Penfolds Grange 2009

97 Wine Advocate
(2/26/2014) "The 2009 Grange Shiraz is a comprised of 84% Barossa, 8% McLaren, and a little Clare Valley and a little Magill fruit with a small 2% of Cabernet Sauvignon in the blend. At this youthful stage, this deep garnet-purple colored wine puts forward a vivid expression of blackberry preserve aromas amid underlying cassis, black cherry, spice box, char-grilled meat and chocolate box notes. Surprisingly medium to full-bodied (it smells much fuller!) with taut flavors that are very closed in the mouth, it has firm, chewy tannins to structure through the long and earthy finish. 406 cases imported to the US. Drink it 2018 to 2035+."

Penfolds "Bin 169" Coonawara Cabernet Sauvignon 2010

98 James Halliday
(9/2013) "A single vineyard wine, matured for 14 months in new French oak in which it finished the final stages of its fermentation. The bouquet is laden with cassis of startling purity, and while cedary oak is a major player, it is so well-integrated it doesn't overwhelm, let alone challenge, the fruit."

(7/2014) "Greenish yellow. Fresh pear and melon on the mineral- and ginger-accented nose. Chewy citrus and orchard fruit flavors show a hint of leesiness and a chalky mineral underpinning. Rounds out with air while maintaining precision and vivacity thanks to a solid spine of juicy acidity. Closes with lingering pear and orange notes and excellent mineral-driven persistence."

Katnook Estate Coonawarra Cabernet Sauvignon 2012

92 Wine & Spirits
(10/2015) "Savory black cherry flavors and dark chocolate tannins give this a classical Coonawarra profile. It's not green or vigorous, though the aroma carries a hint of mint and persimmon. Those notes add nuance and earthy textural detail, making this an elegant cabernet for lamb."

(6/1/2016) "Savvy shoppers may be able to find this for about $20, making it an excellent deal in a full-bodied, structured red wine. Cassis, vanilla and plum notes mark the nose and palate, finishing with a flourish of dusty-textured tannins. Drink now-2025."
