Evan Martin’s Incredible 96-Point Oregon Pinot!

Today we bring you Evan Martin's "incredibly long and structured" 2023 Bednarik Vineyard Pinot and his beautifully nuanced 2025 Cabernet Franc Rosé. Made from different grape varieties, they share a single vision:

"Of greatest importance is that a Martin Woods wine promotes the notions of quiet power, nuanced complexity, and ethereal beauty. Achieving these rare qualities requires great terroir, observant farming, precise harvest timing and meticulous care in the cellar."

2023 Martin Woods “Bednarik Vineyard” Pinot Noir
Tualatin Hills, Willamette Valley, Oregon
~~~~~~~~~~~
This absolute stunner of a Pinot Noir comes from a three acre plot in the Willamette Valley’s Bednarik Vineyard. The own-rooted vines here are rapidly approaching 40 years of age, and the cool climate allows the grapes to slowly achieve optimal ripeness.
From Evan’s deft hands, it perfectly expresses his ethos of “power, nuance, and beauty.” These gushing reviews from Decanter and Vinous describe the specialness...
“Fast becoming a house favourite, the Bednarik, from 1988, is own-rooted Pommard and Wadenswil, 2/3 to 1/3, planted on marine sedimentary soils. In 2023, this was picked a month later than any other Martin Woods Pinots. On the palate, this is concentrated fleshy red fruits, cinnamon, clove, and allspice aromatics push, says Evan Martin. A long, resonating tannin structure and a smoky clove note interplay wonderfully with the ripe, fleshy fruits. Round and rich, beautifully juicy with pomegranate and red strawberries. Drinking Window: 2025 - 2039.”
          - 96 Points, Decanter (5/13/2025)
“The 2023 Pinot Noir Bednarik Vineyard is darkly floral and brooding in the glass, as dried black cherries mingle with dusty rose, lifting nuances of pine and licorice. On the palate, cool-toned acidity and mineral-infused red and blue fruits create a soothingly round impression, while violet inner florals swirl over a collection of gripping tannins. Blood orange mingles with Earl Grey through the incredibly long and structured finish, as a resonance of inner florals lingers. Due to rain during harvest, Bednarik Vineyard was picked 130 days after flowering, following the crew’s removal of botrytis-affected berries. Quite a wine”
Plus His Ripe, Complex Rosé of Cab Franc!
2025 Martin Woods "Eola Springs Vineyard" Cabernet Franc Rosé
Willamette Valley, Oregon
~~~~~~~~~~~
With Rosé season in full swing, how could we not offer one of our favorite Rosés from one of our favorite winemakers?

Evan Martin was inspired to make this wine by the exquisite Cabernet Franc Rosés of the Loire Valley's Romain Guiberteau, whose wines are some of the most sought after in the Loire. Bottom line, Evan set an incredibly lofty goal for this wine and, in typical Evan Martin fashion, it more than delivers!

“The 2025 Rosé of Cabernet Franc is delicate in the glass, wafting up with nuances of white cherry and wild strawberry complicated by a whiff of split pine. Soothingly round and perfumed, it offers soft textures and cooling acidity that motivates its ripe orchard fruits. It finishes long, leaving a citrus inflection that keeps the mouth watering for more. Beautiful today, don't be afraid to lose a bottle or two in the cellar for the following season. Drinking Window: 2026 - 2029.”
          - 93 Points, Vinous - Eric Guido (6/2026)

This wonderful, multi-faceted Rosé works well on so many levels. Crushable? Check! Gastronomic? Check! Ageworthy? Check! It is an excellent wine to follow over the next 3 to 5 years. And, since it’s never too early to start thinking about the holidays, we’ve seen a massive trend in folks choosing Rosés for Thanksgiving. Striking a perfect balance of fruit and minerality, it will pair extraordinarily well with a huge variety of dishes!
