What Critics Think
Wine Spectator : 95 Points
(2/28/2023) A dense and tightly structured red, this reveals cherry, strawberry, iron, tar and eucalyptus flavors. Beefy tannins uphold the finish, where the lasting impression is a beam of cherry. Well-proportioned, needing time to integrate. Best from 2025 through 2043. 650 cases made, 185 cases imported.
Decanter : 95 Points
(1/25/2022) The talented young Luca Giacosa is managing his top crus within Barbaresco admirably. The east to southeast exposure of Montefico, an enclave in the southernmost part of Ovello, shows the restraint of the latter while enjoying the better insulation. There is no garnet tinge in this extremely youthful glass, with darker fruits and blood orange vibrancy, a vinous character, spring flowers and then a large and powerful palate. The tannins are chewy and the acidity crisp, with great mid-palate extraction and an austere finish - although it will evolve. For the long haul. Drinking Window: 2022 - 2044.
