"Black Slate" Porrera Priorat 2016
94/100 - Jeb Dunnuck (4/3/2019) "The 2016 Black Slate Porrera comes from a project of importer Eric Solomon focusing on the specific villages in the Priorat. The 2016 is 60% Grenache and 40% Carignan that was mostly destemmed and spent a full year in used barrels. Thrilling blue fruits, tar, rose petals, and a smoky, marine, iodine-like character all emerge from this full-bodied effort that opens up nicely with time in the glass. Tasting like it cost three times the price, it picks up more minerality with time in the glass, has beautiful balance, and great purity of fruit. It would be hard to find a better value. Drink bottles over the coming 3-5 years." (Spain)

Deep garnet-purple colored, it opens with quite a serious, savory nose of roasted nuts, espresso and charcuterie with a core of cassis, warm blackberries and black forest cake plus a waft of pencil lead. The 2017 Terrasses is even better than the 2016 and ranks with the finest vintages I've tasted, matching the stunning 2010. The essence of kirsch liqueur, wild strawberries, and wildflowers flow to a full-bodied, plump, deep, beautifully layered and sexy wine that has medium to full body, ripe tannins, notable minerality, and a great finish. A blend of 60% Grenache and 40% Syrah that was all destemmed and brought up in concrete tanks, this is a raw, naked expression of this fabulous terroir located just south of Mount Ventoux. There are over 6,000 cases brought into the U.S., so it should be relatively easy to find, and it has the capability to keep for 7-8 years. Maturity: 2019 - 2026." (France)

Salty melon and screaming floral flavors are rounded out with bright citrus notes and a stony, mineral-driven finish. Full of character. "EQ" Casablanca Valley Sauvignon Blanc 2019
93/100 - Wine Advocate (2/28/2020) "Matetic's Sauvignon Blanc has a great quality/price ratio, and even the top-of-the-range 2019 EQ Coastal Sauvignon Blanc sells for under $20. They want a Sauvignon for the table, one that combines freshness and volume. They fermented part of it in used barrels and concrete, and it matured with the lees for four months in barrique and concrete eggs. This is more restrained-not as aromatic, less herbal-but the palate is terribly juicy and mineral, focused and makes you salivate. It should work wonders with modern Peruvian gastronomy. Sonoma County Chardonnay 2018
90+/100 - Our Score (12/2019) Valravn is an exciting new label from the gang that brought us the Banshee wines. This Chardonnay is sourced from two cool climate Sonoma vineyards. It went through full malolactic in barrel and was raised in 100% French oak, 25% of which was new. That said, this vanilla-laden Chardonnay is extremely fresh and lifted, showing bright citrus and orchard fruits with an underlying theme of chalky white rocks. And, what a price! If this is the new style of California Chardonnay, we are all in! (California)

There is no oak to speak of on the palate. The medium-bodied wine shows its freshness in the mouth along with additional flavors of banana peel and pear slices across the mid-palate. It's a beautiful wine that shows precision, mineral tension and fresh fruit flavors, ending with a lingering finish that delivers pleasure to the drinker. This wine is delicious and is also a great value. Bravo! Drink Date 2020 - 2029." (South Africa)

90+/100 - Our Score (5/2020) This brand new arrival from the premium Bandol region of Provence salty watermelons and apricots scattered across sun-baked stones. Warm-hearted, plump and generous. This combination of 55% Mouvedre, 35% Grenache, 10% Cinsault combines familiar Provencal Rose characteristics with the plumpness of higher-level Bandol bottlings for an amazing price. Has great richness and the acidity here is not as high as in many Rose, substantive. (France)

(11/2019) Supple and juicy, this sparkling Chenin Blanc from Damien Pinon is full of plush red apple, white peach and pear supplemented by notes of jasmine and honeycomb. Well-balanced between fruit and minerality with a slight tip toward fruitiness that makes for an easy-drinking and versatile sparkler. A smart case-buy for all-purpose drinking!

This sorcerer of Châteauneuf has crafted his latest masterpiece using tiny parcels of Grenache sourced from the 2010, 2012, 2015, 2016 and 2017 vintages.  While a multi-vintage wine that incorporates fruit from throughout the southern Rhône region is pretty much unheard of, nothing is outside the boundaries for this visionary winemaker, especially for his "Arcane" series of experimental wines.


Today, thanks to our relationship with Xavier, we are the first on the planet to offer his voluptuous "Arcane - Le Fou" red for sale. This full-throttle, remarkably polished wine has earned 96 Points from Jeb Dunnuck. By making a large commitment and offering it on a pre-arrival basis, we are able to let this gem fly for just $19.99. Totally crazy!

Xavier Vignon "Arcane - Le Fou"Vin de France, France~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~A "powerful yet seamless" 96-Point Rhône red for $19.99? Wow, wow, wow! From the moment we read the review for this wine, we knew we wanted to offer it. When we learned the price, our jaws hit the floor! Xavier is one of the top consulting winemakers in Châteauneuf-du-Pape and the southern Rhône. Through relationships with his clients, he is able to identify and secure small parcels of exceptional fruit, often in partial trade for his services. He uses this fruit to bottle wine under his own label, saving the most interesting and experimental wines for his "Arcane" series. His "Arcane - Le Fou" contains 15 variations of Grenache from five vintages and ten subregions of the southern Rhône, along with small amounts of Syrah, Mourvedre and Caladoc. It is a blockbuster wine!"The NV Vin de France Arcane Le Fou is another unique wine from this incredible winemaker. This cuvée focuses on different clones of Grenache as well as just about every permitted variety out there (although it's 85% Grenache). It has a big, sweet nose of blueberries, black cherries, lavender, and peppery incense as well as a full-bodied, layered, powerful yet seamless style on the palate. This wine comes from one of his famous clients, and the story is simply extraordinary.   The longtime winemaker of this estate, grandfather of the current proprietors, passed away shortly after making the 1972 vintage. His sons were so respectful of this final wine made by their father that they could not get themselves to put it into bottle. The wine was left in concrete tank. For over 45 years it sat, untouched.  The sons have now all retired and the grandchildren are in charge. They are uncertain as to what to do with the estate and have decided to sell off some of the old cuvées. They allowed Xavier to taste the 1972. He bought the entire tank. Xavier bottled the wine just a few weeks ago. So far, no one outside the winery has tasted it. Xavier says it is extraordinary and we can't wait to try it for ourselves. This is a test The label shown on the bottle at right is a mockup. Xavier is still finalizing the packaging. As with the "Arcane - Le Fou" we are the first to offer this wine for sale.
