Roberto Voerzio "Vigneto Pozzo dell'Annunziata" Barbera d'Alba Riserva 2008

97 James Suckling
(06/19/2013) "Aromas of tar, spices and dark fruits. Full-bodied and very layered, with polished tannins and a savory finish of ripe fruit and dried spices. Lasts a very long time on the palate. Drink now or hold"

Roberto Voerzio "La Serra" Barolo 2008

95 Wine Spectator
96+ Vinous, Antonio Galloni
(4/2012). "The 2008 Barolo La Serra emerges from the glass with dark red fruit, tar, smoke, licorice, spices and new leather. Today the 2008 comes across as surprisingly dark and masculine. The high-toned floral notes that are typical of this site have been replaced by a much darker, brooding register filled with tar, incense and black fruit notes. The wine freshens up beautifully with time in the glass as the aromatics become a bit more expressive. Voerzio's 2008 La Serra is a huge and hugely promising wine. The firm tannins argue for at least a few more years in bottle. A hint of rose petal lingers on the intese finish."

Bruno Clavelier Chambolle Musigny 2008

92+ Vinous, Stephen Tanzer
90-93 Burghound
(1/2010) "This is even more elegant and refined than the Noirots and more complex aromatically as well with a minerally, cool and sublimely rendered pinot fruit that runs primarily toward the red side of the spectrum that is followed by beautifully detailed, racy and remarkably fine middle weight flavors that culminate in a linear and borderline strict finish as there is some austerity. This delivers a striking combination of power and finesse with excellent finishing drive. Drink: 2016+"

Vilmart et Cie "Coeur de Cuvee" Brut 2008

95 Vinous, Antonio Galloni
95+ Wine Advocate
(6/2016) "The 2008 Coeur de Cuvée Premier Cru Brut is a blend of 80% Chardonnay and 20% Pinot Noir from 55-years-old vines, whose must comes from the coeur de cuvée, so the very best part of the pressing. This 2008 was disgorged in March 2015 with eight grams per liter. The wine opens with intense and ripe, highly elegant and Chardonnay-driven fruit with intense lemon, hazelnut and chalk flavors. It's rich and elegant on the palate, very firm and mineral, with great length, complexity and a string of mineral expression. This wine has great, great ageing potential. So beautifully fresh and mineral, so firm, fresh and elegant. Great finesse and complexity, this Champagne is very long and full of tension and finesse."

Chateau Cos d'Estournel Saint Estephe 2008

92 Vinous, Stephen Tanzer
92+ Wine Advocate
(5/2011) "Closed but promising, this is a classic Cos revealing lots of tannin along with damp earth, black currant, sweet black cherry, graphite, licorice and truffle characteristics. This medium to full-bodied, structured, firm, broodingly backward, impenetrable effort demands 5-6 years of bottle age; it should drink well for 20-25 years."

Jean Lallement Millesime Grand Cru Brut 2008

New low price! Regular Vin Chicago retail - $91.99!
93+ Our Score
This 100% Verzernay stunner is composed of Pinot Noir and Chardonnay with less than 750 bottles produced. It is taut and powerful, needing a bit of air to open up before the refreshing citrus reveals itself. The yeast component is compelling and the balance uncanny. The Pinot really shines through here. At this price, it is a rare treat!

Andre Clouet Millesime Brut 2008

92 Vinous, Antonio Galloni
(5/2013) "Clouet's 2008 Brut Millesime shows quite a bit more tension and focus than the 2007, hardly a surprise given then personality of the vintage. Bright, saline notes frame expressive red fruits, flowers and sweet spices. The 2008 Brut is a gorgeous wine with plenty of appeal today, but it will also develop beautifully in bottle. Stylistically it is less overt than the 2007 but places more emphasis on length. Brut Millesime is mostly Pinot, with 30-40% Chardonnay."

Fattoria di Felsina "Maestro Raro" Cabernet Sauvignon 2008

This Tre-Bicchieri award winner is a stunner. Decant for an hour or two and then kick back and enjoy this exceptionally refined Cabernet.
94 Wine Advocate
(6/2012) "The 2008 Maestro Raro is beautiful in this vintage, a year in which Cabernet Sauvignon varietal character reigns supreme. Plums, cassis, wild herbs, leather and licorice all come together gracefully in this gorgeous, expressive wine. The 2008 impresses for its length and striking, pure finish. This is a great showing. Maestro Raro is 100% Cabernet Sauvignon from Sangiovese, Trebbiano and Malvasia vines that were grafted over beginning in 1984. The 2008 is understated and classy, but its all there. Anticipated maturity: 2016-2028."

Jules Desjourneys "L'Interdit" Vin de France MMVIII 2008

93 Our Score
93 Wine Advocate
(8/2011) "The wine that will be known as 2008 Desjourneys is none other than Duperray's 2008 Fleurie - combining Chapelle des Bois and Les Moriers - that was refused appellation and so is officially, merely, "vin de France." Believe me, this is "vin de France" in the same sense that Debussy signed many of his late masterpieces "musicien francais." The high-toned floral, herbal, and fruit distillate esters that memorably marked the Chapelle des Bois from cask as well as the black tea-tinged and more bittersweetly herbal and concentrated dark berries of the original Les Moriers, have been preserved in this marriage - in fact, after recovering from my chagrin at this wine's having been denied its rightful appellation, I am now entirely reconciled to the two sites having been blended, inasmuch as the whole seems, remarkably, even greater than the sum of its already profoundly delicious parts! This finishes with mouthwatering salinity and a tenacious, almost Gewurztraminer-like meld of brown spices concentrated floral and herbal essences. I would anticipate it being worth following for half a dozen years, but on no account should it be missed earlier-on."

Piazzo "Sottocastello di Novello" Barolo Riserva 2008

A rare sub-$50 Barolo Riserva! Even at eight years of age the Sottocastello di Novello still shows some youthful tannins. Give it until its 10th birthday to start sampling and you will be well rewarded.
92 Our Score
92 Wine Enthusiast
(12/31/2014) "Red berry, blue lilac, baking spice and Mediterranean herb lead the nose. On the palate, notes of white pepper, sage and tobacco back up the bright red cherry flavors. It's still young, with aggressive tannins and bright acidity. Drink after 2018."
