The Hilt "The Vanguard" Sta. Rita Hills Pinot Noir 2013

91+ Wine Advocate
95 Vinous, Antonio Galloni
(8/2015) "Dark, pliant and seductive, the 2013 Pinot Noir Vanguard wraps around the palate with striking depth and pure textural richness. Smoke, tobacco, licorice and spices inform the super-expressive aromatics. With time in the glass, the 2013 shows a deeper, darker register. Drink this bold, racy Pinot over the next decade or so. The 2013 is 100% Sanford & Benedict, done with fully destemmed fruit and aged in 40% new oak."

A.P. Vin "Clos Pepe Vineyard" Santa Rita Hills Pinot Noir 2012

93 Wine Advocate
(10/2014) "The 2012 Pinot Noir Clos Pepe Vineyard is a beautiful effort that excels on all accounts. Loaded with notions of cherry blossom, cassis, sweet spice, potpourri and flowers, it flows onto the palate with medium to full-bodied richness, solid mid-palate depth and high quality tannin that come together nicely on the finish. This is classic expression of this top-notch vineyard, and it will continue to thrill for 4-6 years."

93 Vinous, Antonio Galloni
93+ Wine Advocate
(8/2014) "The 2012 Pinot Noir Vanguard comes mostly from the Sanford & Benedict Vineyard, yet has 15% of the blend coming from Bien Nacido. Aged in 45% new French oak, it's a rich, muscular effort that has lots of underbrush and herbs to go with toast, spice, black raspberry and currant-styled fruit. This concentrated, yet layered and seamless beauty will drink well for over a decade."

The Hilt "The Old Guard" Sta. Rita Hills Chardonnay 2011

94 Wine Advocate
94 Vinous, Antonio Galloni
(7/2013) "A fascinating contrast to the Vanguard, the 2011 Chardonnay Old Guard is much more airy, precise and delicate. Hints of lemon, pastry and white stone fruits all flow in a Chardonnay that stands out for its pure class and personality. Bright, saline-infused notes support the finish. This is a first-class showing. The 2011 was aged 68% in neutral oak and 32% in steel, with partial malolactic fermentation (25%) and weekly batonnage."

Loring "Cargasacchi Vineyard" Sta. Rita Hills Pinot Noir 2013

94 Wine Enthusiast
92 Vinous, Josh Raynolds
(12/2014) "Deep ruby. Heady red and dark berry aromas are complicated by mocha, licorice and Indian spices, with a smoky element in the background. The palate offers intense black raspberry and bitter cherry flavors that gain sweetness and depth with air. This powerful yet lithe pinot finishes with strong thrust and fine-grained tannins that add grip."

Brewer Clifton Sta. Rita Hills Pinot Noir 2013

91 Our Score
91 Vinous, Josh Raynolds
(12/2014) "Bright ruby-red. High-pitched red berry and floral scents are sharpened by suggestions of white pepper and allspice. Juicy and precise on the palate, offering intense raspberry and bitter cherry flavors that become fleshier and sweeter with air. Fruit-driven and accessible, finishing with strong punch, repeating florality and slow-building supple tannins."

Melville Sta. Rita Hills Estate Chardonnay 2014

92 Vinous, Antonio Galloni
(6/2016) "The 2014 Chardonnay (Sta. Rita Hills) is rich and powerful in the glass, yet also shows good energy and overall translucence, especially for such an ample, broad-shouldered wine. Orange blossom, mint, spice and butter are front and center. With time in the glass, more tropically-leaning notes begin to develop. This, too, is, very nicely done. Drinking window: 2017 - 2022."

Fess Parker Sta. Rita Hills Pinot Noir 2012

90 Our Score
90 Wine Advocate
(8/2014) "The 2012 Pinot Noir Sta. Rita Hills is a pretty, forward and classy effort that gives up plenty of strawberry and sweet red berry fruit, spice and hints of flowers to go with a medium-bodied, supple, beautifully textured feel on the palate. Aged 12 months in 46% new French oak, it won-t make old bones, but will dish out plenty of pleasure over the coming 3-4 years."

Lompoc Wine Company Sta. Rita Hills Pinot Noir 2014

What do you get when you combine a talented winemaker, a James Beard award-winning sommelier and one of California's longest growing seasons? The most impressive sub-$20 Pinot Noir we have tasted in a long time!
92 Our Score
(6/2016) Sashi Moorman and Rajat Parr founded Lompoc Wine Company in 2012 with a commitment to creating affordable, terroir-driven wines. Using fruit sourced from some of the best vineyards in the area: Sanford & Benedict, Rita's Crown and Bent Rock, this beautiful 2014 bottling is packed full of flavor yet remarkably light on its feet. Flavors of dark cherry, raspberry, spice, rhubarb, white pepper and herbs are backed with bracing acidity and smooth tannins. We enjoyed our sample bottle over a period of six days. It was still delicious on the last day, absolutely amazing! The other wines this dynamic duo make retail for two to three times more than this gem. At $19.99 per bottle, this is one you can't miss!

Gainey Santa Rita Hills Chardonnay 2013

90 Our Score
89 Vinous, Antonio Galloni
(6/2015) "Gainey's 2013 Chardonnay is round, open-knit and inviting. Orange peel, tangerine, butter, mint, spice and a touch of French oak shape the soft, stylish finish. Best of all, the 2013 is a superb value. The Chardonnay is a blend of fruit from Gainey's three estate vineyards; Rancho Esperanza, Evan's Ranch and Home Ranch."
