Bodegas Muga "Seleccion Especial" Reserva Rioja 2010

96 Decanter
93+ Wine Advocate
96 James Suckling
(7/2015) "A round and silky red with deep and rich fruit and floral aromas. Wet earth too. Full-bodied, racy and beautiful. True Rioja. This comes from older vines of tempranillo with an average age of 20 years or more. Maceration is a little longer. Six months in new French oak and then 24 months in old French and American oak barrels. One and a half years in bottle."

Hacienda Monasterio Ribera del Duero 2011

Rich, dense, powerful and pretty! A Wine Spectator "Top 100" wine, and very deserving of the accolade.
93 Wine Spectator

(10/2015) "The 2011 Reserva has a jammy nose with notes of toffee-caramel (dulce de leche, and not because I've just returned from Argentina!), very ripe plums and cherries without being overripe. The reservas are always 80% Tempranillo and 20% Cabernet Sauvignon, but this 2011 was bottled in September 2013, so it was nearly two years in barrique as it was a powerful, ripe harvest and Peter Sisseck is experimenting with longer aging. It's an opulent, ripe, hedonistic Ribera with a medium-bodied palate; it's more fluid than I expected, nicely textured and rich without excess. A ripe, showy reserva."

Bodegas Neo Ribera del Duero 2010

93 Wine Advocate
(8/2014) "The 2010 Neo is excellent, with fresh fruit aromas, mixing red and black berries with black pepper, vanilla and other spices and developing a floral undertone after aeration. It's elegant and complex, very well balanced, pleasant and easy to drink. Proof that you can make a drinkable red with a judicious 20-month elevage. Bravo! Drink now-2020."

Valenciso Rioja Alta Reserva 2007

93 Wine Advocate
(12/2013) "The 2007 Valenciso Reserva is pure Tempranillo from argilo-calcareous soils around Haro cropped at 38 hectoliters per hectare, fermented in cement vats with native yeasts, and aged for 16 months in French oak barrels, one third of which are new. 2007 was a cold, wet, Atlantic and difficult vintage, where the date of the harvest made a big difference. At Valenciso they started on October 14 and the wine is quite tight at the moment, with subtle and elegant notes of red and black fruit, cedar wood, nutmeg and vanilla. The characteristic that strikes me as more important here is the balance, something that Valenciso seems to be quite good at, producing classically proportioned wines with the right amount of extraction, acidity and wood. It should age very well. This wine represents the bulk of the 100,000 bottles produced by the winery. Drink 2014-2022."

Remelluri Rioja Reserva 2010

95 James Suckling
93 Wine Advocate
(2/4/2015) "A blend of the reds Tempranillo, Garnacha, Graciano and the whites Viura and Malvasía Riojana, it fermented with indigenous yeasts in a combination of stainless steel and oak vats then matured in French oak barrels for 17 months. The nose has earthy aromas and notes of ripe orange peel giving old-style character to the wine marked by very well-integrated oak and an obvious Rioja character. There are cherries, plums and spices with licorice and ink aromas. The day after, it has more strawberries with very good freshness, so the evolution in bottle should be good. The palate is medium-bodied with grainy tannins and good acidity that ends with sweet fruit flavors and something earthy, very pleasant and easy to drink. It grows on you. Drink 2014 - 2024."

R. Lopez de Heredia "Viña Bosconia" Rioja Reserva 2004

93 Vinous, Antonio Galloni
94 James Suckling
93 Wine Advocate
(12/2013) "The 2004 Vina Bosconia Reserva is a blend of 80% Tempranillo, 15% Garnacho and the remaining 5% Mazuelo and Graciano aged for five years in used barrels, racked twice per year and fined with egg whites before being bottled unfiltered. Dark ruby-colored, with notes of beef blood, iron, antique shop, incense, blood orange and a touch of volatile acidity, the palate is very fresh, with good concentration, clear flavors and enough grip and fruit to age gracefully. A perfumed and feminine great Rioja. The Bosconia vineyard wines are the only ones from Lopez de Heredia bottled in Burgundy bottles. Drink now-2024."

R. Lopez de Heredia "Viña Bosconia" Rioja Reserva 2003

92 Vinous, Josh Raynolds
92 Wine Advocate
(8/2012) "The 2003 Vina Bosconia has another enticing bouquet: hints of cooked meat, hickory, peat and rosemary that is beautifully defined. The palate is medium-bodied with firm dry tannins and a poised, lifted earthy finish with touches of soy and sea salt on the aftertaste. This deserves several more years in bottle. Drink 2018-2030+"

R. Lopez de Heredia "Vina Tondonia" Reserva Rioja 2003

91 Wine Enthusiast

92 Vinous, Josh Raynolds
(11/2015) "Bright ruby-red. Ripe cherry, vanilla and floral pastilles on the smoky, oak-spiced nose. Sweet and supple on the palate, offering pliant red fruit and spicecake flavors with suave mocha and vanilla bean nuances. Quite lively and fresh for a wine from a hot vintage, and showing no excess fat. Finishes sweet, toasty and very long, with smooth tannins making a late appearance."

La Rioja Alta "Vina Ardanza" Rioja Reserva 2007

92-93 Our Score
94 Wine Advocate
92 Vinous, Josh Raynolds
(11/2015) "Brilliant red. Lively, oak-spiced raspberry and cherry scents are complemented by candied rose and vanilla, with a smoky mineral topnote providing added lift. Sappy and seamless on the palate, offering juicy red fruit, mocha and coconut flavors plus a suggestion of sweet chewing tobacco. In a graceful, approachable style, finishing with strong, thrust and silky, late-arriving tannins. While this suave Rioja is quite enjoyable now, I'd give it some more time in the cellar so that the American oak is able to integrate with the wine's fruit. Drinking window: 2019 - 2025"
