2023 Paul Hobbs “Crossbarn” Chardonnay
Sonoma Coast, California
~~~~~~~~~~~
Paul Hobbs has been on an absolute tear lately, and his latest release, the 2023 “Crossbarn” Chardonnay, keeps the streak of excellent form going strong!
So crisp and refreshing, the ripeness of this Chardonnay jumps out of the glass, with lime and apple flavors on display from the first whiff along with a delightful glimmer of floral notes. Effortlessly smooth, this is a delicious bottle of Chardonnay and an absolute miracle for our price!
"Bright yellow/green-hued, the 2023 Chardonnay Sonoma Coast is bottled under screwcap and is lifted and fresh with lime, white flowers, green apples, and lemon zest. It’s fantastic on the palate, with ripe acidity, a silky, stony texture, elegant ripeness, and a cleansing finish. A great value, it’s lovely now, but don’t feel hurried with this one. Drink 2024-2029."
2021 Paul Hobbs “Crossbarn” Pinot Noir
Sonoma Coast, California
~~~~~~~~~~~
This is a Pinot Noir that displays California POWER. Made entirely from estate-grown fruit, it offers oodles of strawberry and cherry flavors while also invoking the nostalgia of opening your grandma's kitchen cabinets. Is that Earl Grey tea? Perhaps nutmeg? A hint of vanilla? This Pinot has it all! Antonio Galloni absolute raves…
"The 2021 Pinot Noir (Sonoma Coast) is a huge overachiever. Bright, punchy and super-expressive, the 2021 offers up boisterous red/purplish fruit. Lavender, rose petal, spice and mint are all dialed up in this heady, explosive Pinot. Readers will have a very hard time finding a Pinot with this much quality for the money. All of the fruit is estate. I am not sure I have ever tasted a California Pinot this good for $40 a bottle. Drinking Window 2023 - 2029."

A FANTASTICALLY Delicious Cali Sparkler from Schramsberg!
2021 Schramsberg Blanc de Noirs Brut
North Coast, California
~~~~~~~~~~~
If you asked a group of wine lovers which American sparkling producer they consider to be the best, we’d be shocked if Schramsberg wasn't the most popular answer.
The story of Schramsberg is a unique one, and their wines seem to get better every time we revisit them. Bursting with bright citrus, apple, and brioche, their 2021 Blanc de Noir may be the most smile-inducing bottle of sparkling wine we've tasted all year.
Fantastically soft on the palate and extremely well balanced, it offers luscious fruit that makes it equally appealing to regular Champagne drinkers and the occasional imbiber. That's not easy to do!
"Exuberant and festive, with dynamic apple and cherry flavors accented by nectarine and strawberry blossoms, finishing on a sleek and lively note. Drink now."
- 93 Points, Wine Spectator (9/18/2024)
Wine Spectator quotes $46. As usual, we're a bit less.
