Vina Sena Valle del Aconcagua Red Blend 2013

96 Wine Advocate
99 James Suckling
(7/2015) "Superb aromas of black currants, rose petal and mint. Lavender and stones too. Full body with incredible fruit density. Complex, yet it's agile and bright. Tannins are perfectly polished. It builds on the palate and shows the structure of a first growth Bordeaux but remains so Chilean. A blend of 58% cabernet sauvignon, 15% carmenere, 12% malbec, 10% merlot, and 5% petit verdot. From biodynamically grown grapes. This is a joy to taste now but it will show itself in 2019. Even better than the amazing 2012."

De Martino "Vigno" Dry-Farmed Maule Valley Carignan 2013

New low price! Regular Vin Chicago retail - $44.99!
96 Wine Advocate
(12/2015) "The 2013 Vigno Single Vineyard La Aguada is part of the Vigno association of producers of Carignan (Cariñena) from the Maule Valley. The wine is produced from a field blend from an ungrafted, dry farmed, head-pruned old vineyard called La Aguada in Sauzal. The secret here is to mature the wine in large volume oak containers, something they are doing with all of their top wines that has worked really well. 2013 is a year with better natural acidity than previous years, while alcohol levels were moderate, yields were naturally high and they had to work to contain them. The grapes fermented with indigenous yeasts and the wine matured in 5,000-liter oak foudres for two years. This is a wine of character, the nose has a special freshness and incipient complexity for such an early age; there are aromas of bacon, tree bark, wild berries and a pinch of spices. The palate is medium-bodied with refined, ultra-polished tannins that give elegance to that internet rusticity, while at the same time it is restrained with a certain austerity. I've had this wine at least four times and it's quite a chameleon, sometimes showing itself more like a Syrah, sometimes it felt more Cariñena and it was always ever changing in the glass. There is a lot of complexity, and even if sometimes I felt like there was a lack of typicity, my final conclusion is that the field blend has to be the reason for such complexity and changing personality. For now, this is certainly world-class Cariñena, and among the best wines produced in Chile. Well done! An open bottle evolved nicely during the course of three days, which gives an indication of a robust wine resistant to oxidation, which I think should also evolve nicely and slowly in bottle."

Cono Sur "20 Barrels" Casablanca Valley Pinot Noir 2013

91 Our Score
91 Wine Advocate
"The nose is quite Burgundian with traces of smoke, spices and something earthy à la Gevrey, over the core of black cherries. The palate is medium-bodied, nicely structured with good acidity and nerve, clean and not built around concentration, but around its acidity and minerality. Great Pinot, superb value for money. Drink 2016-2020."

Pedro Parra y Familia "Imaginador" Itata Valley Cinsault 2015

90 Our Score
(2/2017) Pedro Parra is a master of terroir, dedicating his life to trying to understand what drives it. After having traveled and worked throughout much of the rest of the world he returned to his native Chile because he believed that it, and more specifically the Itata region to the far South, has some of the most expressive and dynamic terroir in all of Chile. The "Imaginador" bottling is labeled as Cinsault from various blocks planted over 200 years ago; with the average vine age is between 71 and 110 years old. Much like old vine Zinfandel plots in California, this site is not entirely Cinsault. There is a smattering of other grapes interspersed throughout, such as Muscat, Semillon, Carignan and Pais. The wine beautifully displays the intense mineral and rocky characteristics of the volcanic soil, with plenty of lift and freshness to the spicy berry-tinged palate. A great glimpse into how wine has been traditionally done in this region for hundreds of years.

(2/2017) "(aged for 18 months in three- and four-year-old French oak barrels) Inky purple. Powerful, highly perfumed aromas of ripe red and blue fruits, licorice and violet, enlivened by a peppery topnote. Stains the palate with sweet raspberry and boysenberry flavors that are given spine by a core of juicy acidity. Velvety tannins firm a long, smooth, mineral- and spice-tinged finish that shows very good focus and vibrant lift. There's exceptional value here."

Casas del Bosque "Gran Reserva" Valle de Casablanca Syrah 2014

94 James Suckling
92 Vinous, Josh Raynolds
(2/2017) "(aged in French oak barrels, 65 percent of them new, for 11 months) Vivid purple. Powerful, smoke- and spice-accented dark berry, olive, cola and floral scents become spicier and open up with air, gaining a peppery nuance and a hint of star anise. Sappy and energetic in the mouth, offering blackberry, cassis and violet pastille flavors that show seamless texture and vibrant lift. The floral and spice qualities come back emphatically on a very long, penetrating finish that's shaped by smooth tannins. This wine delivers remarkable value for New World Syrah -- or Old World, for that matter. Drinking Window: 2019 - 2025."
