2023 Neyers "304" Chardonnay
Sonoma County, California
~~~~~~~~~~~
For the "304" Chardonnay, Bruce allows the purity and vibrance of his fruit to shine through by using only stainless steel for vinification and aging. From the brilliant 2023 growing season, this new release is simply outstanding!
We began harvesting the Chardonnay from Paul Larson’s Carneros District vines on October 18, and it was one of the most bountiful and evenly-ripened crops from that vineyard in the almost 20 years that we’ve worked together. It’s difficult to contain my enthusiasm for all of the wines we made in 2023, but the crop for our Chablis-style 2023 Chardonnay ‘304’ simply could not have been better.”
- Bruce Neyers
Quite dense and rich in the mouth, it is expressive from the first taste. With air, it opens and evolves to reveal juicy tangerine, lemon and yellow pear fruit with hints of lees, biscuit, almond and light spice. It’s a generous wine that tastes like Sonoma while offering a level of tension and mineral subtlety that flashes hints of Burgundy.
And, we're not the only ones who love this stuff. Slated to be published in tomorrow's edition of Wine Spectator is this 92-point review...
“Intense and stylish, with a core of Meyer lemon, pear and dried pineapple that's generous, juicy and sleek. Details of brioche, lemon blossoms and crunchy sea salt minerality linger alongside a whiff of lemon verbena. Drink now. 5,928 cases made.”
94-Point Paso Robles Blowout
2021 McPrice Myers "Beautiful Earth"
Paso Robles, California
~~~~~~~~~~~
Complex, balanced and sexy as all get out, McPrice “Mac” Myers and his full-strength Paso Robles reds continue to fetch big numbers from the wine press.
Today we bring you Mac’s “Beautiful Earth,” a gorgeously powerful blend of Rhône grapes, led by Syrah and Grenache. Offering deep red berry fruit with hints of blue fruit, coffee, olive, smoke and a wild game quality, it is long and structured with chewiness and lift, and it is quite yummy. Awarding multiple 93- and 94-Point ratings, the critics are big fans too...
“Hearty aromas of roasted and charred fruit meet with caramel, baking spice and violet on the nose of this blend of 58% Syrah, 20% Grenache, 10% Mourvèdre, 6% Zinfandel, 3% Petite Sirah and 3% Graciano. Warm maple and brown-sugar flavors show on the palate, where that dark roasted-fruit flavor picks up cappuccino spice.”
- 94 Points, Wine Enthusiast (11/1/2023)
“Spirited and gutsy, with fruit and personality, offering multilayered blackberry, raspberry, licorice and espresso flavors that finish with a smoky meat accent. Syrah, Grenache, Mourvèdre, Zinfandel, Petite Sirah and Graciano. Drink now through 2031.”
- 93 Points, Wine Spectator (10/15/2023)
“The 2021 Red Beautiful Earth stains the glass with its inky dark red and purple hues. This is savory and seductive on the nose, with rich brown spice and grilled herbs accentuating briary wild berries. Silky and seamless on the palate, this impresses with its undeniable elegance and refinement with crisp mineral-laced black fruits and spice. This leaves the palate stained in blue and purple liquid florals and dusty tannins, with a bit of a bitter twang that punctures the experience quite nicely. The Red Beautiful Earth is a blend of 58% Syrah, 20% Grenache, 10% Mourvèdre, 6% Zinfandel, 3% Petite Sirah and 3% Graciano. Drinking Window: 2024 - 2031.”
