Lucy Margaux "Red" Adelaide Hills Red 2016

91 Our Score
(3/2017) The 2016 Lucy Margaux "Red" is 100% Merlot from organically farmed vines, this is not even remotely close to being your typical Merlot, and it is raw and rustic with plenty of funk. Wine maker Anton Van Klopper is considered one of the "Godfathers" of Australia's natural wine movements, and is affectionately known as the "Wildman". Anton bottles his wines with zero additives. Nothing is added and nothing is taken away. This is an eye opening bottle of wine and a great introduction to a man who is nothing short of revolutionary.

Domaine Lafage "Miraflors" Cotes du Roussillon Rose 2016

90 Our Score
91 Wine Advocate
(4/28/2017) "Light in color, yet not in flavor, the 2016 Côtes du Roussillon Miraflors Rose (60% Grenache, 30% Mourvèdre and 10% Carignan) offers terrific notes of white cherries, strawberries and rose petals in a medium-bodied, layered, impeccably balanced style that's just hard to resist. It doesn't have the chiseled feel of the Grande Cuvee, but it offers just as much pleasure."

Day Wines Mamacita Pet Nat Malvasia 2016

90 Our Score
(4/2017) The 2016 rendition of "Mamacita" is a blend of 80% Malvasia and 20% Muscat. This bright and playful Pet Nat has become a Vin Chicago favorite over the past couple vintages. The addition of Muscat in this bottling creates even more intense aromatics than prior renderings. The palate is bright and energetic with notes of lemon and grapefruit zest, tangerine peel and ting (a Caribbean grapefruit soda). This is meant to be drunk out in the sunshine with a big plate of charcuterie.

Domaine de la Mordoree "La Dame Rousse" Tavel Rose 2016

91 Our Score
91 Vinous, Josh Raynolds
(6/2017) "Vivid orange-pink. Fresh and focused on the nose, displaying mineral-tinged red berry and orange pith scents and a deeper suggestion of cherry pit. Taut and chewy on the palate, offering refreshingly bitter red currant and blood orange flavors underscored by a vein of juicy acidity. Closes supple, focused and quite long, leaving behind sappy red berry and tangerine notes."

A Tribute to Grace Santa Barbara County Grenache Rose 2016

91 Our Score
(4/2017) A Tribute to Grace is the label of Angela Osborne, a New Zealand born winemaker who moved to California in 2006 to focus on her passion for Grenache. We've loved her Rose for the past two vintages but allocations were too small to feature it. We are thrilled that more came to Chicago this year, and it might be her best vintage yet! The interplay between delicate weightlessness and power is seamless. High toned floral notes of hibiscus and orange blossom are balanced by delicious red berries and candied orange rind, leading into a zesty, mineral-driven finish. A soulful Rose to drink now, and with enough of structure to consider cellaring until next year.

Aspen Lane "Jack-O-Bug" Chardonnay 2016

Winemakers Notes
"Light straw in color, this oak aged Chardonnay opens with baked apple, lemongrass, and light brown sugar on the nose. Those aromas continue onto the palate joined by lemon and baking spices from the oak. Slightly grassy in flavor, this wine is incredibly drinkable. Softened by malolactic fermentation, but not buttery, this wine finishes slowly and coats your mouth. Drink now through 2020."

A.D. Beckham Applegate Valley Amphora Vermentino 2016

91 Our Score
(5/2017) Taking inspiration from Italian winemaker Elisabetta Foradori who is regarded as one of the leaders in clay amphora use in winemaking, Andrew Beckham, a ceramicist by trade, sought to combine his two passions: ceramics and wine. Using fruit sourced from a single vineyard in the Applegate Valley located in southern Oregon, the Vermentino is the newest addition to Andrew's portfolio of wines fermented in his own handcrafted clay amphora. His ability to transform a fairly uninteresting varietal like Vermentino into what is in this bottle mimics Elisabetta's expression of Nosiola, adding texture and complexity to what would otherwise be just another common bottle of white wine. The amphora provides a porous environment conducive to a cooler, longer fermentation which allows for a more complete development of the wine's fruit characteristics as well as extended maceration on the skins for added texture. The flavor profile is incredibly clean and fresh, with notes of lime and green apple and an electric tension we've never really experienced in a Vermentino. But the true focus of this wine is the texture- full and satisfying mouthfeel, a slightly tannic element that Andrew would describe as 'dusty brick', and a lifted acidity that lingers forever. A truly unique bottle of wine that can be enjoyed by itself over a long period of time or with pork tacos.

Day Wines "Vin de Days Blanc" Willamette Valley White Blend 2016

90 Our Score
(3/2017) The newly release "Vin de Days Blanc" is an Alsatian inspired field blend of 42% Pinot Blanc, 16% Pinot Gris, 16% Riesling, 14% Muller Thurgau and 11% Muscat. This enticing blend was sourced from a number of organically and biodynamically farmed vineyards throughout the Willamette. The texture is supple and round, gently coating the palate only to be energized by the zesty acidity, creating a wine of great balance and versatility. The aromatics are reminiscent of springtime, and indeed those are the types of food that this would pair wonderfully with, such a fresh salads and roasted chicken.

Alpha Estate Xinomavro Rose 2016

91 Wine Advocate
(4/28/2017) "The 2016 Rosé is a Xinomavro sourced from the Hedgehog area of the Amyndeon Plateau. It comes in at 13% alcohol. Very Provençal in style, this dry pink with pale salmon color is a beauty again this year. Refined and sophisticated, it does everything well, showing enough focus and grip to hold up to food while being restrained enough to drink nicely on its own. Drink Date 2017 - 2020." (Greece)
