Matthew Fioretti Creates the Greatest Brunello We’ve Ever Scored. 97 Points on OUR Scale!
This micro-production Brunello di Montalcino marks the rebirth of a cult property with roots going back 572 years. It is a mind-melting wine that has left us speechless multiple times over the past year, only getting better since our initial 97-Point assessment.
The four hectare Cerbaiona property has been discussed in insider circles for decades. It is only since its takeover by winemaker Matthew Fioretti in 2015 that is has achieved such astonishing results.
Using tradition as his rudder rather than an anchor, he has crafted a harmonized, knee weakeningly pretty wine that melds unbridled power with layers of precision. We cannot recall ever rating a Tuscan wine more highly.
And, while our superlatives are flowing, Fioretti has also crafted a tremendous Rosso di Montalcino from the sultry 2022 harvest - likely to be the most dramatic and powerful Rosso di Montalcino you've ever encountered!
We bring both to you today for prices that beat every online listing. Check out the full stories below, then be quick to the Big Green Button to grab your shot at these rare wines.

2020 Cerbaiona Brunello di Montalcino
Tuscany, Italy
~~~~~~~~~~~
This gorgeous wine is the perfect encapsulation of modern Tuscany. Velvety, sophisticated and enchantingly layered, it offers style without pretense. The pure Sangiovese fruit unfurls beautifully in waves that must be tasted to be understood.
With an elevated structure, haunting flavors that seemingly go on forever, and a Chambolle-like allure, it earns a 97-point rating on our scale. There are only a handful of times over the past 20 years we've given a score so high.
The 2020 Cerbaiona left us speechless in multiple tastings, and every last drop was devoured. The only wines that could be mentioned in the same breath as this cost double. There is no "Riserva” bottling at Cerbaiona. THIS awe inspiring bottling is their top-shelf wine. We're not sure what else we can say. It is glorious!
2022 Cerbaiona Rosso di Montalcino
Tuscany, Italy
~~~~~~~~~~~
Inside this beautiful bottle resides the heart of a lion! Made from the same four-hectare hilltop estate, the 2022 Cerbaiona Rosso di Montalcino is also a wine of grandeur, benefitting from the holistic quality and stylistic revolution at the property.
This includes replanting using the traditional Alberello bush vine training method which had fallen out of favor in the region. Aged for less time than its big brother, in Slovenian tonneaux, it is the brawny Sangiovese fruit that impacts here.
A sumptuous red, it smolders with notes of burnished black cherry, singed fresh rosemary, dry-aged beef, thyme and violet. An elegant, light color in the glass belies the rather serious intensity here. A baby Brunello? Not really. This 93+ Point powerhouse will outperform many Brunello!
We can’t recall ever having a Rosso di Montalcino perform at this level. Looking online we find 15 listings with a median of $75. Today's price beats 'em all!
