Massican "Annia" Napa Valley White Blend 2015

93 Our Score
Besides making reds from Bordeaux varietals at Larkmead, Dan Petroski also studied in Italy and has a keen understanding of northeastern Italian whites, specifically those from Friuli. The best of these white blends are highly complex with intriguing texture and many levels of flavor. The super-cool flagship Annia is inspired by these classic Friulian white blends, combining 45% Tocai Friulano with 41% Ribolla Gialla and 14% Chardonnay. The texture here is incredible. Despite only having 12.5% alcohol, it shows wonderful weight and palate richness. Look for flavors of red and yellow apple, apricot, white peach and Rainier Cherry. We often say a wine is delicious, but this one deserves a capital D - Delicious!

Marramiero "Livia" Vino Cotto NV

92 Our Score
(10/2015) This unique dessert wine is a very old tradition of Abruzzo that has been nearly disregarded by all but a few dedicated producers. Marramiero, through modern techniques, has perfected the wine and the result is a must-try, decadent sweet wine somewhat reminiscent of Vin Santo. Rather than drying grapes, the must is actually boiled and reduced concentrating the sugars through carmelization. Fresh must is then blended in and the juice is fermented, followed by aging in oak barrels of different types and sizes. This was a star at our wine dinner paired with Bascule Wine Bar's flourless chocolate cake with espresso syrup.

Mullineux "Old Vine" Swartland White 2014

Primarily Chenin Blanc, with Clairette, Viognier and Semillon, this stuff is delicious!

93 Wine Advocate
(11/2015) "The 2014 Old Vine White is just a peach of a wine. It is fairly innocuous at first, saunters around for bit, minding its own business. Perhaps your attention is lowered. Then it evolves these wonderful aromas of almond, beeswax and just a hint of creme brulée. The palate is very well balanced with fine acidity, perhaps not quite as complex as the nose at full flight, but it delivers impressive, almost disarming persistence on the ginger-tinged finish. You will polish off a bottle quicker than you wish."

Mestres "Coquet" Gran Reserva Brut Nature Cava 2009

92 Our Score
(8/2015) Wow! What a great bottle of bubbly! The Cava house of Mestres is based in the village of Sant Sadurní d'Anoia, right in the heart of the finest area for Cava in Penedès. This bone-dry sparkler spent 40 months on its lees. (Most Champagne spends only 15 months!) The blend is a traditional 40% Xarello, 30% Macabeo and 30% Parellada, some of which is aged in old chestnut barrels. With a wonderfully rich texture, precise acidity and flavors of honeyed, nutty orchard fruit, this serious bubbly could easily be mistaken for a $40 Champagne!

Venus la Universal "Dido" Montsant Blanc 2014

92 Our Score
(11/2015) The husband and wife team of Rene Barbier Jr. and Sara Perez have absolutely crushed it with this deliciously rich dry white. Blending Garnacha Blanca with Macabeo and Caroxia, this medium-full bodied wine tastes like a great Pouilly-Fuisse rossed with a world class Albarino! The rich orchard, stone and citrus fruit flavors combine with nervy mineal tones and a fleshy mouthfeel to create a complete, complex and very exciting sensation. This has the quality of a world-class $35 wine.

Audrey et Christian Binner "Les Saveurs" Alsace White Blend 2014

90 Our Score
(3/2016) The Binner estate was established in 1770 and the family owns nine hectares in Alsace, only six of which are under vine. They are a certified organic producer practicing biodynamic farming. They produce "natural wines" using little to no additives (including sulfer) and no technological manipulations. This "Saveurs" bottling is a gorgeous field blend of Riesling, Sylvaner, Auxerrois, Gewurztraminer & Pinot Gris. All of the grapes come into play in this highly aromatic, floral and spicy wine. Delicious green apple, pear, lemon drops, peach and lychee are complimented by minerality, fresh cut flowers and subtle spice. The palate is lean, dry and bright and the finish is very long. This is a must-have for Thai and Sushi BYOB's and is a perfect choice for spicy foods.

Evesham Wood "Blanc des Puits Sec" Eola-Amity Hills White Blend 2014

90 Our Score
(3/2016) This delicious blend of 85% Pinot Gris and 15% Gewurztraminer comes from the Evesham Wood estate's certified organic vineyard "Le Puits Sec" planted in 1986. Produced in stainless steel tanks, this is a crisp and dry white filled with clean flavors of pear, peach and a touch of lemon zest. The palate is medium-bodied and well-balanced with just a touch of spicy Gewurztraminer flavor coming through on the finish with notes of rose petal and honeysuckle. A great choice to welcome in Spring!

Thurston Wolfe "PGV" Columbia Valley Pinot Grigio/Viognier 2014

89-90 Our Score
(7/2015) One of the tastiest white blends of the year, this combination of 58% Pinot Gris, 37% Viognier and 5% Orange Muscat offers a wonderful balance of peach and apple Pinot Gris flavors along with the fleshy apricot character of Viognier. A great combo of honey, spice and fruit. Dry as could be. Yum!

Upside "Free Rein" Central Coast Chardonay/Pinot Gris 2013

Normal retail is around $18-19. We have lowest price in the country on this rare white wine from Andrew Vingiello!
90 Wine Advocate
(10/2014) "A serious value that's made from equal parts Chardonnay and Pinot Gris, the 2013 Upside Free Rein (which is made by Andrew Vingiello of AP Vin) has pretty apple, citrus blossom and salty minerality to go with a medium-bodied, clean, crisp and decidedly delicious style on the palate. All co-fermented, with no malolactic fermentation, and aged on lees for five months in stainless steel, it's a no brainier purchase that will be a perfect meal starter over the coming year or so."
