Day Wines "Queen D" Applegate Valley White Blend 2015

90 Our Score
(1/2017) This is wine maker Brianne Day's first ever white wine! We are as excited about this release as she is. It is a Southern Rhone inspired blend of 25% each Roussanne and Grenache Blanc, and 50% Marsanne. The grapes come from Mae's Vineyard in the Applegate Valley, the same site where she sources for her incredible "Hock & Deuce" bottling. The wine is rich and very textural, as one might expect from this type of blend. What differentiate it however, are its high and very tangy acidity, and a distinct savory streak that keeps it lithe and very drinkable. There is a bit of "funk" and a touch of reduction, but that blows off fairly quickly. A great first foray into making white wines!

Minimus "SM2" Applegate Valley White Blend 2015

90 Our Score
(10/2016) This is winemaker Chad Stock's second incarnation of his "SM2" bottling. For this go around, the Sauvignon Blanc is co-fermented with a bit of Viognier and then aged for 10 months in Acacia barrels. This unusual blend, coupled with the aging process, perfectly melts all these components into a beautifully seamless wine with great texture, explosive aromatics and plenty of nervy acidiy. A unique wine that is equally thought provoking as it is delicious!

Mullineux "Old Vine" Swartland White 2014

Primarily Chenin Blanc, with Clairette, Viognier and Semillon, this stuff is delicious!

(11/2015) "The 2014 Old Vine White is just a peach of a wine. It is fairly innocuous at first, saunters around for bit, minding its own business. Perhaps your attention is lowered. Then it evolves these wonderful aromas of almond, beeswax and just a hint of creme brulée. The palate is very well balanced with fine acidity, perhaps not quite as complex as the nose at full flight, but it delivers impressive, almost disarming persistence on the ginger-tinged finish. You will polish off a bottle quicker than you wish."

Day Wines Mamacita Pet Nat Malvasia 2016

90 Our Score
(4/2017) The 2016 rendition of "Mamacita" is a blend of 80% Malvasia and 20% Muscat. This bright and playful Pet Nat has become a Vin Chicago favorite over the past couple vintages. The addition of Muscat in this bottling creates even more intense aromatics than prior renderings. The palate is bright and energetic with notes of lemon and grapefruit zest, tangerine peel and ting (a Caribbean grapefruit soda). This is meant to be drunk out in the sunshine with a big plate of charcuterie.

Terroir al Limit "Historic" Priorat Blanc 2015

91 Wine Advocate
(10/2016) "The new white 2015 Terroir Históric is a blend of 75% Garnacha Blanca and 25 % Macabeo from organically-farmed vineyards across different villages of Priorat, mostly on llicorella slate soils. It fermented with indigenous yeasts after a direct pressing of the bunches and matured in cement tanks for six months. The wine is fermented with whole clusters, so it's a bit of an "orange" character, with structure and tannin, much more serious, showing the naked character of Garnacha Blanca, which to me dominates over the Macabeo (known as Viura in Rioja). The blend represents approximately the percentages found of the two white grapes in Priorat. The wine really represents Priorat. And I love these classical labels... There are 6,000 bottles produced."

Les Tetes "Les Parcelles Tete Nat" Petillant Naturel Vin de France 2015

90 Our Score
(3/2017) This joyful bottling of Sparkling "Pet Nat" from the Loire is a blend of Chenin Blanc and Chardonnay. There was zero dosage used, and the PSI's during bottling were significantly lower than is the norm for many Pétillant Naturels. The end result is a supremely delicate mousse and finely delineated bubbles that add an air of elegance to a wine that is more known for quaffing. There are plenty of ripe orchard fruits to pair with the wide array of wild white flowers. This is one of the more refined examples of this style to be found anywhere.

Mestres "Coquet" Gran Reserva Brut Nature Cava 2009

92 Our Score
(8/2015) Wow! What a great bottle of bubbly! The Cava house of Mestres is based in the village of Sant Sadurní d'Anoia, right in the heart of the finest area for Cava in Penedès. This bone-dry sparkler spent 40 months on its lees. (Most Champagne spends only 15 months!) The blend is a traditional 40% Xarello, 30% Macabeo and 30% Parellada, some of which is aged in old chestnut barrels. With a wonderfully rich texture, precise acidity and flavors of honeyed, nutty orchard fruit, this serious bubbly could easily be mistaken for a $40 Champagne!

Day Wines "Vin de Days Blanc" Willamette Valley White Blend 2016

90 Our Score
(3/2017) The newly release "Vin de Days Blanc" is an Alsatian inspired field blend of 42% Pinot Blanc, 16% Pinot Gris, 16% Riesling, 14% Muller Thurgau and 11% Muscat. This enticing blend was sourced from a number of organically and biodynamically farmed vineyards throughout the Willamette. The texture is supple and round, gently coating the palate only to be energized by the zesty acidity, creating a wine of great balance and versatility. The aromatics are reminiscent of springtime, and indeed those are the types of food that this would pair wonderfully with, such a fresh salads and roasted chicken.

La Boutanche Pet Nat 2016

89 Our Score
(5/2017) The Bulldog is back! And with a brand new bottling! This is the first ever "Pet Nat" in the Boutanche line and it certainly is worth the wait. Sauvignon Blanc and Chardonnay from the Loire Valley are blended to create this delightfully playful and seriously thirst quenching dry sparkling wine. There is a touch of green cider to go along with the zesty lemon soda component, with feisty acidity dragging you back for another big slurp. When it comes to daily drinking sparkling wine, this one is hard to pass up.
