Burgundy and Beaujolais Beauties from a Passionate Pair of Vignerons!

Burgundy and Beaujolais Beauties from a Passionate Pair of Vignerons!

Today we take you to Burgundy and Beaujolais for a white and a red wine, each crafted by a talented vigneron whose passion and work ethic approaches the level of obsession!

We lead off with a white Burgundy from Yannick Paquet. Made using only wild yeasts, no enzymes, and little new oak, his 2022 Pouilly-Fuissé is authentic, pure and completely delicious.

Next is a quite lovely and pure expression of Gamay from the tiny, hand-tended vineyard of Anaïs Pertuizet, a dedicated young woman we had the opportunity to meet earlier this year. Her 2022 Beaujolais-Lantignié is delightful, giving as much red fruit and rocky mineral goodness as you’d find in a $30-$40 bottling from Morgon, yet costs SIGNIFICANTLY less.

Read on for the full stories then, as always, click on the Big Yellow Button to experience these wonderful small-batch beauties!

2022 Domaine des Granges Pouilly-Fuissé
Burgundy, France
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Yannick Paquet is obsessed with his vines. If you happen to visit his small winery and no one answers the door, check the fields. That’s where this guy spends ALL his time.
This, of course, is why his wines are as good as they are. It’s all about the grapes. Yannick’s limestone and clay soiled vineyards are located in the picturesque rolling hills of Burgundy's Pouilly-Fuissé zone, just west of the Sâone river.
Yannick raises his Pouilly-Fuissé primarily in tank and foudre, with just 10% of the Chardonnay juice seeing small new oak casks. In a successful vintage like 2022, this elevage works extremely well, as the mineral verve defines the core of what makes this plump and generous white so fantastically balanced.
Layered with expressive lemon, yellow pear, white peach, and river stone flavors along with chalk mineral accents and hints of fresh herbs and baking spice, this full-bodied white Burgundy gives sultry pleasure and Pouilly-Fuissé classicism.
We can’t say enough about this wine, a solid 92+ pointer to drink now and over the next 5 to 7 years. If you love Pouilly-Fuissé, or Meursault for that matter as this bottling reminded us of a $90 Meursault we tasted recently, then you are going to find lots to like here.
Median online retail is $38. Thanks to our unusually efficient supply chain, we're able to bring it to you today for quite a bit less!
- The Ultimate One Woman French Wine Project -
Hand-Crafted Beaujolais from Anais Pertuizet
2022 Domaine Pertuizet Beaujolais-Lantignié
Beaujolais, France
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Anaïs Pertuizet was in her early twenties when she established her domaine in the Beaujolais zone of Lantignié. Three years later, she is still a one woman operation, working with her horse and a tiny vineyard to craft a small quantity of beautifully pure Beaujolais.

It is crafted from a single, sloping site just behind her winery. The soil features the same blue rocks found in the famed Côte du Py vineyard of Morgon, just a few kilometers away. Doing everything by hand it is a project of passion that drives her to work long, hard, physical days. And, did we mention that her wine is super yummy?

Juicy, with incredible fruit purity and freshness, this wine is very gulpable, super delicious, and very distinctive, with sandy-clay and rocky mineral tones giving lively energy to the soft, grippy texture.

This is the kind of red we LOVE to drink in the late summer and early fall, with autumn soups, roast chicken and holiday fare. We are stoked to present this 91-point winner, and you can definitely expect to see more wines from this talented young vigneron in the future!
