Pahlmeyer Napa Valley Merlot 2012

This is real-deal Merlot! A blend of 91% Merlot, 7% Petit Verdot and 2% Cabernet Sauvignon.
91-94 Wine Advocate
93-95 Vinous, Antonio Galloni
(11/2013) "The 2012 Merlot is another knock out. Dark red cherry, plum, mocha, spices and new leather flesh out in a seamless Merlot with soft contours and exceptional overall balance. Readers will have a hard time keeping their hands off this utterly impeccable, polished Merlot from Pahlmeyer. All the elements are in the right place. Most importantly, the 2012 is flatout delicious. I tasted the 2012 from a preliminary blend, and it was impressive."

Plumpjack Napa Valley Merlot 2013

90 Wine Advocate
92 Vinous, Antonio Galloni
(10/2015) "The 2013 Merlot is dark, supple and nicely textured in the glass. Sweet red cherries, tobacco, mint, licorice and dried herbs are laced together in the glass. This is an especially savory, mineral-driven Merlot with good depth and nuance, but there is plenty of juiciness in the dark red/bluish fruit, some of that the result of the inclusion of 13% Malbec in the blend. Far from an easygoing wine, the 2013 is going to need at least a year or two for the tannins to soften. The Merlot is made from a site in Oak Knoll."

Shafer Napa Valley Merlot 2013

91 James Suckling
92 Vinous, Antonio Galloni
(10/2015) "Shafer's 2013 Merlot is wonderfully fresh, brisk and nuanced. Sweet red cherry, plum, mint and expressive spice notes are all pushed forward. This open-knit, fleshy Merlot should drink well for the next handful of years."

Jemrose "Gloria's Gem" Bennett Valley Sonoma Merlot 2012

93 Wine Advocate
(12/2014) "The top wine is the 2012 Gloria's Gem, a 100% Merlot cuvée from Bennett Valley. This stunning Merlot reminds me of some of the classic Merlots made in the early 1990s at Matanzas Creek. Abundant notes of white chocolate, mocha, black cherry liqueur and espresso beans are followed by a full-bodied, concentrated, inky, lush red. Consume it over the next decade or more."

Prisoner Wine Company "Thorn" Napa Valley Merlot 2012

Winemakers Notes
"While working with our growers, we came across small vineyard lots of Merlot, which had managed to survive being replanted to Cabernet Sauvignon. Inspired to preserve these remaining Merlot lots and introduce our distinct style of Napa Valley Merlot, Thorn was created. The wine is a blend of Merlot, along with Syrah and Malbec. Deep purple in color, the wine releases aromas of black cherry with hints of cedar and pencil lead. Dense flavors of dark fruits and rich plum are framed by velvety tannins and an opulent, lingering finish."

Chateau Haut-Segottes Grand Cru Saint Emilion 2011

91 Our Score
(5/2016) This powerful St. Emilion has just the right amount of bottle age to start really showing its stuff, and we're thrilled to be able to offer this to you at the lowest price in the country! The fruits are rich and dense, while the tannins are soft but still offer excellent grip. Enjoy this with a perfectly prepared Filet Mignon with sauteed mushrooms. Delicious!

Chateau de Bellevue Lussac-Saint Emilion 2004

We blew through this ready-to-drink Bordeaux a few months ago in an email offering and were able to secure more cases direct from the estate!
91 Our Score
(9/2014) An elegant blend of 95% Merlot and 5% Cabernet Franc that is drinking perfectly today. Andre Chatenaud and his wife orgnaically farm this small property in the Saint-Emilon satellite of Lussac. While the recently released 2010 is a serious and structured red that will drink well for many years to come, this 2004 is perfect today. Look for notes of dried flowers, plum and black berry, gritty earth, tobacco and a very elegant, long and balanced palate. Straight from the cellar in Bordeaux to us and a steal for perfectly aged 10-year old Bordeaux.

Domaine Pont de Guestres Lalande-de-Pomerol 2010

90 Our Score
(8/2016) From a tiny two hectare estate comes this bottling of 100% Merlot from 25 year old vines. This is serious Bordeaux. At $30 it is a great buy. At $22.99 it's an absolute must have, offering a wonderful marriage of black plum, mineral and barrel flavors along with sandy tannins. The balance, concentration and overall harmony of this wine are quite impressive. Drinking well now and will continue to do so for easily another 10 years.

Freemark Abbey Napa Valley Merlot 2012

90 James Suckling
92 Wine Advocate
(10/26/2014) "A cross-Napa Valley blend, the 2012 Merlot is their largest cuvée (15,500 cases), and is composed of 85.2% Merlot blended with other Bordeaux varietals. Only 21% new oak is used, so the fruit component dominates. A dense plum/purple color is followed by notes of chocolate, berries, tobacco leaf, forest floor and mocha. This lush, fruit-driven, hedonistic, sensual Merlot can be drunk over the next 7-8 years."

Chateau Cap de Faugeres Castillon Cotes de Bordeaux 2010

92 James Suckling
90 Wine Spectator
89 Wine Advocate
(2/2013) "The 2010 Cap de Faugeres, a blend of 85% Merlot, 10% Cabernet Franc and the rest Cabernet Sauvignon from one of the better sections of the Cotes de Castillon known as Sainte-Colombe, was bottled unfined and unfiltered by consultant Michel Rolland. It tips the scales at 14.5% alcohol and displays kirsch, black currant, licorice and smoky charcoal/barbecue notes. Medium to full-bodied, lush and very sexy already, this sleeper of the vintage is soft enough to be drunk now or can be cellared for up to a decade. Bravo!"
