What Critics Think
Vinous - Joaquin Hidalgo : 92 Points
(8/2020) Made with co-fermented grapes from La Consulta, this blend of 40% Malbec, 19% Syrah, 15% Cabernet Sauvignon, 12% Tempranillo, 9% Cabernet Franc and 5% Merlot spends 12 months in used French barrels. The ripe, captivating and subtle aromatic profile offers black currant, mint and strawberry jam. Juicy on the palate, with gentle but muscular tannins and a voluminous, lightfooted feel given good profile by the freshness. A lovely, sun-kissed Bourdeaux blend. Drinking Window: 2020 - 2029.
James Suckling : 90 Points
(2/2/2020) Some arresting blackberries and damsons with fine, roasted spices, too. Fully loaded with firm tannin, which binds the fruit. Fresh tannins and finish. A blend of 40% malbec, 19% syrah, 15% cabernet sauvignon, 12% tempranillo, 9% cabernet franc and 5% merlot. Better after 2020.
Wine Advocate : 90 Points
(3/31/2021) The 2019 La Consulta Select has a Mediterranean profile of aromatic herbs and berries. It's a co-fermentation of 40% Malbec, 19% Syrah, 15% Cabernet Sauvignon, 12% Tempranillo, 9% Cabernet Franc and 5% Merlot. It has developed notes of esparto grass, and the palate feels integrated, with medium ripeness and body and some fine tannins, lacking a little in the middle. Drink Date: 2021 - 2024.
