==========

2025 Bodegas La Caña Albariño
Rías Baixas, Galicia, Spain
~~~~~~~~~~~
From the moment we pulled the cork on this beauty, it screamed summer. Flavors of punchy citrus fruit, tart apple, dried herbs and fresh ground coriander run intense and pure through the vibrant mineral-driven finish.
It's the texture and complexity here that gets our blood going, and that makes this wine such a favorite. The acidity is perfect, blending with a subtle bit of salty sea breeze to keep you coming back for sip after sip.
We are a strong 91+ points on our notoriously conservative rating scale. Also chiming in as fans, Wine Spectator and James Suckling write...
“Flavors of Honeycrisp apple, nectarine and passion fruit are on display in this vivid white, backed by racy acidity and a tangy streak of salinity. Hints of grated ginger, blood orange peel and pink peppercorn are a zesty thread on the finish. Drink now.”
          - 90 Points, Wine Spectator (5/4/2026)
“Brine with lime aromas as well as dried herbs. Medium- to full-bodied, fresh and incisive, with a touch of fruit and salinity. Nervy finish. Drink or hold.”
          - 92 Points, James Suckling (6/5/2026)
This Granite-Aged Albariño is a Totally Unique Experience!
2021 Pazo Torre Penelas ”Granito” Albariño
Rías Baixas, Galicia, Spain
~~~~~~~~~~~
Acidity. Structure. Power. Those are the hallmarks of an ageworthy white. While Albariño, such as today's 2025 La Cańa, can be so compelling in their youth, we tend not to appreciate just how well wines from this variety can age.

Grown in granite soils, fermented in granite egg-shaped vats, and aged on its lees for a serious 20 months, the 2021 "Granito" is an adventurous expression of the Albariño varietal from the famed Familia Torres.

The wine, as James Suckling says, is "not for the faint hearted." When you take your first taste, you'll immediately understand why! Sharing character of Verdejo and Sherry, this is something quite different that falls outside the norm. If you like to shake up your wine drinking explorations, this unique white is for you!

“The bright acidity that cuts through the palate makes this albarino not for the faint hearted. Subtle minerals and limes on the nose with a light saline touch. This is rather pure, stony and driven. An austere, food-friendly wine from Rias Baixas. Drink now.”
          - 92 Points, James Suckling (2/27/2024)

“Incredible purity in this Albariño fermented in granite vessels and aged for 12 months on the lees in stainless steel. Subtle creaminess and assertive acidity, underpinned by zesty lemon and white grapefruit. White orchard fruit at the core, crunchy and grippy. Very well defined yet a bit coiled - some cellaring potential here as it will unlikely unfurl in the next five years in bottle. Drinking Window: 2024 - 2030.”
          - 91 Points, Decanter (12/5/2024)
