Effect Santa Ynez Valley Cabernet Sauvignon 2013

90 Our Score
(8/2015) Up-and-coming winemaker Ryan Roark blends organically grown Cabernet from Happy Canyon with 15% Cabernet Franc to create this pure, delicious and honest wine that delivers way beyond its price point. Though it tastes like a good $25 bottle, Ground Effect's under-the-radar status means we were able to pick it up for a song. You'll want to stock up on this smart buy now - we don't expect that future vintages will be priced so aggressively.

Andrew Murray "Tous les Jours" Santa Ynez Valley Syrah 2014

92 Wine Enthusiast
91 Our Score
(10/2015) Could this be even bigger and fleshier than the awesome 2013 Tous les Jours? You betcha! Deep inky in color with a big, spicy, pepper-laden nose. After a few swirls blueberry and blackberry aromas begin to emerge and carry through as the dominant flavors on the palate. Offering big backbone, cleansing acidity, great balance and tremendous length, there is no better Syrah in the price category.

90 Wine Advocate
90 Vinous, Antonio Galloni
(9/2016) "The 2014 Cuvee Le Bec is an absolutely delicious wine as well as a tremendous value. Supple, vibrant and impeccably well-balanced, the 2014 offers considerable near and medium-term appeal, with plenty of vibrant fruit pushed forward. Le Bec is 50% Syrah, 35% Grenache, 8% Mourvedre and 7% Counoise."

Beckmen Vineyards Santa Ynez Valley Sauvignon Blanc 2015

We love this wine!
89 Our Score
(9/2016) Beckmen does a great job with Sauvignon Blanc. We're big fans of this wine, especially at this price. There is a unique Santa Barbara quality here that reminds us of great white Bordeaux, with a hint of pine and smoke to go along with the more familiar ripe citrus fruits. Yummy stone fruit flavors and a leesy texture are also in play here, along with medium-plus acidity. Good stuff!
