Beckham "Amphora" Dundee Hills Pinot Gris 2014

Winemakers Notes
"The A.D. Beckham wines are a convergence of two passions- ceramics and wine. The terra cotta amphorae used to make these wines are handcrafted in Andrew's studio on our vineyard. This wine was fermented on skins for 30 days in terra cotta, partially aged in terra cotta and Acacia barrels. This pinot gris looks like a Rosé. It's wonderfully fragrant, with a nose of baking spices, then ripe peaches. The palate is pomegranate with a mineral-like texture.. Bottled unfined and unfiltered. Only 97 cases made. Dinking window: now through 2020."

Teutonic Wine Company "Maresh Vineyards" Dundee Hills Pinot Gris 2014

91 Our Score
88 Wine Advocate
(4/2016) "The 2014 Pinot Gris Maresh Vineyard has a fresh pear and peach skin scented bouquet with light granitic undertones, and then later a lovely touch of marzipan coming through. The palate is well balanced with good weight on the entry. It is phenolic compared to other Pinot Gris that I tasted, slightly pithy in the mouth, though I was seeking more complexity and tension to furnish the finish and match the superb aromatics. Still, that might develop with another 12 months in bottle, so hold off drinking for a few months. In last year's report, I echoed the sentiments of David Schildknecht in his admiration for Teutonic's distinctive wines, apart from their fantastical designs of their labels. It was great to meet Barnaby Tuttle at their recently opened tasting room - my first visit during my stint in Oregon, where I tasted the recent crop of releases. "Going into 2014, it was exceptionally warm and I was afraid because our style is acid-driven and I never add water or chaptalise," he explained. "There was a moment when I thought we would have to add water, but we had great conversion rates that saved our butt! In 2015, I was not so freaked out. All wines are neutral oak, but somehow they have a Popsicle note on the finish. I cannot understand where that come from." Maybe the wines were a little more up and down than I had been anticipating, then again, these wines are designed to reflect the growing season. The Pinot Noir from the Alsea Vineyard is certainly great terroir, and a vertical demonstrated its propensity to hit a sweet spot 5-6 years after bottling."

Charles Baur Alsace Pinot Gris 2014

90 Our Score
(9/2016) This excellent Alsatian Pinot Gris from Baur is about richness, plumpness and ripe fruit qualities. You'll find just a bare kiss of sweetness along with flavors of limestone, grey rocks, Bosc pear, guava, nectarine and tropical flowers. An excellent value to drink by itself or with rich chicken and fish dishes.

Meinklang "Graupert" Osterreich Pinot Gris 2015

91 Wine Enthusiast
(3/2017) "There is a wonderfully aromatic element of something floral and tropical on the nose of this unusual Pinot Gris. The fruit expression is very ripe, reminiscent of melon and juicy pear, highlighted with pineapple and fresh lemon, but there also is ample zesty freshness for balance. If you thought you had tasted all that Pinot Gris has to offer, taste this one, which was created from unpruned vines left to their own devices and bearing deliciously few clusters of delicious fruit."

Emile Beyer "Tradition" Alsace Pinot Gris 2015

90 Our Score
(1/2017) A delicious and fleshy example of Pinot Gris from Christian Beyer, the 14th generation of his family to make wine in Alsace. With expressive notes of fruit cocktail, yellow flowers, river stone minerality and a concentrated mouthfeel, this offering gives loads of pleasure while maintaining a balanced and interesting structure.

(10/1/2016) "Aromatically compelling with floral, stone fruit and mineral highlights, this offers palate-cleansing freshness. The mineral-drenched flavors blend melon, peach and lemon rind, with a finishing burst of lime. It was fermented and aged entirely in stainless steel."

J Vineyards California Pinot Gris 2015

87+ Our Score
(7/2016) The aromas combine tropical and citrus fruits along with an alluring touch of honeysuckle. These notes carry through to the palate with flavors of pineapple, Meyer lemon and white peach. Medium-bodied, the finish gives a bit of honey and lemongrass. Just a bit off-dry and easy drinking, this wine - if you'll excuse the Game of Thrones reference - may be just the perfect thing for folks in the Vale to drink as they prepare for Winter

A to Z Oregon Pinot Gris 2015

Same price as last year!
89 Our Score
90 Wine Enthusiast
(12/1/2016) "Best Buy - The price of this all-occasion white wine keeps creeping up, but the quality stays high, even as production levels push toward six figures. It's lightly spritzy, pale lemon in color, and tastes remarkably like grapefruit, with a gentle dusting of sugar. As fresh as can be, it should be drunk slightly chilled, paired with something like chicken breasts in a citrus sauce."
