Aldo Conterno Langhe Rosso 2011

91 Our Score
(4/2015) Aldo Conterno is one of the most celebrated growers in all of Piedmont. Known for his stylish, high end Barolo, Conterno also produces this delicious Langhe Rosso. The wine is made primarily from the obscure Fresia grape with smaller quantities of Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot added in for good measure. After fermentation in tank, the blended wine is moved to small oak barrels, both new and used, where it spends up to twelve months. The result is this delicious red that tastes like a Barbera-meets-a-Barolo with a slight suggestion of Bordeaux! Look for flavors of dried raspberry and strawberry, red flowers, dried red earth and smoked green herbs. Try it with grilled sausages!
