What We Think
Vin Chicago: 90+ Points
(8/2019) Named for the traditional clay vessel in which it is raised, Karasi is a tribute to the 6100 year-old history of winemaking in Armenia. The wine is produced from 100% Areni Noir, an indigenous varietal that has adapted to the high altitudes of the southern Caucasus. The fermentation occurs in concrete tanks followed by 12-months aging in amphorae. The resulting wine is hearty, yet elegant, layered with cocoa, dark plum and a touch bing cherry. Medium-bodied with brisk acidity and soft, smooth tannins, followed by a lingering finish with allspice and cracked black pepper, this wine will pair wonderfully with lamb and dried apricot Tagine.
